@@juanrivera6207 No. I quit the IT field all together. Turns out I did not like the field at all and there's very little to no job security. I'm currently training to be a diesel mechanic.
Just passed the A+ 1001 exam tonight. Thank you professor Messer for your videos. I spent the majority of my time learning from them...these are way more helpful than my college courses. lol
Congrats! I’m brand new to It, and starting with this Network+ exam. Thank god for these videos. Any other tips you have for me? I have the book, CBT Nuggets, obsessive notes, etc. Anything helpful you can tell me about the exam?
So, what’s the main difference between proxy servers and firewalls? You say proxy servers sit in the middle of user and web server and can keep unwanted people from accessing a URL, but a firewall sits between the inside of the user and the internet and also keeps unwanted people out? Thanks in advance, and to you Prof Messer!
To give a more complete answer, traditional firewalls really only exam layer 3 and 4 information (Source IP, Source port, Destination IP and Destination port to be precise) as the traffic passes through them. It then makes it's decision on whether or not allow the traffic based off this. Proxies will actually hold the data for a short period of time (think milliseconds) in order to scan the contents for virus and other issues. That explanation of both of those things is rather simplistic still, but it should be enough to give you an idea. Many modern firewalls can incorporate a proxy as well, so that is something to keep in mind too. I am most familiar with this feature on Fortigates so I will use that as an example. When doing full SSL expect ion on a fortigate it will use a proxy. The data would be unencrypted in order to the read contents. This is used so that they can virus scans, more advanced IPS/IDS work, as well verify the websites trying to be reached in order to apply web content filtering.
Currently working from home via VPN, working through this course in preparation for the Network +. Thank you for everything you do.
I just got my A+ cert a few days ago and will now be proceeding towards the Network+ cert. Wish me luck.
Did you end up getting your net+

A firewall simply prevents unauthorized access to your computer. A proxy hides your internal network from the Internet.
@@handyandyradio thanks buddy, sorry I missed your reply back then! Exam next Friday. Yikes

I passed the Security+ certification last weekend!!
But I am wondering ",now what...."
AWS or Azure certifications.
does proxy servers always slow down the connections?
That was very well explained.
3 months and I’ll be ready…
How do you feel about the test after studying for 2 months?
@@ascheme9705 i think I wasn’t that prepared. I felt I needed more time but luckily I passed.
