Luigi's Mansion 3: Switch Tech Breakdown - A Playable CG Movie on Switch?

  • One of the best looking exclusives to hit Switch yet, Luigi's Mansion 3's visuals have a CG film-like quality. The push for world physics and dynamic shadows is a highlight here too, taking it far beyond what the first two games could achieve on GameCube and 3DS.

    Best Switch games are built with the hardware in mind. I dont mind the ports, but i'm very impressed when i see a good looking switch game built off the hardware, rather than ported to the hardware. Need to see more Western devs and even Japanese devs push the hardware more.

      they cant this game is similar in scale to a launch title 2001 system. it looks amazing but its scale frame rate and are almost 2 decades old. its higher detailed and resolution.. but its a slow paced side scrolling game that unfortunately cant hit 60 fps.. if the 5 year development of breath of the wild a siglle player only game who was at 900p and dipped to the mid 20s in fps in point enough

    • @DiePoente
      @DiePoente 4 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      @@simlife445 Holy shit, lol. What are you writing? Scale frame rate 2 decades old? 30 FPS games even exist on PS4 Pro. Sidescrolling game? Do you even know what a side scroller is? 2D Jump and run platformers like Super Mario U Deluxe are sidescrollers. How can you even compare Luigis Mansion 3 with a sidescroller? Yes, it's slowpaced because you can't make a styled game like this into a fast paced 60 FPS game. 30 FPS and a focus on the visuals are absolutely enough for a slower paced game like this.
      Breath of the Wild was a port from Wii U hardware. BOTW2 might run a lot better since it's developed with Switch hardware in mind. It will be 30 FPS again but maybe visuals, performance and resolution will be better.
      And why do you even complain so much about resolution and FPS dips? Even the PS4 had massive issues with exclusives games like Bloodborne. I still remember the release performance of it. 1-2 minutes loading times when you die and the FPS often tanked to sub 20 FPS. There are also games for PS4 and Xbox One that don't run natively at 1080p and often below it even though they are much much stronger than a tablet hardware as the Switch.

      kn At the end of the day, Luigi’s Mansion 3 isn’t demanding at all and the Switch is still severely underpowered. Its not the fault of third party game developers that they can’t get their games to run as well as Nintendo’s exclusives which are cartoony non-demanding games.

    • @ddnava96
      @ddnava96 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@instantstupor. I know what they said, but that's incorrect. This game is NOT using screen space reflections on the floor. It's creating real time reflections with only the important objects, like Luigi, ghosts and light sources. Sometimes one of those objects is BEHIND something else and you can't actually see them, but you can still see its reflection. At 1:49 there's a reflection of a lamp that is behind a wall and at 1:50 you can see the lamp once the camera has moved to the left. Also, reflections don't mysteriously cut off at the sides.
      Screen space reflections have those two limitations. If something is not on screen, it can't be reflected (that's why it's called SCREEN SPACE reflections) and it tends to cut off the reflections at the sides because the camera is usually slightly pointing downwards instead of completely horizontal

    • @ZackSNetwork
      @ZackSNetwork 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@retroboy-fh1ji No the Gamecube was definitely more powerful than the OG Xbox. Gamecube had faster ram and it had a 64bit custom CPU which meant it could push much more performance per clock and was alot more efficient. The Gamecube GPU could push alot more raw polygons and effects than the OG Xbox could. Gamecube was also better at effects and geometry as well. ATI was just better than Nvidia during that time. However the Xbox did have some advantages. It could hold much more data on its discs. It had component cable HD support, it was easier to develop for sense it was basically a PC. It also had superior shaders over the Gamecube. Raw power and efficiency wise the Gamecube was more powerful than the Xbox.

    I just want to mention that this game is NOT using screenspace reflections on the floor. It's creating those reflections with only the important objects, like Luigi, ghosts and light sources. Sometimes one of those objects is BEHIND something else and you can't actually see them, but you can still see its reflection. At 1:49 there's a reflection of a lamp that is behind a wall and at 1:50 you can see the lamp once the camera has moved to the left. Also, reflections don't mysteriously cut off at the sides
    Screenspace reflections have those two drawbacks. If something is not on screen, it can't be reflected and it tends to cut off at the sides because the camera is usually slightly pointing downwards instead of completely horizontal
