  • Join me, Jeff Smecker from TroutStrike.com, as I spend an unforgettable day fly fishing on Penns Creek with Scott Major from PA Woods n Water. This video is a real opportunity to learn from one of the best in the business. We enjoyed a fantastic day catching a mix of wild and stocked trout, using a variety of tactics.
Though Scott and I employ different systems, the basic principles of fooling trout on a fly rod remain the same. There’s no one right way to do it, and this collaboration highlights that beautifully. A huge thanks to Scott for joining me-I've been a huge fan of his channel for a long time, and it was awesome to finally get out on the water with him!
Don’t miss this exciting episode of TroutStrike Adventures, and be sure to like, comment, and subscribe for more fly fishing content!

Hey Jeff! Thank you for your kind words and sharing a day of your fishcation with me. We sure did have an up and down day, but plenty of fish interactions to say the least. I myself can really appreciate a challenging day and still having our successes throughout the entire day. Patience, being versatile , perseverance, and a little luck goes a long way in all kinds of fishing. It was great fun fishing with you and discussing our different fly fishing techniques , absolutely “more than one way to skin a cat!” I’m sure we’ll hit another stream together and share it with everyone again. Till then guys, subscribe and stay tune to both of our channels for further content. Be talking with you soon Jeff and keep up the content. Tight Lines!

Hey Scott! Looking forward to getting after it again! It was a great day on the water. I’m definitely going to be tying up some of your blue perdigons! I’m also going to need to restock my olive soft hackles!! Thanks again for coming out! Awesome day!

This is a terrific video. I tend to fish a mono rig, but I really enjoy Scott's videos and watching his approach to nymphing. I was wondering, on just this one day you fished together, who brought more fish to the net (Not that it's a contest; I'm interested in the relative effectiveness of your techniques).

Ha!! First of all, Scott is a true gentleman! He made sure he always gave me the first choice on where I wanted to fish! We both did really well! We each had slow points in the day, but we each found our mojo! We truly lost count. We each netted 20 or more. But, believe me....Scott could out fish me any day of the week! It was awesome to be on the water with him. He is as nice a guy in person as he is in his videos!

So you had a guy that’s not even from the area showing you new parts of the stream 😂.

Uh…I’m not from central PA either. Is that a requirement to know a river? Not sure what you’re trying to say.

@@troutstrike Well thanks for coming here and posting our streams on TH-cam. Thats what I’m trying to say.

@@TMucc216 i get your concern. Know that I’m not some “outsider” trying to exploit the region. I am on “your” streams just about every week. I spend a ton of time in central PA. I almost never mention stream names on my site or in videos. I’m fascinated with this idea of “spot burning.” You have books out there with detailed maps and resources like Trout Routes, but I’m the problem? The last thing I ever want to do is exploit these resources. There’s so much hypocrisy out there.

@@troutstrike What you just said is complete hypocrisy. Just because there are books out there doesn’t mean you have to further contribute to the problem. You and your “buddy” are part of the problem whether you want to admit it or not. I’m not sure what the reason for you to spend the time making a literal production out of a fishing trip is. The only thing I can think of is to try to become famous while exploiting (yes exploiting) a resource from somewhere you aren’t from. And in this example, you did name the stream you are fishing.

@@TMucc216 I'm happy to have a constructive conversation about this topic. From my perspective, I see that every fly shop has "stream reports" that give detailed descriptions of these rivers. There are podcasts with millions of downloads that claim to not "spotburn," yet if you go to their website, they name all of the streams they guide. They talk freely about being in Central Pa and often refer to their "favorite rivers." Hmmm...I wonder which ones they mean? If I wanted to become famous, I'd pick a wider audience than fly anglers. I enjoy fly fishing and creating content. If you spent any time on my site, you'd see that I'm not about exploiting anything. I'm about sharing my passion for fly fishing with others and creating a space for anglers to continue to learn. There are a lot of people who enjoy content like this who just aren't able to get out on the water. Not everyone is as lucky as you to live in this region. But that doesn't give you any more right to these waters than anyone else. There are a lot of people who are just learning about the sport and benefit from seeing it from this perspective. That said, if you want to get on guys like myself and Scott, suit yourself. I hope you are out there railing on authors, podcasters, guides, and fly shops too. Again, I'm happy to have a constuctive conversation. Snide and cryptic comments on my youtube channel and facebook page are not productive.
