  • A video dedicated to laying the groundwork for a solid understanding of how to deploy fleets. This video goes through the normal thought process of how to deploy your fleet with the best information available. This will hopefully be the first in a series of videos dedicated to this vast topic.

Nice job. I’d be interested in a similar video, but from the perspective of 2nd player and how to play back, anticipating and reacting.

a point about squad placement you bring up around 2:45 and placing them out of the way of a ship so they arent overlapped when the floatilla moves speed 2 and turns; why does it matter? Compare the squad placement you suggested vs the squad placement on where an opponent might place them if they get overlapped. The overlapped squads still place further up (into the center of the map) when your opponent places the overlapped squadrons than where they were with your suggested placement further back that avoids overlap during ship movement. Turn 1, your squads are also very unlikely to be placed by your opponent in a way that will give them an alpha strike or really much if any advantage either. Placing your squads as far up as you'd like is beneficial because in the event you dont overlap anything due to your movement choice, you've got the squads up forward where you wanted them, if you do overlap, only a few will be moved back and still they will be more forward than if you placed them out of the way as per your suggestion.

you can do as you would like, but slower squadrons can be hampered by getting sat on and a Squall Quasar push could potentially isolate and alpha a key squad or 2. Not likely to happen, but I would be remiss if I did not mention that as a concern. I don't like giving my opponent the option to place my squads, the more ability I give them to interfere with my plans the more likely they will negatively effect my fleet.

Another great video Angry Ewok, really appreciate your insight.
I noticed in the recent May 4th tournament this year, you used your trusted Ackbar Mk2, 2xTRC90s, 2xGR75s and rogue/awing ball… but I also noticed the addition of a VCX… presumably so you can do token farming objectives?
I get the benefit of Intel sweep as it suits your fast moving fleet, but fire lanes is a lot more tricky… especially with Starhawks and onagers around that love knowing where you’re going to be….
Can you describe how you setup and handle this objective if it is picked by your opponent and if you’re up against a Starhawk or onager?
    Thanks again..

Most people cluster the token together when playing Fire Lanes, how ever I do not, I typically spread them out. The VCX does help a lot with Intel Sweep but is also very helpful in shifting the middle Fire Lanes token back and in the direction I fly. I deploy broadly to score the far flung token 1-2 times then use the VCX to reposition the most threatened token to where i can control it. Typically i get all 3 on rounds 1-2, then control 1-2 on rounds 4-6. Typically Fire Lanes ends up getting me about a 115 to 160 margin and forces the enemy to close with me fast in order to stop my points farm, which makes them fly into and pursue my Ackbar fleet, which is exactly what i want

@@squirrelman4000 thanks for the detailed answer.
I thought you would have a plan like that…
I was toying around with something similar myself…
Although initially I had another YT-2400 and no VCX, and had Asteroid Tactics as my yellow…
But I worry that it’ll be picked all the time with no points benefit… so was keen to see if fire lanes could work

I really like a lot of this, but some of it feels more applicable to smaller craft/rebel fleets (especially ones which don’t focus on overwhelming firepower) - often with those lists, I find personally that a much more aggressive deployment works best - would you agree?

How many of the those 5 piece star wars art pieces do you have?! It's a different one in every video! Also, where do I get some?
