I'm 73 and had way too much sun exposure as a child, teen and young adult. Sunscreens weren't a thing until I hit my 30s. So, of course, sun damage, and even squamous cell carninoma on my face. I even smoked until 15 years ago. But people always comment on my complexion. Many years ago, I read a book by a dermatologist who recommended eating salmon every day for a glowing complexion. So I started eating a lot of salmon, as well as albacore tuna. (I've also been taking fish oil for decades.) But sustainability. And toxins. So sardines for the win! Sardines are low on the marine food chain and are less likely to contain toxins. They're also cheap. I dress them up with my favourite seasonings, hot sauce and lemon juice and they make for a healthy protein in salads, wraps and sandwiches. About two years ago, I started eating them at least three times a week. (I also eat anchovies.) As a person of Greek descent, the Mediterranean diet -- mostly plant and fish-based -- came naturally. I am persuaded that these practices have helped keep my skin glowing...and my arteries flowing.
Love to eat sardines, when I can't afford salmon, which is most of the time. Seems to help with skin health and reducing body pains for me, especially period pains.
Hi Dr. Dray! Can sardines are a stable in my house. I stock up whenever they are on sale. We eat them straight out from the can. They are easy to grab on the run. Whenever I don’t have time to make lunch, I just bring two cans. They are filling also. Good post Dr. Dray!

Google recipes for sardine haters! Try this sandwich or cracker spread: smash them in a bowl with a bit of mayonnaise, lemon juice (from a bottle is fine but if fresh add some grated lemon peel), lemon pepper, minced shallot or mild onion. Minced fresh herb if you have some.
I'm in my 60s and for years and years I've noticed a difference when I eat tuna. I don't otherwise like fish or seafood but love tuna and when my skin is dull or just not as nice as it could be, I turn to eating more tuna.
I like sardines they are pretty tasty 😊 but it's interesting nonetheless to hear and learn that this type of fish (and of course other types of oily fish) has beneficial compounds for the human body and especially the skin since we are all about skin here 😊❤. Almonds too especially in salads to incorporate that crunchy sensation is also good. Now I'm hungry 😅😅😅 Thanks Doctor Andrea ❤.

"Not only does hemp seed oil provide omega-3 and omega-6 in a perfect ratio, but also harder to find fatty acids like omega-7 and omega-9". My current understanding is that sardines in particular show some promise for inducing autophagy by observation of dolphins, but not yet humans.
my family has been eating sardines forever, we're asian, but i would not say that my mom or brothers have radiant skin. They are still aging as usual and it shows. So, maybe this is only based on how your body responds to the food.

This is great information from Dr Dray, but I don’t think that the market for sardines is going to explode. I agree with the OP that many people find them unpalatable due to the odor. Personally, I love them!
I see in the stores canned fish that is dipped in sunflower seed oil, which is the stupidest thing I`ve seen, completely negates and outcompetes the omega 3... (and also Salmon fried in seed oils....)
I just can’t with the sardines. I do purchase a large piece of fresh caught salmon once a month though (on a low income grocery budget) and take omega 3 fatty acids. ❤️

My ancestors, including me, before only I immigated to USA, we ate fish three 3 time a day. They have never gone to consult with a doctor if fish is "safe " because that was the only thing afordable to eat, (doctor was not not a thing in that vilage). I have never seen my grandpa go to a doctor once, and my family's skin is beautiful (skin products were not on our mind). Hey Dr. Dray! Years ago you suggested Procure Rosacare for oily skin and I’ve been using ever since and it’s been perfect! But I reordered another bottle last week and found that it now has a scent! I tried it out and my skin got pretty much immediately irritated :/ any suggestions for something similar?
Sardines are not a single species--it includes a variety of small oily fish. So my recommendation is to go buy one tin of every sardine in your grocery store and see what you like. There are some that could make me vomit and some which are delicious! Make sure you get then ones with skin (omega 3) and bones (calcium). My personal favorite is King Oscar, two layer. Here in Brazil I can't get King Oscar brand. The sardines here are caught in Norway and processed in Portugal. Okay, but not as good as King Oscar.
It does work. My dad has eaten sardines and liver weekly his whole life. He is over 70 but looks 50. I mean, it will give you gout but...great face lol

I'm in my early 30s and a year ago started to get cystic acne on my chin and jawline. I am trans so no monthly cycle, so I have no idea what happened. Anyway I stopped eating added sugar and grains, and have eaten sardines one to two times a week and my acne has improved. I'm still getting occasional acne, but it's not cystic and doesn't scar like the cysts. Just my two cents. I think the sardines have made a dramatic improvement to my mental health and focus, though.
You used to be a guy?
I don't care for sardines, but I eat them anyway strictly for the health benefits.
Live in London, I get canned ones, I love them! All started from Jennifer Myers videos for me :D I know the bones are good for the calcium but can only do fillets as I hate the textures of bones!
Thanks for the info. I think I will start incorporating both sardines and plant-based sources of omega 3s like flax and chia. I enjoy fish but reducing animal consumption is something I like to do to live more sustainably.
Greetings Dr Dray hope u r well n 🖐Hello Every1 n Happy Monday😀n what a Wonderful Vid…. thanks n This is Gonna b so Informative🔥👍n Continued Blessings to All💜…..

