Internal Mic sounds way better than with the media mod

The internal mic on the Hero 9 Black is pretty good anyway without using the Media Mod, I actually got the Media Mod for Christmas and I’ve only used it once as I don’t think it’s that good
The wind reduction actually sounds noisier than without it. The external microphone is best. The video is quite good. Cheers

Totally agree. the mdeia mod only helps to connect a better mic via 3.5 - Other then than the original mic in the camera itself sounds much better than the mods mic... such a shame
Your GO Pro 9 videos have made me want to buy it. Would love a front display on a GoPro. Hopefully it’s on sale on prime day.

Great video very informative I have the GoPro Hero 9 and I'm considering getting the media mod after watching this video, to me the microphone wasn't that much better than the internal microphone on a GoPro but it does offer other conveniences like charging, add an external mic, and so forth, which is really cool! Thanks for a video that people can understand and make their decisions objectively.

@@RedskullPro I think so to, but it’s an downgrade if you are someone like me. I don’t want use an external microphone. For streaming I think the internal without Medea mod works perfectly. After my irl stream today people asked me what kind of microphone I use, my answer was symple, just used the hero 9.
Hello Redskull. I finally bought the media mod for my GoPro Hero 9 Black and I just watched this video review of the media mod. I noticed you talked about front mic and back mic, etc. But what if one plans to use a two mic set-up, where I have an old singer with a lav mic on, in front of the camera, and myself hooked up with a lav mic, but behind the camera? What is the best setting for a person with a mic in front of the camera and a person with a mic behind the camera, for a classic two-person but one off-camera interview set-up? Thank you.
Thank you i've just buy a gopro 9 and mediamode but my problem is that the external mic doesn't work. I'v try 3 lavalier no one recorded my voice. May be the mediamode has troubles? I was looking if some settings was needed but you said just plug it and work. Thanks again for the video
I came to the same conclusion, using a lav mic, and I’m using the Rose Wireless Go, makes the Media Mod really worth it, but it’s not cheap! Great review!

I have the Volta grip. I just added the media mod and now the Volta goes dead when not using in a few hours.
Disappointing... I find the GoPro internal mics sound better than the media mod microphones. That's not surprising that external microphone sounds great but the media mode is too expensive to buy it for using only with external mic. I need a mode that will only add 3.5 jack to my GoPro and will be cheap.
yeah...this is pretty much $80 spent to connect an external microphone, nothing else :)

Why does it look like the camera is moving around in your car shots? It's strange and disorienting, and would be a concern to note before purchasing.

Hello , why my gopro app not show up all the video on media , i make videos from Gopro 9? Even i have try many time connect Bluetooth and wifi for both , And even i had resect my Gopro 9 a few time , but media on App still not show up all my video ,Maybe i setting something wrong ? Sucks you need this for a 3.5mm jack... considering to upgrade to the 9 from my 7 but eh... what do you think?
The only difference you will notice is the slightly better stabilization and somewhat better battery life... so a bit hard to call it an upgrade... but you could claim the new camera for taxes :)
I think your $1000+ cell phone has the same limitation. What do you think about that?

@@RedskullPro You also get the stabilized linear mode in 4k. This was important for me since I don't like/need the fish-eye but I need the stabilization. But it was not possible to stabilize 4k linear footage. I always had to upscale 2.7k footag to 4k. And not to forget the horizon-levelling, it is awesome. Plus the front monitor and the better battery life I call it a real update. I just upgraded from the 7 this week.
I also bought the media mod because of the 3.5mm jack. Something like that was only possible with that stupid and bulky adapter for the 7. And to be honest even the media mod mics are not the best but they are way better than the built in ones. And in addition to all that the media mod brings 2 hot shoe adapters. Also not possible with the 7 without another housing.
But it's true, it's not the cheapest thing for functionality that could be built in mostly in the camera itself.

*I am warning everyone. If you wanna use media mod with your hero9 you need to update the firmware to V1.21 but it will loose you the support for 3.5mm external mic adapter which is so funny. It seems GoPro does not want anyone to use their own mic.*

There's a firmware update coming this month (November) to bring back compatibility with the old school mic adapter.
Can the media mod allow stereo recordings with a stereo mic or is it a single discrete channel split to the left and right? This is a big knock on the Osmo Action not being able to record in 2 discrete channels.

Thanks for the effort you put into this video! I noticed when you were testing the External Mic - when you looked down, the clarity of your voice increased dramatically. I think you had it too far away from your mouth, and/or that particular mic is very directional. Not sure from the comments whether GoPro has actually updated the software so that the old external mic adapter can be used......

I don't think there is any microphone adapter for the gopro 9... your only option is the media mod

When you turned off the Media Mod, did you remove the physical mod? Sounds like it was left on and the mics were covered up?
From your tests, I get the feeling that a cheap camera rig for the hot shoe attachments and with an external recorder and a lavalier mic would produce a much better audio for half the price. Sync in post is easily done and can be automated by softwares like Adobe audition's plugin for Premiere.
The good point is that the internal mic is very good apart for the wind noise issue. Windjammers for those pinhole mics are cheap, even the Rycote version.

Only if you plan on using an external microphone... otherwise it doesnt really make a difference

Hi Alex, my media mod is called the
Tascam DR-05, little more work in postprocessing but much better sound with the DR-05 internal or external microphones.
Hero 9 footage was horrible, your face was severely blown out, oversaturated colors and to much contrast. The foilage/trees look very unnatural on my 42" 4K monitor.
Yeah, I've always said that GoPros have very strange colors...

Great video! Thank You. Why can't GoPro use really good mics in their Media Mods? They would not work well for recording music. No bottom end, no high end. Extremely mid range heavy. It's a shame because the cameras are excellent.

If you intend to use the GoPro for vloging you definitely need the media mod. In fact, anytime audio is important you need to get the best audio possible. One more thing, position the external mic as close to your mouth as possible. Even an inch higher can make a dramatic difference in improving the quality of your voice.

Hey...that isn't available anymore... it's a couple of years old...also it's not a 4k screen...it can receive a 4k feed but it is actually a 1080p screen
