    I'm fishing a river with nothing but 20 foot plunge pools, and very challenging for a 70 year old to work through, but after two trips to it I've been encouraged by some (limited) slashes at the fly, but no takers. I was thinking of moving to a different type but more distant water, but the material presented here made me see my approach was far too methodical. "Work the seams then move on" means I simply should be covering more water, and that is a strategy and philosophy I hadn't yet implemented. I have a fresh mindset to take to the water next week! Thanks!

    Caught my first fish on the fly rod yesterday 😊 Beautiful wild rainbow. I had a collection of some crappy flies that have worked so far, but now i have your 122 piece kit ready to go for my next outing. I don't care what anyone says about your flies, that kit for $99 is a screaming value, especially for a new fly angler! Once I learn which flies really work for me, I'll probably be back to stock up on more of those.

    Confirms allot of what I found in the streams around my home. Pocket water fish your feet first, and bigger gaudier flies (because the fish don't have much time to inspect fly but need to see the fly so don't be subtle) Also in warmer weather the rapids and bubby water hold more oxygen so the bigger more dominant fish will be there. My personal best brown trout came from a tight pocket on the Ruakituri river NZ 10lb and barely fitted in that pocket :)

    • @venturesflyco

      Yup the wading is more difficult, but its rewarding because not a lot of other anglers want to do it. Less angling pressure = better fishing. haha Be careful out there!

    • @venturesflyco
      @venturesflyco  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Spencer’s go to is the hopper dropper. If there are a ton of fish rising, he’ll go to just a dry. If there is no bug activity or low likelihood of fish eating off the top… he’ll resort to a nymph rig… eventually. Haha.

      It sorta depends what kind of bass fishing you're doing. If you're hucking streamers and going after large mouth, an 8wt. is actually just about perfect. But if you're going after smallies and nymph fishing, you might have a harder time vs. having a 6wt.
