2021 Genio Scappa steel gravel bike with Sensah Reflex 2x8 groupset for less than $150. Surprisingly it's a bad-ass, it can even handle steep single tracks!
My cheapest bike is a Cyclewolf teenager bike which was thrown away a couple of years ago. I found it during a scrap metal collection and refurbished it, however it's still working fine and it did not need a lot of things replaced. It does not have the safety hazards of the bike in the video
Man I miss both my 2000 and 2001 CR250s those were the best bikes I raced never could get the hang of a 450. And would still love to have either one of those year even though I no longer race MX. They would make awesome off-road bike they had gobs of low end power especially with a fmf fatty pipe, porting and v-force reeds.
Yeah, you gave it way too much credit. I'd suggest that the failed fork put it over the top of, not safe, don't ever ride. Before the fork, it should be only safe to ride on relatively flat gentle conditions in dry weather.
Ha i got a decathlon special last year to see if i'd like riding after many decades away from bikes and just like your walmart special the spec of my bike shaped object aint up to much ...but it got me started it showed me i still loved riding and now im awaiting delivery of my Orbea Laufey and i'm itching to get out on it ...great video Rich
I run a small bike service business on the side and last year I had someone bring over their daughter's new bike she got for Christmas and hadn't been able to ride because the gears didn't shift properly. I looked it up and my pedals cost more than her whole bike! I got it running for her, but they are nearly impossible to setup well because the stamped steel chainring has 3mm+ runout and the front mech just can't handle that amount of wobble.
Well done Richard the trail looked amazing but riding the bike not as much. Hopefully you brought one of your other bikes to enjoy that beautiful trail system. Keep up the great work and stay safe out there.
Thats how I started with mtb, crapo walmart bike. Crashed hard, almost lost a few teeth and decided I needed a proper bike, so ended up with the Specialized Camber FSR in 2013
If you put on some better brakepads, tyres, and a better fork. You actually have an okay starter MTB. We have these bikes in Denmark to, there name is just Greenfield. And I have rebuilded a LOT of these bikers, and upgraded them
I mean, if it's all you can afford and you want to get out on the trails, I say send it. Just avoid any technical trails, unless you want a reverse hard tail. Can always buy upgrades later.
Hell nah. Do not send it on this. Guaranteed injury. And there are no upgrades to this. You better buy the Ozark trail or Kent straight away and it will last you and actually could be upgraded. This nonsense would break your neck.
I'm sure you can find a decent 10-12y full suspension bike for 250.- or better yet a nice old XC hardtail... much better off! Still a fun video though 🙂
Not surprise they are the bikes that time forgot, they're a very long way from professional standards. Good to see that you're showing the affordable can also be epic. Surprising, or predictable that the v brakes are screaming at you by the first corner. I'm voting Predictable. Certainly not the place you want to otb but I am waiting for it every time Rich goes down a rocky decent. There it was 11:10 Put a lock on it and by the next day it won't be there... Bit in a bit more needs to be replaced with lot, the walmart/Big W bikes are good for on road of gentle dirt.
I have a old Shimano full sus. bike, it's ok if you stick to non technician trails but I will not go on some dimending trails with it out of fear that the forks will snap off. Cheap coil shocks have a weird quark, if you overdo it they kick bak like a pogo stick, so fun 😁.
I'm surprised it had that many problems so fast, I have one of those, I've went up and down 7 different mountains in Colorado with that damn thing, it's still fine lol.
I would love to see a technical breakdown of one of these cheap forks and how the components compare to something like a suntour XCR (or equivalent) form. What makes these Walmart forks so cheap and unreliable?
From a safety point of view I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole… for that price look for something slightly better second hand. The second 26er market is alive and kicking.
4:16 wow, gear indicators, chainring chainguard, AND a kickstand? My £3000 bike has none of those! This bike is fully kitted out!

Get what you pay for. Great funny video!! 😂
definitely go over this shit with a fine tooth comb and a torque wrench before you get on it. remember it wasn't a mechanic (of any sort) that assembled this.
