@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 I disagree I think LM1 has aged pretty well. Granted it's not perfect. It does have its flaws, like the gameplay can get pretty repetitive at times & the puzzles being stupidly easy, but other then that I still think it's a fun game that anyone can play & I still think LM1 has the best gameplay structure of the three Luigi's Mansion games. It doesn't have a mission based structure that ruins the pacing of the game like in Dark Moon nor does it have any few filler moments like in Luigi's Mansion 3. I still stand by on what I said about Dark Moon being the worst of the Luigi's Mansion games, even I still think it's a good game for what it is.
"the gameplay can get pretty repetitive at times" At times? The game goes like this. Go through a hallway, enter a doorway, solve a puzzle that isn't really a puzzle, suck the portrait ghost up, rinse and reppeat. The same goes for sucking up normal ghosts. There are a few decent puzzles and even several challenging portrait ghosts but this is incredibly rare. I don't mind repetitive gameplay if the mechanics themselves are good. Now I haven't played 3 yet but I have played a bit of 2 a while back and it made going back to the first game a little hard due to the mechanics feeling unrefined and lacking some needed polish. Catching a ghost on your torch light is inconsistent and sucking them up feels noticeably wonky. Also, considering that's all you really do in the game, the game starts getting really monotonous. "I still think LM1 has the best gameplay structure of the three Luigi's Mansion games." This is something I have to address. LM1 is arguably just as linear as the second game (nearly debatably). The only time you would ever want to explore is to get all the gold as well as all of the boos although you need 45 so you are forced to explore a bit. Aside from that, the structure is very linear to the point where it might as well be mission based. The second game had a mission structure for a reason, it was designed to be played in small doses since it's portable. Now like I said, I've only played a bit of 2 a while back so I can't really comment much on the pros and cons of the mission structure. But I really do not see the first game as this big open mansion you can explore aside from having to suck up the annoying as hell boos. There's also the lackluster boss fights which don't add much (and the third one is really badly designed) as well as the ridiculously short length which made me question why it took me so long to beat it as a kid. Final take on Luigi's Mansion 1. I like the game fine enough despite how critical I've been. It's a great introduction to scary games for children and so are the sequels. There's certainly a charm to the game but the gameplay issues prevent me from seeing what all the fuss is about. Very nostalgic game but I've seen better Nintendo games.
Me too. I just watched his Luigi's Mansion and Dark Moon videos last night and I was thinking "I wonder when he'll do a Luigi's Mansion 3 review." Lo and behold I woke up the next morning and there it was.
@Glacier yeah even mario loses the ability to perform some of his moves when he comes into contact with E.Gadd's inventions, some of the moves from mario 64 aren't present in mario sunshine due to F.L.U.D.D being too heavy

Luigi’s mansion 3 is like dark moon on steriods, minus the misson structure. The animations are amazing! The puzzles are amazing! The graphics are (in my opinion) the best graphics the switch yet! The gameplay is like a mix of 1 and 2, but a good mix! The game’s biggest flaw is it’s combat. It’s to... overpowered
@@koolaruni1988 not a good counter argument If the game gives you a pistol and a unlimited nuclear bomb with one would you be using? Saying "just dont use x" inst going to make it any better
How is it overpowered? The original is objectively just as easy if not for the really clunly flashlight mechanics, meaning sometimes it just doesn't work randomly
i almost agree with your opinion on Dark Moons soundtrack. However there are some really memorable pieces that sometimes just haunt me in the back of my mind. Examples being: -Gloomy manor theme -Eerie staircase -Trecherous mansion theme.
I thought the final boss was great, I didn't like the first Luigi's Mansion final boss BECAUSE it was Bowser. We already fight Bowser so much in the Mario series and they made King Boo as a new character specifically for Luigi's Mansion so seeing Bowser again felt kinda lazy to me, like they couldn't come up with anything so they were just like "eh just fight Bowser". I don't feel we need to have a twist final boss for the sake of it as long as the fight is good. Still this is a great video and everything else was spot on with how I felt about the game compared to the previous two.
@@millerkarageanes1562 yeah point still stands. Bowser simply wasn’t needed. Plus there, it was mostly the bowser suit that you fight, in Luigi’s mansion 2 and 3 you ACTUALLY fight king boo.
