      I don't agree with it, but what I've come to accept is that I have no control over it. Jake Tran obviously can't get rich at my expense, because he has no appeal to me. He succeeds because he is on some level giving people what they want, or he would fail. So being angry at Tran is equivalent to being angry at a large demographic of people that I have to accept are there -- and trust me if you look at the state of the world, there are a lot of terrible mindsets and ideologies out there.
      I don't have the time, nor the energy to worry about any of them, only to be knowledgeable enough about them to figure out how to avoid them and which are a direct threat. If I'm super angry just because someone got rich by unscrupulous means that didn't affect me personally than I've probably got some issues like envy, or jealous in my subconscious that I need to check unless I'm that rare individual that gets angry over every injustice and not specific ones -- and I happen to know that I'm not.

      @@Xdgvy an entity dedicated to making money, not necessarily something that happens to make money. Mothers and fathers have to make money for their families, it does not mean they are untrustworthy and evil. But if they were solely dedicated to hustling and getting rich and their family coming second and suffering for it, then yeah those labels may apply. I mean technically, a corporation is simply a group of people or other entities that act as one entity legally, i.e. a brand like Amazon. An honest mom and pop shop could be a corporation and I would consider them a friend, whereas some lone grifter I would not consider my friend.
      There are also sole proprietorships in which a business is wholly owned by and is essentially one individual, which can be better or worse than a corporation. I could go on with examples but it is unfortunate how oversimplified or wrong that the average person or TH-cam commenter is about various topics. There is nothing wrong about that, until they start acting like they do know and tell other people misguided or false information confidently, as you have done.

    • @Xdgvy
      @Xdgvy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IanB3rry Fair enough, I will tweak my definition:
      Something that *only exists* to make money.
      As for the second part, I disagree. Mom and pop shops don't care about you either. Now, mom and pop care about you (assuming a small enough consumer base) and they value your money- and can even value you as a person. But the shop only exists to make money.
      Same thing with proprietorships; but the point isn't that people can't be your friend, the point is that a nonliving entity with *literally only one goal* is not your friend.
      As for why my answer was so simple? The complexities of corporate structure in this context have less bearing on the topic at hand IMO. I kept it simple, but (as you rightly pointed out) I missed two very important words. I have rectified it here.

Fear makes people helpless, especially when you push it and push it (which is also lucrative in dollars and cents.) So who is the "Evil" one? A person playing on people's anger and fear and making money off it, disguising it as "eye opening information" while pushing scams... Or the Corporations that you already know are openly evil pricks? They both are.
    His reaction to Coffeezilla was the nail in the coffin for a lot of fans. I'd had it after he just had these "WOW, X is EVIL" Clickbait titles. We know Royal Dutch Shell are evil. He was fully open on his practices (YT or journalism was not a passion but a get rich quick scheme for him), I was aware of the shady ads but did not care because that was not a channel oriented to a young audience (and his content was never about him, not like a classical influencer per se). Content is king and I liked discovering new subjects and making my own research on it after. At one point quality started to drop, the new voices didn't sound as good as his own and it is really important in this type of content. People started to complain a lot in the comments, myself included because the quality of the scripts and the subjects chosen started to take a nosedive. But the temptation to make things up - or to fudge facts - or exaggerate claims - or lean on speculation remains high. Because few people in the audience will go through such a long list of refs to double check for where every individiual claim comes from. Thats why putting timed citations under each claim - either by time stamping the video itself - or by putting time code in the reference document - should be the standard for creators. We as the audience must demand this. This is the standard for nonfiction writing - it should be the standard for nonfiction video work. You can see creators like Lemmino, HBomberGuy and others already do this.

    He makes good content but his videos to me have always seem like videos around an ad. Like the meme “there’s a video in your ad bro.” I did notice that his stuff is like superficial as in, he barely touches a subject, never goes deep enough, and the video abruptly ends, leaving the viewer with a lot to be desired, keeping them in a loop of watching his content. Then he started talking about some subjects where I’m either a professional at, it’s literally my area of study, or I just happen to have a lot of knowledge in, and his façade quickly falls apart. I could immediately tell how little he knew about these subjects and these video content. How misleading he seemed at putting up this aura of knowledge and insight, where it literally just felt like he read the first couple paragraphs of Wikipedia and called it a day. This left a sour taste in me, and I automatically started seeing all the clickbait and downright bs in his videos at times. To the point that I don’t really watch his content anymore, I’m still a sub, but don’t know for how long. I try to watch his videos that catch my interest but I quickly realise how he acts as though he knows more than everyone else because he did some “research,” and idk, just puts an annoying feeling throughout the video, especially when you realise you know wayyy more than he does about the current subject matter, and how shady and misleading he is. So it just makes me want to leave the video, which I do, especially when every video seems like a huge setup for a cash grab advertisement…

Idk, that’s just how he comes off to me. When compared to other informational channels and such, they do a lot better explaining or going into subjects with video lengths that are probably just a little longer than his, and those creators don’t come across as snobby and such. A lot of Jake’s stuff has always been me like “well yes you’re technically right but in actuality…” and idk, he comes across to me as deceitful in his “analysis” of things. And clearly I’m not the only one who’s noticed. He puts out mediocre content, dresses it in gold, and the imbecile masses just eat it up. Meanwhile the real channels that have teams of people and take time to research and such, and out better quality content from an educational standpoint, they struggle to get the algorithmic success & performance that Jake got, given that they truly care about the content they make and don’t manipulate the oblivious masses.

      That's because good and evil don't exist and are purely subjective 'categories' with give to traits we find praiseworthy or unredeemable. Typical examples of 'goodness' are often self-serving, typical examples of 'evil' are just people trying to understand why someone acted in a way they don't like. Both are often sourced from someone's life experiences and are maybe not 'justified' but there are nearly always reasons as to why they act in the way that they do. A basic example for something like Jake Tran's situation is being paranoid by your own mortality and wanting wealth early to make the most out of life. That's not inherently evil, and if it affects you that much, it can easily overpower how much you care about exploitation. The only people I would personally see as evil are pedophiles and sadists. While the same things could apply to these people, when you yourself personally start hurting people in extreme ways for no other reason than your own desires then that reaches inexcusable territory for me.
      Personally, I don't think Jake did much wrong. I fully believe that people need responsibility for themselves, and if you're smart enough to take advantage of others like this then good for you. He values wealth more than his own mortality and there can be various reasons for which. And, to be honest, unlike scammers who have a much more active and malicious means of exploitation, his seemed very tame. The funny thing is, almost everything Tran was criticized for doing, is corporate policy in like 90% of companies. The whole idea is to manipulate and exploit ignorant people into giving you as much money as possible. But it seems like when that corporate policy is tied to an individual outside of a corporate skeleton, it's no longer OK.
      I've never watched a single Jake Tran video by the way. Never even heard of him before. But I can't consider someone evil for doing what companies have been doing for decades. And many are far, far worse than he is.