🤔What is the cheapest bike you've ever bought?
How long has it lasted? Let us know in the comments below! 👇
Raleigh Mantis £200 back in 91 got.me.into mountain biking had three great years together till passing it on to my dad
2021 Genio Scappa steel gravel bike with Sensah Reflex 2x8 groupset for less than $150. Surprisingly it's a bad-ass, it can even handle steep single tracks!
94 giant boulder shock from Deganwy cycles £250 in a sale ,thought it was the bee's knee's back in the day.
My cheapest bike is a Cyclewolf teenager bike which was thrown away a couple of years ago. I found it during a scrap metal collection and refurbished it, however it's still working fine and it did not need a lot of things replaced. It does not have the safety hazards of the bike in the video
Seth would be proud
Man I miss both my 2000 and 2001 CR250s those were the best bikes I raced never could get the hang of a 450. And would still love to have either one of those year even though I no longer race MX. They would make awesome off-road bike they had gobs of low end power especially with a fmf fatty pipe, porting and v-force reeds.
"if you were thinking of getting some like this" lol That was funny Rich!
Yeah, you gave it way too much credit. I'd suggest that the failed fork put it over the top of, not safe, don't ever ride. Before the fork, it should be only safe to ride on relatively flat gentle conditions in dry weather.
You need do series - every cheapest MTB of reputable brands like TREK, Orange, SCOTT, Rockrider (Decathlon)...
Some can be good, some bad.
The assembly is the biggest question. It was unboxed by the same guy that stocks the underwear.
You should have held out for the Kent 29 inch Flexor. The description says suitable for off load adventures.
8:27 that's an epic warning :)))
Well done Richard the trail looked amazing but riding the bike not as much. Hopefully you brought one of your other bikes to enjoy that beautiful trail system. Keep up the great work and stay safe out there.
We need a video on how to do that fancy trick you did with your foot while sitting down to get the back back up again
my only question: did you have to tighten anything because it was loose? or did you Trust that the walmart assembler properly torqued everything?
Thats how I started with mtb, crapo walmart bike. Crashed hard, almost lost a few teeth and decided I needed a proper bike, so ended up with the Specialized Camber FSR in 2013
Lean back, lean back - the early 90s MTBing mantra
Tge first thing that usually fails is the rear axle. Best first upgrade would be a hyperglide freehub wheel and a narrow wide chainring.
Rich with the cannons out for the like!
Fun video. But i think Walmart sell more serious kit on line.
You're a VERY brave man. 😆
Well, I asked you not to show my first bike, now everyone will laugh at me
Had a huffy that looked just like that. Got it when I was 12 now 35. Crazy how cheap mtb tech hasn’t changed.
Do you still have the Huffy? It would be great to see if it's survived 🤘
Somewhere on the bike frame there is a sticker states: not for off road use.
I have a old Shimano full sus. bike, it's ok if you stick to non technician trails but I will not go on some dimending trails with it out of fear that the forks will snap off. Cheap coil shocks have a weird quark, if you overdo it they kick bak like a pogo stick, so fun 😁.
I see you’re in AZ, can’t wait to see your 24HOP video!!
that should be your guys next cheap bike challenge, you Blake and The Don all get department store bikes and go head to head.
I'm surprised it had that many problems so fast, I have one of those, I've went up and down 7 different mountains in Colorado with that damn thing, it's still fine lol.
Like the exact same model as the one in the video.
Epic vid, and also, cheapest bike that I ever bought was a muddyfox hardtail, Good job on the vids.
Is this Phoenix Arizona?
Great video, let’s see some more!
Can you take it to the UK for a race against the Eurobike?
I would love to see a technical breakdown of one of these cheap forks and how the components compare to something like a suntour XCR (or equivalent) form. What makes these Walmart forks so cheap and unreliable?
Where is this trail and what is its name?
From a safety point of view I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole… for that price look for something slightly better second hand. The second 26er market is alive and kicking.
