    The objectives show some of the ports use SSL, whereas the video showed TLS for some of the ports. Was this a mistake and does it matter?
    Thanks in advance

      Although almost everything is TLS these days, we still often colloquially refer to it as SSL. If you see anyone talking about SSL, they're really referring to TLS.

      @@professormesser I was surprised to see that you said SIP for VoIP used TCP on port 5060 and 5061. Is that only for session initiation, then the actual call data switches to UDP?
      When doing a search for SIP protocol, UDP gets mentioned. TCP only gets mentioned regarding how it is not suitable for VoIP.

    Thank you so much for these videos, Professor! How do you keep in mind the difference between SMB vs. FTP/SFTP?

      SMB is client to server where multiple endpoints can alter a file on the server. FTP copies file on client and sends to server.

    • @Bill-fx1kf
      @Bill-fx1kf ปีที่แล้ว +6

      SMB is primarily used for scanners so S, FTP is used for files so F

    What's the point of UDP? I always felt it is inferior and can't see any pros to using it.

    • @cmon200
      @cmon200 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      from my understanding udp is faster and is used for streaming service where it wouldn't matter if the receiver didn't get every piece of data. like loosing a frame on a 30fps show wouldn't matter that much

      Aside from streaming (video or music, etc.), it's also used for voice and video calls. It's used for real-time sync in online multiplayer games as well.
