    Currently almost done with my dry socket healing and I have had this repacked every two days for the past week and I can tell you it tastes like battery acid dipped in spice 😩 the taste goes away after a few hours but reappears just a tiny bit when you eat or if you touch it. Absolutely disgusting but it does temporarily relieve pain. It’s a heck of a lot better than the excruciating pain of a dry socket. One of the worst pains of my life and I have 3 kids.

      Yes sometimes you need some socket medicament like the Alveogyl or a similar material. Advil / Tylenol don't usually touch a dry socket so stronger pain medication is helpful in the short term. I wish you all the best!

    Thank you for these videos.
    I had dry socket and a very awkward dental visit to get this stuff in. They gave me no advice or infomation on this stuff so I didn't know what to do with it.
    I'm a very nervous patient and was already traumatised and kinda dazed from the experience so didnt think to ask questions.
    1. How long does it last?
    2. Can we start eating normal again? Or is it back to stage one of the healing process.
    3. Is it normal to have discomfort as it starts falling out? Is that the healing clot pushing it out?
    4. Do we need to go back and get it replaced?
    Thank you for this x much love x

    • @ManiacallyQuiet
      @ManiacallyQuiet ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1- A day or two.
      2- Back to Stage one
      3- It is normal to have some pain after it falls out, and sometimes its necessary to put a fresh one back in...there's no clot forming, the healing is done with granulation tissue.
      4- Depends on the degree of discomfort and pain.

    I recently had what my dentist referred to as a "very complicated wisdom tooth extraction." Had pain and swelling that wouldn't go away plus developed a foul taste and breath in my mouth. Went in because I thought I possibly had an infection and my dentist didn't even see me just had them prescribe me antibiotics. Still kept feeling lots of pain over the weekend so went to get an xray and it showed they left a piece of tooth fragment behind. It had been pushed up towards the gum line! Told me I also had dry socket and made a comment saying "we rarely get dry socket cases in a year and here you are with dry socket." He made me feel like I did something wrong but I followed the instructions as I was told. Could I have gotten dry socket from the piece of tooth left behind? I did get some relief after this stuff was put in but I did cry on the chair while they irrigated and packed it lol 😩😓😥

      @OnlineExodontia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dry socket is often pretty intense for people. The packing demonstrated in the video only works for 1-2 days, then it wears off and the pain can return. The idea is to make it manageable with regular pain meds as they often won't even touch a dry socket. If you have concerns, I would follow up with your provider as they may have to pack it again for you. All the best!

    My dry socket stopped hurting a few days ago but still a nice crater. Should I not pack / remove the paste if it's healing? Hi Emma - glad you're healing well. At this point, Alveogyl won't help much as you mentioned you're not having pain and it's a significant time after the extraction. It also won't really harm anything so probably more of a question for your provider as they may have had a reason they wanted it. All the best!

    Hi. I got my tooth extracted (lower jaw) 8 days ago. Experienced deadly pain (10/10) in half the jaw, up to the eye and ear and nasty taste in the mouth. Went back to the doctor to get the the dry socket filled 4 days ago. The treatment removed the pain right away, and I have only had a little discomfort since until today. Now the pain is more intense again (5/10), and the nasty taste is back.
    1. Is it normal to have an unpleasant taste until the dry socket is completely healed, or is it a sign of infection?
    2. How long do I have to expect to have pain? Do you count 7-14 days of healing from surgery or from filling in the dry socket?
    3. Is it normal to have discomfort as it starts falling out? Is that the healing clot pushing it out?

    • @OnlineExodontia
      @OnlineExodontia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kristine - the good news is these things get better with time. The taste is sometimes the result of stagnant packing in the socket. Occasionally it doesn’t fall out too easily and just collects bacteria and irritates the site after a while. Question, does alveogyl particles that remain in the hole that almost healed can be dissolved by the white blood cells? I see on internet quite divided opinions about this product. Some people say it gets dissolved, some that it gets displaced..
    Is there any danger for this thing to stay inside and creates more problems later? In my case, a good amount of it got displaced and felt out within the first 24 hours, but I can still see deep down in the "pit" small "chunks" of it...