Sardines and a crusty baguette for breakfast is very French!
On ne mange pas de sardines au petit déjeuner en France.
@@Cath452 you may not but you do not represent all of France
@@Cath452Would this be more common in the South of France, or the more provincial regions ?Perhaps it would be more common outside of Paris? Je ne said pas. 🤷♀️. Although I did have a wonderful lunch at the Museé D’Orsay of Sardines & Tomatoes Tarte . It was delicious!
(I've also been taking fish oil for decades.)
But sustainability.
(I also eat anchovies.)
As a person of Greek descent, the Mediterranean diet -- mostly plant and fish-based -- came naturally.
I am persuaded that these practices have helped keep my skin glowing...and my arteries flowing.
Must be Perricone.
Dray!
I freeze my fish oil -saves you from those nasty fish burps! Also try eating sardines when i need a cheap/healthy snack the leftover oil in the tin is good base for salad dressings. This video is encouraging me to try more sardine recipes! its a super food really
tin fish files guy on YT does have clear skin 🤔

i'm eating sardines right now and your video popped up, this video came out only 12 hours ago!
When you said western diet I think saying American diet is more correct (like you said few mins later). Since western is a very diverse way of putting it
Assuming I could get over my aversion to the idea of sardines, how much and how often? My boys would benefit from the anti eczema and psoriasis properties and would probably like them. I don’t trust over on TikTok.
I might check with your doctor or your boys' doctor.
@@db-gb5xi this seems like one of those things a PCP would be like, whatever. Not really take seriously. Take a supplement. Which they can, but it’s never as effective as getting it from the source.
Thank you for thinking of us plant based folks 💕 🌱
Your skin gonna dry out
@@SmokeSouljahpost your face. Let’s see who looks younger ☺️
@@SmokeSouljah eating plant based doesn’t have to dry your skin out if you are getting enough water and the right plant fats like olive oil, avocados, nuts and seeds.

I’m plant based too but eat sardines
My daughter just sent this video to me. Yum my favorite thing to eat sardine salad like tuna, sardines pasta, or straight from the can they must be King Arthur in olive oil.
Thank you. I enjoyed this, and I do love sardines❤️
I don’t as I too am vegan, but my 4 cats share a little can as a treat once a week.
I don't eat meat but I do take all of the plant sources for omega 3's including algae oil.
Canned mackerel is a personal fave!!!
I started eating them years ago for the Omega3 and protein. Plus, I like the flavor. I dunno about improving skin.😊
My family and myself have subscribed to the Mediterranean Diet for the last year. My husband has lost 65bls, I have lost 50lbs and my son hast lost 30 lbs. This is one of the fish we have added to our diet. We consume a lot of olive oil and oily fish. We eat read meat only 2 times a month. I prefer salmon though. We eat vegetarian2-3 days a week.
My dog gets sardines packed in water every day!
I happen to eat a lot of sardines and my skin is glowy. 😊
Sounds fishy.,. Just kidding !