Luigi's Mansion - Critically better received than "Death Stranding". Wasn't sure if I was gonna call this the best Luigi's Mansion, but once I got to that piano boss fight, I was hooked.
Hey Nitro, something that I literally didn't realize until after I beat the game and played a bunch of scarescraper, if you're slamming a ghost, try only hitting A every half second or so, just after you slam them, instead of spamming the A button. You slam them a LOT faster and I feel the combat gets just a little more engaging. Great review btw, you explained exactly how I felt about Dark Moon and why I loved 3. I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did, as someone who beat the original over 30 times over the years.
I was so hyped for this game, I avoided just about any and all footage to keep it all fresh, and the game delivered more than I even expected. I was excited but wary after Dark Moon, but LM3 is the perfect marriage of the strengths of the two preceding games.
I haven't finished the video yet so I dunno if he'll comment on it, but the tune that plays when you suck up a ghost changes which floor you're on! I loved it! It was so charming!
A concept: what if instead of just King Boo, the final fight also involved Boolossus, and Boolossus' power depended on how many Boos were remaining in the hotel? It could be a Breath of the Wild thing where completing optional objectives can make the final fight easier.
Well, either that, or basically a combination of the two in a sense. Honestly, I figured they could try the muitiple building structure from 2 again, but with a more natural flow compared to the mission structure. And I figured that, wkgh that in mind, they could go with a sort of Silent Hill/Lovecraft type approach, where E Gadd invited Mario, Lugi and his friends to help renovate an abandoned town, only to realize that it was abandoned because it had some ancient evil locked away below, that King Boo was planning to release. And, after dealing with some supernatural anomalies, as well as potentially having Luigi's friends get their bodies hijacked by spirits, and therefore, you have to fight them similarly to Veran in Oracle of Ages, of hitting the ghost, without damaging the body, you get to where King Boo is, who releases the entity, only to realize his mistake, when the entity turns out to not be interested in any bargaining, and basically KOs King Boo, with the entity being the final boss, which after defeating, then leads to King Boo getting sucked up in like a cutscene or whatever, afterwards.
Bosses are an outdated concept and when I buy a game I'm owed a victory. I need to spend 60 bucks on a game and only get a title screen that says I win
A thing I love is how the entire main game after obtaining Gooigi... Is 2-player co-op. I haven't gotten anyone to play the game with me yet, but still, the fact that it's there makes me happy.
Aside from the game bring a little too bright, it's absolutely amazing what they've done here. I really love taking old mechanics and improving upon them, and introducing so many cool new ways to use them. This is the true sequel to the original Luigi's Mansion to me.
With the ability to slam the ghosts around, the combat kinda channels the spirit of Brock Samson. Seriously, you could play the track "Assclamp!" over footage of Luigi slamming the ghosts around, and it would be tight as hell.
The game looks great! And It's relaly nice that they actually had createive freedom for the boss ghosts, unlike the more recent Mario RPGs that got inexplicably hit with the "No Original Characters" mandate which resulted in pretty much very boss being "Giant version of an enemy" or something
Nintendo knows not to restrict Luigi’s Mansion. We don’t get these games often but they’re pretty popular when they release. This game proves that NLG cares about the criticism they receiver.
I grew up with dark moon and i love it to bits. I love just randomly replaying it. 3 i also love but for different reasons. For example the fact they put 8 player muktiplayer in deserves an award.
Who wants Luigi to work for the Ghostbusters? He can get the job no sweat. Seriously though, for someone who has never played any of these games before, I'm willing to give this series a shot soon. Your reviews across the trilogy are outstanding pieces of work and your reviewing style is consistent and very entertaining. Although saying that I've just remembered that I played the first Luigi's Mansion for 10 mins as a kid on one of those Gamecube Star machines in a hospital in my area. I remember just wondering around the mansion and Luigi humming to the music, it was wonderful Hopefully in the future we may even get a Luigi's Mansion 4, it sounds crazy I know buy you never know, only time will time. Keep it up dude.
