    How can you call Thailand ‘home’ when you don’t have a long-term visa? You don’t even seem to know the difference between VOA and visa exempt.

    • @JamesWilliams-wo5wl
      @JamesWilliams-wo5wl 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Agree, the 3 visit rule is there to prevent a situation of foreigners calling Thailand home without getting through the hoops and obligations applied to other visas.
      Such as for example having to leave the country promptly (7 days?) when a marriage breaks down if on a marriage visa (that allowed having life in the country for many years).
      Recommend ThaiVisa forum web site for experienced & often sympathetic advice.

    Before you say you live in Thailand you should get an appropriate visa. The Thai authoriteis are trying to stop people like you. I've been living in Thailand 17 years and have to follow every immigration rule. There are no firm immigration laws in Thailand, visas and visa extensions are on the discretion of each immigrant officer, so don't mess with them.

    Yep, the problem that I have with Thailand, is that they change the laws, but do not even follow their own laws, and they are always ambiguous and confusing, and immigration even mess them up. I had a 60 day MULTI ENTRY VISA, and the immigration officer stamped it as “expired” incorrectly…. And when I asked for clarification from another immigration official, they said “bad luck”……

    • @EastboundandUp
      @EastboundandUp  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      damn, that sucks. According to immigration website and officers I have talked to, there is no said limit on the VOA per year, its up to the officer at that time. Thankfully, when I go back once a year now, they let me it, but there is a black mark on my name/passport and I get asked about it every time.."why were you deported?". I want to retire in SE Asia from the U.S., but Malaysia has crazy financial investment requirements and Thailand I will have to check in every 90 days for the rest of my life. Plus, this new tax law (regardless of the US/Thai treaty) may not work in my favor. I’ve decided on Cambodia for long term with 29 day stays in the other SE Asian countries. I was on a marriage visa with 90 day entries. Each 90 days I had to cross the border and re-enter for the next 90 days. I had multiple entry printed on the visa for this purpose. On one re-entry the officer looked up and said too many stamps. I said I need the stamps to enter, its multiple entry and I have to exit to return and get the stamp. I just waited knowing he was tired and made a mistake by saying this. Handed back my passport with no more said.

Malaysia is also good than Thailand as Malaysian’s can speak good English too. But i heard Philippines was colonized by Americans for 50 yrs and English is part of their school curriculum-from nursery to college English is their method of instruction. Even in the streets, restaurants, every thing in there read’s in English. That’s why they said Philippines is the 4th largest English speaking country in the whole world. My country Puerto Rico is way way behind those countries like U.K, USA, India & Philippines when it comes to speaking in English. We are travel bloggers who travelled around the world already and we really want to go back to the Philippines if not only for this pandemic. for sure there's no limitation for visa exempt when traveling by air.
    .
    but in your case, Immigration might consider you as a private interest person or illegal action in terms of work (without NON-B : work visa).
    and it depends on officer's consideration. even your intention is just for travelling.

      @@EastboundandUp Hahaha? What's so funny? You say, "I was flying back to Thailand, Phuket, where I live." If you want to *live* somewhere you need an appropriate visa. The visa exemption rule was brought in simply to allow tourists to visit Thailand for a few weeks with the minimum of hassle, but it has been badly abused. In the past thousands of foreigners lived in Thailand permanently by making a trip to the nearest border every 30 days. Minivan drivers doing so-called 'visa runs' made a good living. Technically, it wasn't illegal, but it exploited a loophole. Thai immigration was right to close the loophole so I don't really see what the problem is. If you want to live in Thailand go through the proper channel to get a visa like the rest of us.

    The same is happening to me right now. I've been locked into a departure gate lounge with 13 other people for 3 days now waiting for a flight to London.
    We can't leave as there's armed police sitting at the entrance. Lights are on 24/7 and aircon is absolutely freezing during the day and night. Impossible to get any sleep. No bedding or showers, but we have water and a toilet. Have to pay for our own food of we have cash. Not allowed to goto ATM to withdraw anymore though. Luckily I had 400thb with me from my trip here two years ago and a lovely couple gave me some food too. Can't wait to get out of here.

    I considered Thailand very seriously for retirement, but if they want to play stupid games like this, basically imprisoning someone for a day, sending them back with all the cost incurred to enforce a non existant rule (nothing written saying how many visas on arrival is too many), ill gladly spend my retirement money somewhere its more appreciated.
    This could have been handled much more professionally by the officials, like something as simple as a "Last visa on arrival" stamp. Instead, they treated him as a criminal, for basically nothing.

    I see there are a lot of comments already, but false information: there are immigration laws concerning the number of times coming in on Visa on Arrival. If you claim Thailand is your home, you would know this. You were just breaking the law hoping it would not catch up with you, because people that come on flights often get away with it. Good job on playing the victim. Those that do not know probably believe you.

      @michaelcota1122 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@darionwinters2542 Answered a couple times already, but I guess hyperlinks are blocked from posting. The Visa on Arrival is technically called the Visa Exemption Scheme. On the website of the Thai Embassy in London, it is clearly spelled out that re-entries are limited to 2x over land in a year or 3x by air over 6 months. It has been this way for sometime between 10-15 years when the Thai government tired of foreigners staying in Thailand without a proper visa. Since again, this site does not appear to allow hyperlinks, put the words ”Visa Exemption Thai Embassy London" in your search engine and it will be clearly spelled out.
