Your calm demeanor and focus while playing chess has made me realise why I started playing in the first place and helped me get back into playing, which I havent done in years. Thanks!
Great game Patrick. The non-losing streak continues!! Given that you had lost to this guy six times before, today's game surely represents your progress. It was a tricky endgame. The only time I got nervous was when you played Kc4 at 22:00. Never put your king and queen on the same diagonal like this. Had black played Qa1 attacking your knight here, I think you may have played Nc6 to bring the knight closer to their king. And then you would have lost to Qa2+. Overall though - I think you are making your recent target of ending 2024 above 1500.
Pragmatic decision to go for the draw; you identified your time trouble weakness and decided to avoid the risk. A sign you’re maturing as a player Your endgames need a lot of work still; I was SCREAMING for you to push the b pawn lol which you did eventually but you were winning for sure if you didn’t waste any tempi. And trading the rook was not ideal as you were easily stopping that h pawn with it still on the board Some other stuff I noticed too but I’d have to look back over the game to give specifics - good game overall though! And nice vid as usual
8k subscribers, a new TH-cam milestone. Not quite the doubling you hoped for, but still nice. Good New Year's Eve Patrick! The start of the game was very wholesome!
i haven't seen the result of this game yet, but just wanna say congrats on your improvement. You seem strategically/tactically way, way stronger than you were a year ago. Your play really makes sense, and I think you're able to reason well, keep it up.
A win would have been nice with rook and night, but you recognized the time discrepancy. Taking a draw was a great decision in that situation! Well done!
I see a remarkable trend the last couple of games. You really play better. As if you are a 1600 player now. But your opponents seems to play worse and worse. As if they are 1200 players……
The time it takes you to finally decide to push a passed pawn is something you still need to work on. This game was drawn because of a single tempo. You should look at this game again and count all the tempi you wasted on making irrelevant moves instead of simply pushing your b-pawn. Maybe you should tattoo that on yourself like the character in "Memento" did.
You can get the most bang for the buck studying with a good endgame book. Capablanca advocated endgame study as it will allow you to make more correct decisions in the middlegame.
15:09 your knight is on the perfect square on e5. if you recognize this it's easier to realize that it's better to move another piece to try to improve the position
I'd really suggest speeding up when you gain a decisive advantage. I see you often go up a piece and then find yourself in time trouble trying to close out. You don't have to make the best moves, just look for practical one's that can help simplify the game. Time management is just as important at climbing the ratings as making the best moves.
Honestly being a piece up depending on the position isnt really a decisive advantage imo. Especially in the beginning, if your opponent avoids trades and focuses on complicating the position, it can get real mesy.
Thanks for the games Pat, very interesting journey! Patrick is great ambassador for chess already, focusing solely on chess. Magnus Carlsen, a great player but unfortunately also an entitled brat, could learn a touch of class from Patrick! :)
I disagree. Also, with talent/skill - not to mention mastery/prodigy/genius - comes an ego, in any pursuit, right? And if anyone should have a sense of entitlement isn't it the highest rated player ever? Regardless, Magnus is actually one of the few chessplayers I like as a person too, I don't see the "brattiness". regards

The endgame is where every chess player needs the most precise calculation.

I thought he was going to Botez gambit while his opponent was distracting him on chat.

Chess is a game of luck.
Not most 1200s could play 84% accuracy as fast as he played
With 30 seconds left just throw in a bunch of rapid checks with your queen to bump up your time clock

I was contemplating if I make a resolution to comment on your games every day.
I hate blitz players in my rapid games with a passion.
In increment games they tend to suffer. Just keep your cool and dismantle their army of pieces calmly.

Patrick you are now a household name Lol
Strange opening but well played, Patrick!
Keep it up! John Bartholomew has the famous 100 end games you must know!!
I cannot believe he g slinged you

So annoying to watch when you are in time trouble and you moving the pieces without acctually making a move!
You're starting to kick some ass!

Not untrue, but at the same time, if you're never losing or drawing a game because of time trouble, you're not using your clock correctly either.
@@mark5071 you're both right

I think u have one problem, you are slow. Improuve it.

Nice. You also know the chess rules or are you just online to give ‘1st’ comments?