i dont think the king boo final fight was as unsurprising for you as for me. i felt it made a pretty good conection with the previous boss fight and floor! through out the 15th floor you go through Helen Gravely´s penthouse looking through all the paintings and decoration and it paints a pretty clear picture that it snot that she just admires King Boo but that she kinda has deep feelings for him (she keeps king boo shaped pillows on her bed fer chrissake). and shes constantly infuriated by her staffs inability to stop Luigi because it means shes failing the one she so admires. Shes putting so much on the line, her hotel, her staff, her precious pet, all to get the admiration of her idol so he can see her the same way she sees him. but after conquering all she could throw at you and reaching the roof of so many dangers, we confront King Boo, where he shows what he thinks of all Gravely has done for him... and he really doesnt give a shit. Hes just annoyed that she coudlnt do the thing he wanted. like he never cared about her, just capturing Luigi and gang. He just doesnt care about her at all, just using her resources. he even goes as far as making the portrait gigantic in order to capture Luigi, eventually causing the entire hotel to collapse (you have to admit, that part of the fight was pretty cool). he would level the whole hotel to catch Luigi. King Boo is a fuggin jerk and im happy you catch him.
This is a really great video, one of my favorites of yours. You explained yourself really well and compared and contrasted the 3 games perfectly. You should be proud of this one!
This game helped me realize that Mario 64, Luigi's Mansion, Sunshine, Dark Moon, and Odyssey all take place in one specific continuity. The reason why Luigi isn't playable in those Mario titles is because, in this continuity, Luigi has none of Mario's moves. We see that clearly when Mario parkours up the building while Luigi watches hopelessly. That combined with the obvious stuff like Egadd's technology being in Sunshine, of course.
One thing I think Luigi's Mansion 3 took inspiration from outside of the Mario franchise were those 90s point-and-click adventure games, the puzzle sequence in the Movie Studio level really felt like a puzzle straight out of those kinds of games. I'm really glad a game with a bit of that DNA is doing really well commercially and critically, especially after being told they don't sell well. Then genre simply needed a new coat of paint and I think Luigi's Mansion 3 is an example of how that can work.
what they should have done is add an extra settings mode option to change the enviorment lighting so you can have a normal mode and a dark mode where everything is more dark and spooky so that everyone can get what they want and to also make the flashlight actually useful
@@ihatestairs9034 people don't seem to get that this game is more interested in making its own magic, over trying to recapture the magic of something from 20 year's ago That approach didn't work with Yoshi that's for sure
@@lonelywhale1548 I'd say I realize that its doing it's own thing. It's just I PERSONALLY want more of the original. I love when horror media doesn't feel like it's pulling it's punches despite being made for kids. (Billy and Mandy, Haunting Hour, Goosebumps, Invader Zim, Villanous, etc). So seeing the ghosts go from actually malicious and antagonistic in the first game, to....basically Minions in this game, for example, was quite the blow. But yeah, I agree lots of the original LM fans are getting way too strung out over a kids game. It's _frustrating_ after two sequels I still don't have a game to fill that spot in my heart that the first game did. But if other people are happy, and it's makin Nintendo money, that's cool. It's still better than fucking Dark Moon was. The only thing I WILL get strung out about for this game is.....yeah it's too bright. And there's already lights on? I thought the whole lore was that light scares ghosts away. So your flashlight surprises them to catch them? But in the lobby for instance, the flashlight is barely brighter than the ambient lighting?
@@SakoresDark Yeah the original had a special place in people hearts, and I'm fully ok with people liking the original the most. That game had a strange magic, that I don't think any Luigi mansion will every recapture. But when you get to the level of someone like the bit block, that's where I draw the line.
A little thing I love about the music section is that there is a player piano in his dressing room hinting that the ghost never even knew how to play lol
I loved the hearts! I really suck at getting through games so I really loved it!! Maybe if they had a difficulty system for different players it could have been for more advanced players.
