As a dealership tech. I hate this. Do you know how annoying it is doing warranty diag for chassis/suspension noise on a car that has aftermarket suspension components? It's extremely annoying, and a waste of time. Since the car made this noise from the get-go; the obvious idea would be to take it in to get remedied BEFORE modifying the suspension geometry. Even wheel spacers can be an issue since it changes the track width of the car. This would be the same thing if someone had a big turbo tuned b58 or whatever and came in for a warranty engine replacement because there is a known issue with the early oil pumps; I'm not going to have a warranty claim get denied and not get paid for replacing an engine, because the owner didn't at least put his car back to stock before going to the dealer.
Totally agree. I know it’s boring, but that’s why I leave my cars stock until the warranty expires. If you’re modding and your mods have anything related to the warranty claim, you know it’s going to be a fight. Once you start modding you should understand you’re essentially voiding your warranty with that component of the car. I think this is why BMW started locking the DME. People would tune, blow up stuff, and then go and try to do warranty claims. So now when you tune the car and blow your engine, there is no fight. Warranty automatically voided and they can see that “you” did it. Still sucks tho lol because now I have to jump through hoops to tune after my warranty has expired.
I think it's safe to assume any/all modifications will make a warranty related issue that much more difficult to have go your way, especially when it has any connection mechanically & (more importantly) diagnostically. If their (dealer) systems indicate any basis for a claim denial, I don't doubt the software system itself (previously ISTA+ in my case on F22) adds redundancies to aid that claim being denied. So many parenthesis here I know 😂
Even if u put it back to stock these bmws have black boxes basically anything plugged in will be picked up when they scan the key. 😒 I would LOVE TO THROW MY A DAHLER piggy bank tune n get 100 hp depressingly warranty will be voided n I ain’t voiding that shit lmao.
Hey, I enjoy your videos, but I figured I would comment on the red brake caliper option statement you made at 2:03. It says "M Compound" red brake calipers. The M compound portion would likely be the different brake material used i.e. potentially causing this issue. Also Pagid and Akebono make really good high quality products so its shocking to find they are causing vibrations when braking. Glad you got it resolved, but it sucks BMW isn't really stepping up and owning the issue.
I had a similar problem like this with my BMW dealership they made me take off all of my modifications (under warranty) just to even look at my car once I took off the aftermarket suspension, etc. they told me that nothing was wrong with my car so I practically wasted all my time and money just to solve the problem on my own after months of questions and research lol
yeah I got the 2023 BMW G87 but I have the blue calipers and I don’t have that issue thank God! I am wondering if I am wasting my money with the wheel warranty since I’m here in long island NY. Might just cancel that crap since I store the vehicle during winter months
If I were BMW and a customer came to the shop with a noise, vibration, and/or braking issue on a car with a modified suspension, wheels that barely fit into the fender, and WHEEL SPACERS on a 90k M of all things, I’d turn you away also. It’s like opening a can of worms…
Nah, customers can buy whatever they want for the car. And they would have to prove the parts caused the issue specifically in a warranty case, so it's simply a bad dealership/bad techs.
I've also had issues with BMW Australia not wanting to fix an issue that's listed as an issue on the puma system, one of my vehicles is a 2022 M135i xdrive, wastegate actuator rattle/ squeak, " normal operation" or a characteristic of the b48, absolute clowns these BMW techs bunch of bunnies and know FA. Hopefully your issue gets sorted, as the M2 I had would squeal like a pig, terrible as a daily.
I get it in some instances that have nothing to do with your mods but I totally understand why they don’t if it’s most likely related. If you put on different suspension, custom wheels and spacers and your car starts making noise, most likely you did that. The minute they touch it, they could become liable for things. A lot of mechanics will turn you down for stuff like that.
It honestly depends on the brand. VW absolute trash. They even give us modified owners a difficult time in replacing parts that have been recalled. But BMW never gave me a hard time on my modified E46 M3. Maybe that’s because the employees always loved seeing the car and would give me more “special” treatment. Not sure. But there weren’t ever any questions asked on that car.
Akebono usually comes as OEM on JDM cars, and PAGID is the OEM for german cars, they are both very good brands, most likely there was an issue with the specs akebono got from BMW for those specific pads, which is why the vibration happens, but who knows, could be akebono's fault as well.
Got the same issue after driving 4000km with the red M compound brakes. Going to the dealership next week and I‘m curious what they will do. My car is completely stock btw. Greetings from europe!
M2 fyeeee but next episode we gotta see you changing the calipers to black or a darker color to go with the yellow brakes. the yellow brakes goes well with the blue as well
Thanks for the info homie but gotta say i don’t blame BMW for not wanting to diagnose issues on a modded car under warranty….next time take it in before you start modding if you notice an issue!
Sounds like pad deposits. If the red calipers come with a different pad maybe that compound is more likely to put deposits on the rotors. It is weird though that when changed to different pads it eliminates the product immediately though, I could see it going away eventually as the deposits get evened out
Depending on how many pad deposits could take a while. Unless you switched to a track pad with a harder compound then it will accelerate the removal of deposits and even then can still take a minute. This happens a lot to people that take stock pads to the track. Funny enough its happened to me now even though I took track pads to the track but maybe did not bed em enough.
It *should* work, from looking at the screens. Are you talking original M2 or Comp/CS? I have a CS, the fender liners are identical to the Comp, but I'm near certain that the Competition has redesigned fender liners compared to the original M2, there's more ducting from the front bumper (same brake calipers and rotor size between Comp and CS, only difference being the carbon ceramic rotors, but the OG M2 is likely different cause it never got the 6 piston calipers, or the front bumper redesign with the extra air channels). Worst case, you could use the same screen, just trimmed down a bit (IF it's even necessary to trim them). What size are you running? I'm on standard offset on my Volk Wheels, but running 285/35 rear and 255/35 front, on 19x9.5 F and 19x10.5 R. So a bit wider than stock, no rubbing yet, though
when you say squeal, you mean they make that noise when you break? I have a brand new 2024 M2 stock and sometimes when I drive it squeals when I break, is that normal? off the lot with 21 miles
its the pads aggressive street bads tend to make noise on and off , try bedding them in again see if that makes the sound go away look up a bedding in process for general street pads
@@whathappenhereLA They will tell you it's normal and nothing can be done unfortunately. They blame it on being a characteristic of "performance brakes"
bmw needs to adopt the slide in brake pad setup on their caliper so you don't have to remove the caliper. saves decent amount of time when changing pads imo akebono does this well on nissan and infiniti products just my 5 cents i guess lol
