    For me, Amazon came to me and ask me to join. I was fully AWS solutions architect certified but interesting that they come to me, rather than I going to them. Which makes it so much easier as they want me and on my side to bring me in. They short listed me and now entering the interview stage. Even if they decide not to have me, I can kind of feel good about myself that Amazon reach out to me. I feel honored.

    Can you share the resources you used for passing the CCNA. At the college I'm at, I'm doing both the CISCO Networking and AWS Cloud Solutions. This semester I'm doing the fundamentals of Cisco and AWS of two classes (if can, learn more depth in both). Next semester be a full time student to finish all classes. For this semester it gives me a lot of extra time to learn even more in both fields or other technologies but cloud is where I want to establish. Additionally, my list this year is to learn Linux to get linux+ certification, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS practitioner certification. I know it's doable🙌. Thank you for sharing your experience getting in tech.

    • @ngo2go
      @ngo2go  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! For the CCNA, I used Jeremy's IT Lab(th-cam.com/video/H8W9oMNSuwo/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Jeremy%27sITLab), you'll learn more than what you really need to know on the CCNA, but more information doesn't hurt. I wish you the best of luck on those certs, all of them are possible to obtain as long as you put in the time and effort. You got this!

    Congrats on getting hired...are you Vietnamese? I assume so based on your handle. Just curious, was it the combo of the Cloud Practitioner and CCNA that got your the job, you think? Or was it something else? I'd like to see my nephew do an intern there as he's still in college, any advice?

    • @ngo2go
      @ngo2go  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you and yes I am Vietnamese :) I would say the certifications (including CCP and CCNA) got me into the interview process - almost any certification will show that you are qualified for the interview; but the understanding of those certifications will be tested on the interviews. So if you can demonstrate your knowledge and have a good personality that matches with the company culture, you're more likely to get hired! My last advice is to have personal projects if you don't have professional experience.

    • @doodahgurlie
      @doodahgurlie ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ngo2go Thanks for the info. I'll try to foist this info at my nephew in case he's wishy-washy about what he wants to do. Maybe have him hit you up if needed since he could use a slightly older Viet "brother" to guide him in the technical realm (he's studying engineering and interning with an aerospace company doing beginner type of development work, I think). I just have a big desire to see more Viets in IT as I see Indians have cornered the market and think we're behind on owning that piece of the pie.

    • @doodahgurlie
      @doodahgurlie ปีที่แล้ว

      How difficult was it for you to get the CCNA? I assume you may have learned a little bit of networking as a desktop support person so it wasn't as if you started from scratch? And you probably built computers and such in your role, correct?

    • @ngo2go
      @ngo2go  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll respond here to get two birds with one stone. I would recommend to your nephew to select a career path first -- being wishy washy about engineering and IT are totally two different things. Before I got the CCNA, I had the CCENT certification which was like an intro to networking which then led up to the CCNA. It took me about 3 months of studying (maybe 2 hours a day). Being in the desktop support role did not teach me networking theory or anything relevant that would've really helped me obtain the CCNA. If anything, studying for the CCNA helped me understand more in the desktop support role. Yes, I have built computers in the IT support role, but I've gained the knowledge to build computers way before I had any experience at all.

    • @ngo2go
      @ngo2go  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure! For me it took about a year and a half before I moved to my cloud support role. Salaries may vary depending on state, but for System Admins they typically can make between $60k-$75k. Of course this depends on your experience/education/certifications

      @@ngo2go Do you recommend any certs early on? I have a bachelors degree in something unrelated, will that be beneficial? Once I'm in role past help desk do you think advancement in IT will be guaranteed if I have good work ethic?

    • @ngo2go
      @ngo2go  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For IT certs, the CCNA, A+, Sec+ will all look good on your resume. These certs basically guarantee you an interview with the company (assuming that it's like an entry level position or junior position. For the degree, the employer will probably question why you shifted into the IT industry so I'm not too positive that'll help. But after your first help desk role, you are basically guaranteed to advanced if you seek for opportunities.

Just think of the customer and what would be best for them and you'll be fine on the assessment :)