So my wife really struggled on the boss fights and she really appreciated the extra hearts they gave her. It felt like a second chance to learn the boss attacks and she kept saying how grateful she was that they weren’t immediately failing her
To me, what made the original Luigi's Mansion click was that it had a sinister undertone. It was dark, literally and figuratively. The mansion looked like a stylized version of the Spencer Mansion from Resident Evil. The music was low-key, heavy on bass, and sounded haunting. It was also sparse; when there wasn't music, it was silent with only Luigi's whistling or humming serving as music. Also, no music when using the Game Boy Horror. When the lights were off in one of the rooms in the first game, it was almost pitch-black. The ghosts weren't just over-active cornballs; they were out to get him. The reveal that Mario was trapped inside that painting was actually kind of disturbing. You could play it in the dark with the lights out and actually get scared. The original Luigi's Mansion was slightly more grim than goofy. The subsequent games were more like "Haunted Mansion" rides.
I've always loved your game reviews. Very detailed, full, and, enjoyable without being repetitive! Can't wait to play this game with my friend at his house.

At times?
"I still think LM1 has the best gameplay structure of the three Luigi's Mansion games."
This is something I have to address.
I literally just finished watching your Luigi's Mansion review. 10/10 timing.
Dude. The video got uploaded 3 minutes ago..
Wait nvm you meant the original luigi's mansion
Bruh moment
Me too. I just watched his Luigi's Mansion and Dark Moon videos last night and I was thinking "I wonder when he'll do a Luigi's Mansion 3 review." Lo and behold I woke up the next morning and there it was.
Luigi is scared so he's feeling weak in the legs. That's why he gotta use his stuff to jump.
DragoonBoom oh I thought the vacuum was heavy so Luigi couldn’t jump.
Glacier probably both.
@Glacier yeah even mario loses the ability to perform some of his moves when he comes into contact with E.Gadd's inventions, some of the moves from mario 64 aren't present in mario sunshine due to F.L.U.D.D being too heavy
"When there's something strange , in the neighborhood , who you gonna call, Luigi "
If the Mario movie is as well animated then I'll be happy even if the story is terrible!
It's Illumination, it won't
@@ddraven3180 It'll be a nightmare.
I can't wait.
I'd rather it be done by Next Level, not Illumination, they are a bunch of cheapskates and don't actually care about personality. Next Level does though.
And then it wasn’t
Animation-wise
Everytime i heard "Next Level Games", i think inmediatly of that Daisy animation on TH-cam

The one where daisy touches her fingers on her butt and it starts smoking?
Stratilex what?
Pablo Salgado it’s on youtube. It’s a cutscene in Mario strikers charged I believe
There’s actually a brightness slider that actually dims the in game lighting so don’t worry to much
Weak Sauce7 it doesn’t look too good though
Stratilex I don’t get it
Weak Sauce7 ? The brightness slider doesn’t comepletely solve the issue
Stratilex then Change the TVs brightness setting along with the games brightness slider, trust me, I did this and when there are no lights anywhere it’s near Pitch-black, I couldn’t see shit, and even if there are lights in the room, the flashlight will still serve a major part.
Not even gonna lie. This is definitely my favorite Luigi’s Mansion game.
My favorite part was the fact that Polterpup is with you throughout the whole game. He even saves Luigi's life three times!
My headcanon for why luigi needs the poltergust to jump for him is just that it's really heavy
Mario booking it in the end game also shows that it's freaking heavy
He jumped muitple times in the game.
@@aaronjones6299 but those moments were usually the ones with comedic body language ie: jumpin from fear
Those are just staples of cartoons aesthetics and don't have anh place in discussions about...the actual physics

i'm so glad they love what they do

I'd describe luigis mansion 2 in one phrase: "I was born to be wild, but the cage was too small"
The cutscene where Luigi rescues Mario made my heart explode
That scene is the purest thing in the mario universe
By the way, there’s a secret game over in the beginning of the game during the king boo chase. If you get hit by King Boo’s tongue, you get trapped in a portrait where king boo laughs. It’s pretty much the same game over screen as the normal lm3 one. This is a great review! Super detailed! This is why you’re one of my favorites, James!
Can we all appreciate Polterpup for being the best doggo and staying & helping Luigi basically through the whole game?
Luigi’s mansion 3 is like dark moon on steriods, minus the misson structure. The animations are amazing! The puzzles are amazing! The graphics are (in my opinion) the best graphics the switch yet! The gameplay is like a mix of 1 and 2, but a good mix! The game’s biggest flaw is it’s combat. It’s to... overpowered
Videogamer0615 The real agent 3 don’t use the slam then.
