hey alice, I'm so grateful for your helpful videos. I haven't been making music for long but I don't want to work with a DAW. I'm trying to implement your tips with the Roland MC707. It's really very difficult and I always fail because of the sound picking, melodies and synthys that overlap.
This is how competence sound like!! I am so impressed with how you are able to teach and simplify things that originally seemed complicated. I am a MASSIVE fan of your videos Alice!
Very nice video! I've seen so many conflicting info on this, and you nailed it here, the fact that movement in the sound is what sets this apart. Lots of jump in octaves, and lots of play with volume envelope, filter envelopes ect.
Amazing how you are able to explain everything effortlessly. I always end up overcomplicating things and eventually trash the 'track' as I get stuck with too may elements. Back to basics, back to simplicity for me and your channel will help me with that! Keep up the good work.
Many thanks Alice. I've not long come across your channel but rapidly becoming an avid follower! All of your videos are so engaging and easy to follow. You have a great way of explaining things clearly ... and always with so much positive energy 🙂 Keep 'em coming!
I recently discovered your channel. You are very professional. Unbelievable how you can name everything we can here in a techno music. Back in the days, Emmanuel Top - Climax, Energy 52 - Café Del Mar '98 (Three 'N One Mix), etc. They were so cool sounding techno music. Now you created same feeling for me in 2024. Keep up the good work.
Amazing content and teaching style. I was a film composer for many years but just got into making Melodic Techno recently. I’m getting better with every one of your videos. And your tracks are fire. 👊🏻
Your teaching is at such a high level that even if a tutorial is about something I already know I will still watch it just to put my head in order and for the sheer enjoyment of it 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
I ended up her after your Anyma video popped up on my page, im so glad it did because as someone who can play instruments, has been going to raves for 30 years, but has zero idea how my favorite tracks from back in the 90's and 00's (such as Lizard by Mauro Picotto, and Binary Finary) to now loving Anyma, Rebuke ect its so interesting to see how these tracks are created. Youre a fantastic teacher, and I really liked some of your own tunes Ive seen in your videos! P.S. you really suit the blonde hair 😊
I've just found your channel and the advice is super solid. One suggestion though, I find the background music while you're talking pretty distracting, it pulls me out of the vibe of the song you're working on.
Hiya, great vid thanks a lot for this! Quick question: at 2:18 I was looking for the oscilators you use, but cant find sub37 and pro1. Any ideas? Sorry if its a noob question!
You are probably one of the best music production teachers on TH-cam! Thanks for all the info 🙏 BTW where is the link for your Patreon? I couldn’t find it on the description
very nice!! thank you! what about the tuning of the kick in relation with the bass, you tune it root note of the track, maybe kick to root and bass to 3rd or 5th??
I like to tune it to either root or the 5th. But 3rd should work as well. That being said, if the kick is super short and doesnt have any audible sustained sub, it doesnt matter. Also some kicks would have constant pitch roll, those can't be "tuned" for example and can sound good in a mix. So it depends a little bit on the kick I am using. 😊
Awesome vibe, awesome video, awesome bit. Already subscribed and checked out mercurialtones. What a goldmine for techno lovers❤️ Alice, please create a tutorial for Bitwig! Would be an instant purchase on my side. Started learning this DAW and already bought couple of great tutorials one for ambient and one for psy-trance. Melodic techno is missing😊
Hi alice, i just started my production journey i came across to ur videos and they are really helpful. Is there any techniques to write catchy or perfect melodies ?
Welcome to our community and hope you the best with your production journey! I have a couple of video about it. You just need to go a bit of back in my videos 😊
Starting to make tracks as a perfectionist and with the passion to create songs similar to what I love listening to I just get stuck I’m sure I’ll break through this barrier though 😅
Robert! ❤ Thank you! It is kind of the case and the rolling basslines and 8th/dotted 8th patterns are popular in mainroom/club tracks right now. They create a driving energy that's perfect for dancing, which I've definitely experienced firsthand at clubs and festivals when I DJed too. It seems the current trend favors 'in your face' tracks, and these basslines provide the necessary power while leaving space for big leads and hooks. Of course, there's a whole world of melodic techno with diverse basslines beyond the mainstream. I like to go to Beatport hype releases and do a bit of crate digging to hear some leftfield songs in the genre. I think we are at the moment where melodic techno got so big that it has to split into sub genres to keep evolving. Like techno did.
I've found that AI makes things that sound superficially good, but there's really nothing REALLY interesting going on in them. Super useful for inspiration though. This video came to me at just the right time! I feel like I'm on the cusp of making actually good stuff and I feel like these tips were a map to where I needed to go next. Thank you so much!
True bur techno showed its shortcomings it was mostly out of key and no melodies.Total amateurs with cheap hw boxes.Right now they definitely have more musical background and better melodies but also hugely overproduced. There is not even one hit that could last the same way faithless has been doing it in the past.Digital Audio is very harsh and thr soul would never fully enjoy it except you are off your tits
@@georginikolov1141 The imperfections inherent in analog signals indeed contribute to a distinct character in music, fostering a warmth and depth that resonates with many listeners. These subtle fluctuations in pitch and tone, along with the natural distortion introduced by analog gear, imbue the sound with a unique authenticity that often eludes digital emulations. For instance, a sophisticated VST like DIVA, despite its impressive capabilities, cannot fully replicate the organic essence of analog equipment. This digital approach result in a sterile sound, lacking the rawness and individuality that is foundational to techno. The very essence of techno thrives on its gritty textures and emotive qualities, which are often overshadowed by the hyper-polished nature of modern production. The challenge lies in balancing the precision of digital tools with the rich character that analog offers, as it is this character that truly defines what makes techno resonate on a deeper level.

Alice - you're simply great! Your preset packs are dope, your sample packs are dope. I love using them as I can move forward so quick. I make music with them on a regular basis. And your videos explain what I had to learn over the course of 10+ years. Keep it up and thanks!
Hey Alice, great stuff here as always! I have question if you don't mind, on the 4bar LFO2 on the filter on the bass. If you add an extra bar or a two bar break the envelope ends up out of sync. I have had this problem on a number of tracks. Is there a way to compensate for that.
