Anybody who's saying it sounds horrible is basing their opinion on bad information. This is an un-optimized, and the sound is obviously distorted by vibrations.
It's considerably less strange when going through left hand corners which causes the camera to move, then it sounds like normal dull 4-pot. I bet the strange noise is produced by the camera vibration.
Interesting that a P2 car that is NOT LEGAL in ACO is being allowed to run as a factory team in TUSC. I guess if they want ANY P2 this year in TUSC they have to ignore the ACO rules. Something they refused to do when it came to nonflying the P2 in BoP with the DP.
The only ACO LMP2 rulebook that was kept for TUSC is the chassis and engine rulebook. There are no longer restrictions on factory support and development and there is no requirement for an amateur driver. The Speedsource teams entry is perfectly legal.
TUSC announced that P2 would run under ACO rules except for having to run Lemans aero package and 60 kilos of weight. There was NO MENTION of waving any other ACO rules.
Rick Johnson If IMSA and TUSC were to be keeping the ACOs sporting regulations for LMP2, there would need to be an amateur driver apart of every team. Since DP has and still is allowed a full pro lineup, don't you think it would make sense that the LMP2 cars are allowed the same? Ganassi Racing is now also a factory backed team with both financial and development support from Ford and their EcoBoost program. If DPs are allowed factory support, would it also be logical to allow LMP2 factory support? The idea of the new TUSC series is to merge NASCAR and the ACOs ideas of prototypes. For 2017, both the ACOs ELMS, ASLMS and WEC and IMSAs TUSC will be running the same regulations for prototypes. The series is also looking to keep as many teams manufacturers from both ALMS and Grand Am in the new series. Obviously, if IMSA is aiming for good, even competition in the prototype class, they would not only balance the performance of the cars but also balance the sporting regulations for the teams.
neither speedsource, nor MSR, nor ganassi are factory teams. mazda is an engine manufacturer, ford is an engine manufacturer, chevrolet("corvette") is an engine manufacturer, etc. the corvette DPs are closer to a factory prototype than this mazda powered lola, considering GM built the engine AND the designed the bodywork - yet none of the corvette DPs are factory ran. inform yourself before you spew this uninformed, ignorant bullshit - there are NO factory teams in the prototype class.
RyTrapp0 I'm not talking about factory teams like Audi Sport and Toyota Racing in the WEC, which are entirely factory supported. I'm talking about how Acura/HPD ran it's LMP2 program in 2007-08. None of the teams were "factory teams" but they benefited greatly from engine and chassis developments made by HPD. The main reason for Ganassi's switch from Dinan/BMW power to Ford for the 2014 season was factory, development support from Ford. www.racer.com/mazda-unveils-skyactiv-diesel-p2-program-for-tuscc/article/320863/ - "Mazda will make its long-awaited return to the ranks of prototype racing in 2014 when it enters a pair of FACTORY-BACKED P2 cars in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship." Marshall Pruett doesn't really seem to me like a guy to jump to conclusions, especially if he had an interview with the head of Mazda's North American Motorsport program. Please, do some research and think before you start to "spew this uninformed, ignorant bullshit." Also, this may be the internet but you don't have to act like a complete dick... please, have some respect.
Besides the obvious vibration sounds... I love the Skyactiv diesel.. Especially when it ran in the Mazda 6 Gx class last year .

Dont worry folks its not a WWII airplane about to hit your house, someone just forgot to make sure the camera was wonted properly
Someone forgot to tighten the camera mount.
Nasty vibration in that loose camera mount!
Sounds like a model airplane lol
is it rotary powered?
No, its commom diesel engine
That makes the strangest noise, Nothing like the Audi or Pug. Half the cylinders would be part of the difference but it's an odd thing that

***** You are definitely right.
The sound is horrible, don't know why racer posted this... If you need an onboard video, send them back out and fix the camera o.o

That was quite underwhelming. Nothing to make me excited about diesel racecars.
