Amazing. Never followed a full match commentary like this before. Wonderful job mate, you and the chess community are the proof on how building up the stars can make an entire sport or even the smallest hobby blow up. 😃
As someone who just loves watching high level chess and sports in general, what an amazing game. Like in all sports that is truly what separates the great ones, their ability to rise to adversity and maintain mental control in the most clutch of times. Great commentary too btw, I like the unique style you bring.
Hans really ran Magnus close. A bit more composure may have taken him over the line but he tried to push in even positions in those last two games even though playing for parity might have been the better idea (especially when up on time). Pity this couldn't have been the final since Magnus just crushing everyone else.
No it was never close. Only the opening which should give a white advanice. Hans is 2 levels under Magnus. But no chess player is even close to him. When he stop eveyrone will say he is the best ever and forget Fischer.

Such a good representation of the game. Even during your potential moves, your commentary gave the feeling on impending time hanging over everything in a powerful way. Kudos!
Magnus's speed of thought coupled with his ability to see the best moves and formulate a winning plan with the speed of light is what sends him soaring above everybody. Capa could assess quickly. Fisher saw all tactics at a glance but only Magnus combines both abilities.

I was all about Magnus’s réponse. But honestly I give a bunch of kudos to FIDEs response. I think all is well that ends well. Most importantly, it’s good for the whole community. Cheers to both parties.
This was a tense game, but it almost looks like Magnus played Neiman in a risky tactic, which would only work with somebody as calm as Magnus against somebody as confident as Neiman. Neiman dominated the opening without over-extending, but this gave him too much enthusiasm. The midgame is where Magnus exposed Neiman's confidence as his flaw. So many moves Neiman missed because he didn't want to "drop back" pieces. That retreat of the queen to D2 "looks like you're dropping the pawn." Pawn E5, "I've got the world blitz champion on the ropes!". This refusal to give ground for a confident push is what Magnus was waiting for. That king march at the end of the mid-game also reveals this weakness. Neiman was too ambitious. Magnus was waiting for his confidence to betray him. And thus, by the time the end-game came, the tables had turned. Neiman was constantly on the run, holding on desperately to find an opening. You can almost tell Neiman realized the error of his ways. He started playing much more cautiously and nearly came back to win, but now he was playing Magnus' game. Neiman would have dominated this comeback with a slightly weaker opponent, but Magnus is the king of the endgame.
I heard it’s because the loser of the match didn’t put his king in the center of the board after the game, which is apparently customary. So Magnus did both
Hans is getting better month by month, sooner than we think he'll be able to challenge Magnus consistently, Magnus needs to be knocked down by someone, he's becoming too powerful and tyrannical.
Let’s digest this for a second at 3:44 The 🐐 had 23secs VS 2mins 17secs…and at the end of the game, The 🐐 ended up with 25secs 😳 He went all the way down to 23secs just to troll !! 🤭
Why 27months? Carlsen already played Hans over the board this year either in Champion tour final or in Speed chess championship final (in Toronto?). Magnus won with big advantage then.
I don't get why the players resign when there is so few seconds on the clock. Why not just continue till the bitter end? That would be a more satisfying ending, at least from a spectator perspective. In most cases it would take less than a minute to finish it off, so it's not like in classical chess where you can argue that the players should reserve some energy for later battles. I think we could see some nice dramas (call it blunders) once in a while if the players had to continue playing under extreme time pressure. There are several things that could and should be changed in chess. I don't know why it doesn't happen. Some of it is quite obvious and wouldn't have any significant downsides if it was implemented.
The FIDE turnaround is why I posted that without Magnus I wasn’t interested. FIDE only had to see such a sentiment just so many times before they got the message. When FIDE got too heavy-handed with Kasparov he just left FIDE and created the PCA.