Always good to get your omega 3s, but be mindful of the cholesterol if you've been advised to reduce it.
I’m living proof that Sardines work!!!! I tried it twice and my skin improved significantly!!!
Yes, sardines are highly nutritious. They will help your skin just like eggs.
I got a bunch of omega 3 fish oil pills and a couple tins of sardines, I feel the difference in my brain, it feels good! I eat 1/2 tin, 1/2 avocado on rice cakes. Not hungry later!
Happy Monday Dr Dray….see you tomorrow x💙🤩🎃
I can’t handle sardines, just the smell, yuck! Boy, I wish I could eat them they sound very healthy! TFS! Have a great week!❤️
That’s how I was. I’ve hated them all my life. But I committed to eating one tin per week as a health supplement and after about 2 months I’ve started to like them.
@@Streamlined955 great for you!😊
I'm in my 60s and for years and years I've noticed a difference when I eat tuna.
I have to start eating them more often!!
Its just the omega fatty acids..which can be found in walnuts, flax, hemp, chia. 👍
I feed my dog a little sardines to supplement his diet. It’s good for his skin and coat.
Me too 😅
I love Trader Joe sardines. Their smoked flavor is my favorite.
The video was informative, thank you!
I bought sardines from Costco, a friend recommended me to get them there, but I am having a hard time eating them, I found out that I do not like them 😣
I consume sacha inchi oil and hemp seeds for my omega 3's. I'm not into abusing animals and besides seafood is the leading food source of mercury, PFAS, and microplastics.
I looooove sardines! I do think they're good for skin!
i don't think this is enough to convince me to eat sardines. i felt shocked when you said people enjoy eating them. but i might start taking krill oil again
I always stock up when they’re on sale at Costco! They’re my lunch 3x a week. I used to have to eat them in the garage because my Mr couldn’t handle the smell but I’ve acclimated him. 😅😂
I actually tried to make myself eat sardines and mackerel because I want the great benefits from them but I just couldn't. If I do eat them, I have to force it. 🥴
I eat sardines and other omega 3-rich foods. It makes my face itchy due to decreasing sebum whereas eating cow meat does the opposite. It also makes my scalp much less oily. My skin is clear when eating omega 3s, but the itching...
Have you been tested for fish allergies? My friend got itchy as a kid when her mom even cooked fish
Sardines are very good with capers!
Good morning Dr Dray ❤
Happy Monday!
I feed the plain ones to my dog for the fish oils. I guess the bones are cooked down and edible so good for calcium.
I like the Louisiana hot sauce ones 😋
How much sardines… how often… for optimal results? Thanks!
I think one serving (one can) three times a week is more than enough to get you Optimal Health benefits.
Dr Dray, can you make a video on retinal? What are your thoughts on the Medik8 Crystal Retinal serums?
Dr Dray has talked about retinal in videos. The Budget Dermatologist, Dr. San Ellis, Dr Jenny Liu have all reviewed and liked the Medik8.
@db-gb5xi thanks for sharing. Yes, she has talked about retinal in the past but that was a few years ago I believe. Also, her opinion on Medik8 Crystal Retinal would be highly appreciated 🙏
I believe you may be in Texas, but I was still surprised by no mention of hemp oil.
Sardines are an excellent food source. All round.
This is going to make one of my go to, affordable nutrient dense foods expensive now, I’m so broke there’s so little left why does this happen to everything
Maybe not, a lot of people won't get past the smell, lol.
I'd love to know your list!
This is great information from Dr Dray, but I don’t think that the market for sardines is going to explode. I agree with the OP that many people find them unpalatable due to the odor. Personally, I love them!
Good video Andrea!!!
This was really informative
I see in the stores canned fish that is dipped in sunflower seed oil, which is the stupidest thing I`ve seen, completely negates and outcompetes the omega 3... (and also Salmon fried in seed oils....)
I just can’t with the sardines. I do purchase a large piece of fresh caught salmon once a month though (on a low income grocery budget) and take omega 3 fatty acids. ❤️
I would love to hear what Dr Dray eats. Maybe sharing some recipes . I need some meatless meal ideas.
Dr Dray has sometimes shared what she eats in her weekend vlogs. If you're interested in vegan channels, Pick Up Limes is one. Some vegan chefs/authors include Christina Pirello (she also teaches) and the Jazzy Vegetarian (vegan). Ellie Krieger is a dietician/nutritionist who's not vegan but has meatless meal recipes.
Some other great channels on YT are Healthy Vegan Eating, The Whole Food Plant Based Cooking Show, and Berta Jay. Everything I have made from these channels has been delicious! All the hosts are very personable. I think Miss Berta is an angel in disguise. 😊Two new channels that I am exploring are Fit Green Life and Cooking for Peanuts. 😋
When I was there whenever I saw funerals, there were always and most of them were from the ages of 95 and up. Many of them lived to be over 100 years old. I still eat sardines and teach my children to eat sardines.
WholeFoods and some supermarkets have some wonderful sardines from Portugal.
Hey Dr. Dray! Years ago you suggested Procure Rosacare for oily skin and I’ve been using ever since and it’s been perfect! But I reordered another bottle last week and found that it now has a scent! I tried it out and my skin got pretty much immediately irritated :/ any suggestions for something similar?
Moringa powder is a very valuable source of these nutrients moreover they contain the highest amount of sulfurophane
I didn’t know that! Thank you . I am looking to incorporate more high sulforophane foods into my diet.
I just googled this yesterday… how did she know 😅
Sardines are not a single species--it includes a variety of small oily fish.
Thank you!!

Kids: You can OVER DO sardines. Purines. Moderation. Just FYI.
Re your vid on almonds for good skin- does it matter if they don't have the skin on? I've just been adding ground almonds to my cereal - I don't know if they will count!
i dont think that was clarified in the papers
I'm truthfully not going to do the while "activated" almonds routine, so I've just added flaked almonds to my nuts & seed wholegrain breakfast cereal repertoire, after my medical specialist's suggestion.
👱❤️
The people experiencing these benefits might be consuming fewer carbs because of the effect of the protein and fats on their appetite, and therefore producing less body/face oil.
The kids over on TikTok 😆
;)
Omegas of huge relevance. Our brain 🧠 alone is seventy percent fat and half of that is DHA!
I grew up being obsessed with sardines, and everyone thinking I was weird because of it😂 now these kids are out here chowing down on them like they’re nothing. No wonder my skin was so goddamn radiant lmao
How does fresh sardines looks like?
There are videos on fresh whole sardine prep. Jamie Oliver, for example, has a video.