@@koolaruni1988 not a good counter argument
If the game gives you a pistol and a unlimited nuclear bomb with one would you be using?
Saying "just dont use x" inst going to make it any better
How is it overpowered? The original is objectively just as easy if not for the really clunly flashlight mechanics, meaning sometimes it just doesn't work randomly
i almost agree with your opinion on Dark Moons soundtrack. However there are some really memorable pieces that sometimes just haunt me in the back of my mind.
Examples being:
-Gloomy manor theme
-Eerie staircase
-Trecherous mansion theme.
Luigi does hum the music if you idle in an elevator after using it.
I’m so glad you had to say something about Luigi Mansion 3 soundtrack, I think it’s a pretty good soundtrack
What the hell are you doing here and why did nobody reply but me
I completely agree plus I thought the fight was a wee bit challenging
You could not have said it better my friend.
@@weirdgamer3134 well that technically wasn’t Bowser just a suit that king boo was piloting
@@millerkarageanes1562 yeah point still stands. Bowser simply wasn’t needed. Plus there, it was mostly the bowser suit that you fight, in Luigi’s mansion 2 and 3 you ACTUALLY fight king boo.
I got all those Boos for nothing.
You get a flashlight.
You can barely even notice it.
15:12
The Gardner ghost looks like Terry Pratchett, you’re welcome Discworld fans.
I love the idea that E. Gadd and Fawful went to college together. I can picture E. Gadd giving him a swirlie, too.
Daaaamn.. I wasn't aware of how good this game looks! This sure gives you a good reminder of what the Switch is able to do. :O
I loved all the boss ghosts in this game. My favorites were Morty, Amadeus Wolfgeist, and the skeleton T-Rex
Frankly the idea of fawful coming back (or any character from the RPG series) would bring untold amounts of joy to my heart.
Bosses are an outdated concept and when I buy a game I'm owed a victory. I need to spend 60 bucks on a game and only get a title screen that says I win

You say that like the movie was any better after the fix
This is one of those rare games where I never want to skip _any_ of the cutscenes.
I rewatched your first two Luigis mansion reviews just to be ready for this one!
Aside from the game bring a little too bright, it's absolutely amazing what they've done here. I really love taking old mechanics and improving upon them, and introducing so many cool new ways to use them. This is the true sequel to the original Luigi's Mansion to me.
Uh oh. Nitro said the forbidden no-no word: H E el el!
i require: *C L O U T*
This is the best sequel to hotel mario

Seriously though, for someone who has never played any of these games before, I'm willing to give this series a shot soon. Your reviews across the trilogy are outstanding pieces of work and your reviewing style is consistent and very entertaining.
Although saying that I've just remembered that I played the first Luigi's Mansion for 10 mins as a kid on one of those Gamecube Star machines in a hospital in my area. I remember just wondering around the mansion and Luigi humming to the music, it was wonderful
Hopefully in the future we may even get a Luigi's Mansion 4, it sounds crazy I know buy you never know, only time will time.
I didn't even notice that about Helen gravely's name through the entire game
This video was a pretty good balance between what you actually though, and what you are supposed to say.
what they should have done is add an extra settings mode option to change the enviorment lighting so you can have a normal mode and a dark mode where everything is more dark and spooky so that everyone can get what they want and to also make the flashlight actually useful
I wish the developers of Paper Mario Color Splash listened to fan feedback the same way Next Level games did.
Too bad alot of og fans are hating on this game for not being enough like the first
Lonely Whale eh it’s kinda valid but at least LM3 is a step in the right direction
@@ihatestairs9034 people don't seem to get that this game is more interested in making its own magic, over trying to recapture the magic of something from 20 year's ago
That approach didn't work with Yoshi that's for sure
Lonely Whale More like LM2’s magic but aight

12:24 Mario eats a lot of pizza? Is that a reference to the super Mario brother's super show where he also eat a lot of pizza?
22:46 - That’s Boolossus! Man, it’s nice to see ya, buddy!
Honestly, Luigi's Mansion 3 is in my opinion the best of the trilogy
They should make Luigi’s mansion dark moon remastered for the switch
