It’s a parenting issue, if you want your kids to spend less time on their phones then take their phones away. A former schoolmate of mind would only have her phone during school hours, her mother would take it away when she got home from work so she wasn’t up at night mindlessly scrolling.

I think its down to the parents if a child gets a phone, ones with heavy parental blocks etc, they can be very handy tools for the safety of a child,

If we can pass legislation to ban phones in cars then we can do the same elsewhere!

    Don't take the phones.
Just be able to block everything but phone calls.

Many schools did. My son’s secondary school had a no phones in lessons policy that wasn’t a problem. That was five years ago, but five years later when society’s addiction to smartphones has taken more of a stranglehold, neither the pupils nor the parents seem to be happy about banning them.
That’s all the proof you need to argue that smartphones aren’t good for our mental health and don’t belong in schools. The fact that we’re all becoming addicts of it is a warning that shouldn’t be ignored.
If schools themselves are using iPads as teaching aids I’d argue that poses a huge risk of de-skilling our teachers. If it goes ahead and pupils are expected to learn with the aid of iPads, then the schools have a responsibility to pay for every pupil to own the same I pads.

Over here in America, our under 16's need a phone, you know....just in case of a school shooting. It's a necessity. It may be the only chance you get to say goodbye to mum & dad.

I don't think all parents are instilling boundaries surrounding phones with their kids like you do. My parents to this day are against me having any sort of social media and actually, I think it's for the better because I've avoided the TikTok nonsense that I saw every day in high school

This would be impossible to enforce. We'd have to have police confiscating phones from teenagers at bus stops and fining parents. I'm not sure if society is willing to accept that idea, as it seems a bit draconian. Not to mention that it's also throwing the baby out with the bathwater, since phones are actually useful sometimes.

Marriage breaking up on long road trips because there are no smart phones, is she listening to herself. What did we do before smart phones, we went out, we talked, we......Read books😮, you remember we weren't entertained 24/7, and we were better off for it, and do we really want a digital society, not if you value your freedom.
