woohooo i love this episode , Sandy loves his plants alright u could tell by the way he explaining every plants one by one ,such positive energy , this episode makes me happy
Summer you have really taken your channel to another level. I can't even watch other youtube channels talk about their plants, when they cannot pronounce the names and half of their plants are dead or dying. You are knowledgeable and provide expert advice..along with plants I have never seen and probably never will. Keep up the good work! Also, fyi my wife purchased your plant class, now I am waiting for her to teach me everything she learns from you~ Thank you
Hey Rick, that's a wonderful comment. Thank you so much for sharing, and so grateful for you to take the time to watch the channel. I really look forward to what your wife thinks of the class. Do have her fill out the survey at the end so I can get feedback to improve upon. And do hope she shares her knowledge!
@@summerrayneoakes Hey Summer, I can tell you that she did say that the first two parts were not what she expected. She said that it sounded like you were just reading from a book. I think that maybe she expected something a bit more informative or interactive. I will ask her about the rest of it...sorry if that is not positive feedback.
Rick Sawicki good to hear. The first 3 sections are more establishing a plant’s place in the world and how they actually work as organisms, so perhaps too heavy in history or biology for her; but it begins to get much more tactical after that. Let’s see what she thinks as it progresses! Always good to know feedback so it can improve over time.
I feel like I should have paid for this tour. Sandy is a wealth of knowledge and his passion for plants comes through the camera. Loved the nursery tour. Thank you so much. I could spend hours there and wish I could take all the plants home with me.
Dearest Summer, thank you so much for your passion for plants and for making all these videos about them. I truely appreciate them. I love plants, I treat them as my babies (hahaha) They have actually helped me find my way, I'm speaking of my social phobia. I used be afraid to talk to anyone, even someone on a shop or a waiter. But since I started collecting plants I started feeling a weird, warm sensation inside me. Then you came to my life and inspired me to get even more plants! I'd go to plant nurseries and spend an hour or two deciding which plants to buy and asking the person that takes care of them some questions or if they had the plant x and the plant y. Then I realized that the plant world that you've introduced me to has been helping me with my social phobia since 2017. You make me want to go out there and talk to plantkeepers, gardeners and ask for tips when normally I'd be too shy to. Thank you so much for the impact you and plants have in my life, and I mean what I said on my first comment, I love when your videos are big. The only downside is that I have to wait a week for them. But it's okay, I bingewatch when I can until the next thursday! Again, thank you so much for being you and for your wonderful content. You'll always be Her Majesty Queen of Plants to me. I respect you so much also for your environmental causes and for treating the Planet with so much care and love. You're an inspiration.
I truly admire his hospitality and humble about his knowledge. Sandy truly loves his nursery, and so confident about the origins of each plant. I’d love to come here to visit.
I enjoy seeing people who are knowledgeable about their plants. I think that knowing the plant names and growing needs are important for the viewer. Good episode.
She's a wonderful plant person I love watching her I have learned a lot from watching her about taking care of plants and learning different varieties and names of plants and cichlids you name it she knows about it .You go girl!
@@sandysoh1742 i think that's a common thread here...we all love plants and want to care for many varieties. you have so many plants that i would wish to have in my own home. and you make it look so easy, because, like Summer, you know how to best care for them. you inspire me.
@@treemerryweather Thank you for your kind words of praise. I've had my share of disappointments when plants die and all one can do is to figure out what went wrong and try, try again!
This was the BEST video you've ever made! So intriguing to see all of these foreign plants that we may never have available for us in North America. I was glued to the screen the whole episode! Please make more videos like these!
So great of Sandy to take time away from running his terrific nursery to share his knowledge and enthusiasm. So cool to get a taste of what he’s growing and some juicy culture details. ~ Hobbyists everywhere are often attracted to the exotic. This phenomenon is exemplified by the popularity of cactus, succulents and caudex plants in South East Asia, where these types of plants occur less frequently in nature. They also may offer a welcome challenge when trying to nurture them in a moist, rainy tropical climate lacking the seasonal variations of these species homes. ~ Sandy’s comment about the superior quality of Pilea p. when grown locally in Singapore as opposed to imported from Holland was interesting. Nowadays plants,as with so many commodities, even perishable ones, are shipped sometimes great distances before being marketed retail. With some species this doesn’t significantly effect the overall quality of the material. In many cases , especially with outdoor garden plants, there can be a very significant and noticeable difference in performance of locally grown vs. shipped in material. For the consumer this presents the question, do you want to purchase an acclimatized plant grown by a respected local nursery, (possibly at a premium price), or do you want to chance acclimating it yourself in your home or garden.
I've had many-a-plant perish probably because it wasn't acclimatized. I think this is going to be a bigger and bigger issue, particularly b/c houseplants ARE so popular now. Many growers have shared they can't keep their plants in stock, so they are sending them out less prepared for people's homes, which means more perishing of plants! A conundrum indeed. My hats off to Sandy, as you shared, because of the time he is taking to grow them in Sinagpore's climate.
I'm so glad to be reading what you've shared. I've had my share of imported plants that don't grow well in a different climate and also arrive in potting medias that aren't suitable for tropical Singapore. I've had my fair share of dead and dying plants and I've been experimenting with different medias to get it right and also propagating to ensure that they do well here.
Sandy is super passionate in what he does....well done on the feature. Tradescantia of some species are noxious weeds in some countries and regions (Hendrika)
