Most people with special needs, neurodiversty and mental health problems that are established early on do not get help they need. They struggle later in life and may have to claim benefits, then the government blaims these claiments. This country is a waste putting money in the wrong places.
I agree with you on this one. That's what's happened with me. I didn't get diagnosed properly until later life sadly. So I didn't get proper support when younger as an autistic person. Now, I'm suffering with bad depression, anxiety, chronic pain, poor finances. I've tried to get good support from the system but it isn't easy get the proper help out there, sadly.
Sadly, both adults and children with disabilities/special needs are still being let down. Even with labour now in, I doubt things will change. The system has never been great but the last decade or so, funding and resources has been cut drastically. But it is the everyday people are being let down, sadly. 😢
My son was let down massively. Only in year 10 they got worried and got someone in from an autism specialist school. He was amazing and the 2 times i had a meeting with him and school i felt relieved. However, it was too late to help my son. The specialist guy was already very busy. Too busy to help my son. He left school passing maths with level 4 and science with 55. He got level 3 in other subjects and a U in English. He started secondary school after completing tests in all the top high sets. Because he didnt do the work they eventully put him down to the bottom set after still doing no work in the other sets. He was diagnosed in year 1 and his primary school were just as helpless. He has an EHCP now and is at a special college. I feel bad because he is so much brighter and could achieve so much more. All his friends are neurotypical and stayed at 6th form, which he wanted to do. Is heartbreaking. Anyway, i am super proud of him. He is doing far better than i did. He is almost 18. When i was his age i was living in a homeless hostel. Love my boy so much ❤😍🥰😍🥰😍🥰😍🥰😍🥰😍🥰

As an autistic person with an autistic nursery age child. I am in the middle of this battle now. I refuse to allow my child to face the level of challenge i did due to zero support. I am finding SEND provisions (or lack thereof) at his age shocking and quite frankly unacceptable. It is fight of the system that drains the absolute life out of you. I truly fear for his future.
Overall there is a big societal issue, where people are expected to fit in an ongoing neuro-typical system, and this system needs to change. Schools/learning facilities are underfunded, there are not enough staff employed to support EHCP students, school classes are too large, teachers are meant to be planning classes, delivering classes to sometimes 30 students or more with a mixture of behaviour issues and different varieties of special needs; it seems obvious this is too much. Schools need classroom assistants alongside the teaching staff as a minimum. SEND staff are paid lower than cleaners and bar staff, so people can't survive themselves in these roles. We live in a 'blame' culture and there seems to be limited solution based thinking. I am glad I made the decision to not have children, because this society is full of problems with the ongoing and worsening issues in this country and world, and I am not sure I will see the tipping point in my life where drastic progression will be made.
Interestingly, council SEND officers are paid an average 45k a year - even though the job doesn’t require any qualifications relating to child development - the job spec is a lot more about knowing the legal side, which is obviously required - but it’s telling that a role denying and reducing care pays more than the SENCOs and TAs delivering it
Teachers do not receive sufficient training on SEND and furthermore, we cannot expect all teachers to do their job and be educational psychologists, occupational therapists, etc. There needs to be more teacher programmes that focus on SEND pupils only.
Theftwood school chemsdord had not enough qualified teachers in those days so it's unimaginable what it's like now !! Im 57 yeaes .. My diagnosis for dyslexia was done by its specialist from United States of America and its still a delay in kids left behind .. Schools needs to be acquit for disability children for their chairs to turn around it ooen up areas ..
what caused this was not the conservatives but labour during the 2000s labour got rid of so many special needs places and by the conservatives got back into power they had a huge backlog and unfortunatly they did nothing about that

He spent 3 years in a main stream school and it was a waste of time and then he went to a special needs school I am more then grateful. The government need to make it a priority and the education system because its a big mess and a let down to the children that need it the most.

It's helpful for high-profile parents to advocate for SEN and/or neurodiverse children as they're not a lost cause. Also, neurodiversity is hereditary and seems to be represented in more unusual and/or creative talents that can result in stellar careers. Just think of Simone Biles!!! 🏅
It's not that simple what do we do with the the children who fall in between - they can't cope in mainstream without the correct support but their needs are not seen as complex enough for specialist schools. Not all children with sen are of low ability.

If i was in charge of schools i would make sure that at least 4-6 min soecial care teachers were on payroll at that school every school highly trained and caring to deal with our kids of all extra unique so thats a start but its all about money which thete is plenty of kero giving ukraine a few quid when all our kids could get free school meals no kid would go without The Issue we have is not enough CARE to invest in our kids 👍

Rates of autism are rising exponentially, people say it’s because detection is better but detection got better because autism is becoming more common and more of an issue. I suspect the toxins in our food, air and water are to blame. I have a minimally verbal autistic 5 year old daughter and several of my old friends from school have non-verbal autistic children. Growing up I knew of no other kids like this and neither did my parents. There is definitely something going on to cause this.

Water here is cleaner than most countries like Africa etc. Autism you just born with it because if you getting a child in your late 30’s or older or smoking while pregnant and taking certain drugs while pregnant can increase risk of getting a disabled kid.

There are not enough places in special schools it's a joke. You apply for special and they force them into mainstream. Then mainstream exclude them