    • @OnlineExodontia
      @OnlineExodontia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a great question. The manufacturer states that it will be displaced and extraction sockets heal from the outside, inward and the base upward so I see very little chance of this remaining behind. It's a plant-based substrate that's used.

    Hi! I'm ten days post-op for all four wisdom teeth. I had one tooth on the bottom that was impacted terribly and he had to break it in half to get it out. I went back today because of pain, turns out I had a dry socket on that side and he packed it. Didn't really give me the best aftercare instructions. Can I eat normally after a couple hours? How long does it take to fall out?

    • @OnlineExodontia
      @OnlineExodontia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Riley - you can eat normally whenever you feel up to it. Be careful with that side and try not to have foods like rice or popcorn or small little things like that which can find their way into the socket and cause trouble later on. There is no good answer for how long that stuff stays in (depends on how tightly it's packed, shape of the socket, how you're cleaning, etc.), all I can tell you is that it will eventually come out so not to worry. All the best!

    I had mine done this 3 days ago. The pain went away for 2 days but it’s starting to hurt again. With time, the brown stuff came off as I rinsed after food intake. Should I have this brown paste put on my mouth again? What is the healing process after the first application? Thanks a lot

    • @OnlineExodontia
      @OnlineExodontia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nishma - this is pretty common as it's designed to just get you more comfortable while the healing takes place. It actually acts a bit like a foreign body which in reality can slow healing a bit, but the trade-off is it's more comfortable. My usually comment to patients is if you can manage your discomfort with Advil / Tylenol and it's tolerable, you don't need more packing. If pain medications are not working, it's advisable to have it flushed and packed again. All the best!

      @@OnlineExodontia thank you for the reply. Yes, the pain is tolerable but I am a bit concerned because the hole is big and everytime I eat, the food particles go there and sometimes even after couple of rinses I feel like it’s still there and am worried that with time if it causes some infection and do I need to visit dentist soon (it’s been 4 days after I saw the dentist).

    Hey doc! I just got my bottom right wisdom tooth extraction site treated for a dry socket. It was a complete extraction, it’s been 8 days since the removal. I am noticing more pain after they packed and sew my gums. Is that normal?

    • @OnlineExodontia
      @OnlineExodontia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hard to comment Harrison - if sutures were placed for some reason then yes certainly things would be a bit more tender around the area. I would reach out to your provider if you have concerns as they'll be more familiar with what they did for you. All the best!

      If a person has dry socket, it will resolve on its own with or without treatment, so yes, in time the pain will subside. All the best!

      Septodent Alveogyl is little costlier than Prevest company....

      Hey Destiny. It is better to not smoke while a socket is healing because smoking delays healing so avoiding it is better.

    My dentist packed my socket with alveogyl 5 days back (felt great for 3 days) and it still hasn't dissolved/been displaced. Now it's starting to hurt and since it's the weekend all I can do is lightly rinse my mouth with saltwater. Not sure what else I can do... Could it possibly cause an infection since it's a foreign body?

    • @OnlineExodontia
      @OnlineExodontia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Allyson - there are times where this stuff hangs around too long and it becomes a source of irritation. I would visit your dentist to have them take a look and potentially clean it out for you. All the best!

  • @colinbrady1219
    @colinbrady1219 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video! Do you ever anesthetize the patient before packing the Alveogyl, or is that an unnecessary step?

    • @OnlineExodontia
      @OnlineExodontia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I never do Colin. It's not super comfortable for them, but it only takes a couple seconds and most patients tolerate it just fine. The discomfort from the injection would likely be more than actually packing the site. If you were to anesthetize them, you could consider bupivicaine to have a longer lasting effect and perhaps provide a temporary relief for them. All the best!
