      @Russel Schwartz You might not be putting enough pressure on it when you're biting down. If it keeps up, try a super gentle swish of salt water first! In two days if it's still badly bleeding, see your dentist to make sure the stitch didn't pop. If it gives you any hope, I'm doing better since my first comment. Follow this advice given in the video, and keep it clean as possible. Salt water (very gentle swishing!) after meals helped me tons - also gentle brushing away from the area. I despise yogurt now lmfao. It blows for like a week or two, and gets better rapidly after. Also avoid hot foods and drinks as long as you can, and stay away from spices too! I have to go back and get a second tooth taken out but I'm waiting a while (after holidays) because it was not a fun experience with after care lol

    Great I have been one who followed what I was told! Details are important! I thought I had dry socket, but it was irritation from the gauze. Where I kept putting gauze in thinking the gauze was to protect the hole from air and any particles. The gauze began to irritate my jaw and extraction site. Was told it's important to keep it in, but not told to stop after a certain time if no bleeding is observed! Great breakdown this should help many extraction patients!

    Brother, I appreciate this so much! My doktor left me with a small piece of gauze in my mouth (which was very bad placed, on my other tooth and partly on the operated tooth) , and just said “bite a lil on it for an hour” and let me go. This while he extracted my 2 wisdom teeth on the left side + 1 upper tooth next to the wisdom teeth. Also he never said that I should drink in the first hours or spit out the blood. Because I wasn’t aware of how important it is to make the bleeding stop, I drinked water and I didn’t panicked for like 3-4 hours. Then I began to get huge blood (dark red/black) cloths which where abnormal, it was like there was huge pieces of meat in my mouth (very disgusting). When I called the hospital, she just told me to roll a gauze as if it’s a sigar and bite on it, but I put the gauze vertically (because the initial dokter placed it like that) and I used up 8-9 gauzes. No stopping bleeding and finally at 1 am in the night I found your video which explained perfectly how to put the gauze between your teeth and that it’s extremely important to keep high pressure on the wounds. After fighting against my sleep, biting down for 40 minutes, it FINALLY stopped bleeding and the gauze wasn’t as bloody and nasty as all the other gauzes. So thank you very much for your video, I was about to go to the hospital, but now I can finally rest and eat some. Bless you brother!

  • @PrincessShabz1

    Thank you for this. I was bleeding lots near the stitches of my wisdom tooth on the 1st day. I was used up 8 gauzes, biting down and changing them every 30mins. I went back to the dentist same day as I was worried I was still bleeding 6 hours after extraction. they checked it and said it looks fine. They wasn’t concerned about the bleeding. After watching this video, I used a WET gauze- left it on for 30mins, it was still bleeding a little and I decided not to put anything on there- it did clot up on its own that night. I’m on the 2nd day, I can taste blood but no excessive bleeding.

Dentists (and every other doctor) answer so many questions and try to make sure other things are said and it gets left out because they are human like everybody else :) My dental surgeon didn't say a word about this today. I could just look at the gauze and see that it was rolled, so I did the same thing. I was bleeding quite a bit for a few hours. I didn't know I should be pushing it all the way back where I had all four wisdom teeth pulled. I thought they were to absorb the blood and saliva in my mouth. • @OnlineExodontia
      @OnlineExodontia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It’s tricky May. There are many factors involved. On your end of things I would say the most critical time period is the first day or two after surgery. Try to minimize how much you disturb the area to allow the clot to get established. If you rinse too much, eat hard crunchy food, poke at the site trying to clean out the hole, etc. you will increase your odds of dry socket. Smoking is another big thing to avoid. All the best!

    This is helpful, thank you. I've never quite known how to use gauze. I'm having two back lower molars surgically extracted next week. • @OnlineExodontia
      @OnlineExodontia  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You'll still generally have an exposed extraction site as it's difficult to close the gum completely in most areas of the mouth. It's also not necessary most times to close the tissue after an extraction as most sites will heal fine as an open wound. All the best!

    Its been about 3 hours, and it's still bleeding. I am worried about how much *pressure* I should apply. Is there such thing as *too much pressure?* Should I put just enough pressure to the point that its near too much, but a little less than that? Or harder? Or softer perhaps?
    Thank you!

      Make sure the gauze is directly over the site and bite firmly. Not so hard that your muscles get sore or fatigued, but you should feel the pressure on the extraction site. All the best!

    Hi Dr.!!! It's been exactly 1 and half a day since my daughter got her molar extracted, and I think her dentist gave her improper instructions after the extraction. He didn't tell her to wet the gauze before putting it on the extraction site, and he didn't tell her to roll up the gauze. He ONLY told her to place the dry gauze on the extraction site, AND to fold the gauze in 1/4, but didn't tell her to put the rounded edge where the socket is. Because of that it took longer to stop bleeding. Will doing what she did take her body longer to form a clot? And is it normal for the dissolvable sutures to take 3 weeks to dissolve? Thank you SO much in advance for your reply!👍🏻

    I’m confused got my wisdom teeth out yesterday all 4, and 3 stopped bleeding except 1, lower right one. When I put pressure on it still bleeds a little but when I don’t put pressure it’s fine. Should I still bite on a gauze for it if the top one above it is fine I don’t want to irritate it

    • @OnlineExodontia
      @OnlineExodontia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as the blood isn't actively flowing out, you're good. It is common to have some 'oozing' of blood from the socket following an extraction. If you aren't sure though, it doesn't hurt to contact your provider. All the best!

Guess they didn’t have 4x4lol. when I started switching them out I was getting more gag reflexes and literally no room enough to be able to talk. Then I saw this today and was like… well no wonder because I’d rolled them up instead of folding, which I thought wouldn’t matter but it gave me more room in my mouth and much more comfortable lol
