Plumbers are costly people. The material costs don't matter, but, their labour charges are astronomical. There is no proper basis to charge. The plumbers look at you and charge hefty sum.
You have to be a good intelligent contractor/civil engineer to negotiate with plumbers. The other point is that plumbers get discount of materials purchased from hardware dealers. 😅
Have done bacteriological test for water collected in the sump? Is it drinkable? You've commented that you've tested water coming from the filter but have you did it from the sump?
Big metro cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur..... are wasting billions of gallons fresh pure rain water every year ! We have to just catch it !
Interesting concept having Rain water harvesting, solar plant & composting for Roof top garden.. Interested to know the details of investment of 3 or 5 KVA Solar plant and Rain water harvesting systems.. Do you take up the work at Pune?

Nice..Maybe a light weight option using plastic tanks should also be considered...might be much cheaper and easier to implement for majority..

1. Each tank is about 150 ltrs in capacity.
2. If I use sand , I had to increase the size of filter .
