  • An athlete’s career can either change and culminate or been destroyed for a few inches, for a few tenths of a second, for a fleeting glance of a referee, for an unpredictable shifting of the wind. Respectively, the journalist is obliged to meet demanding deadlines, to keep delicate balances, to be conciliatory, to compromise the incompatibilities. And then, the traveler is required to open their horizons and unlock locked eyes, if they wish to live a journey rather than a mere tourist trip. At all levels of our lives, uncertainty is the only certainty. With these uncertainties will deal the journalist and writer, Nikos Papadogiannis, on TEDxPatras 2019 stage.
Visit TEDxPatras at www.tedxpatras..... Nikos Papadogiannis has been involved in journalism for 32 years. He is mainly interested in basketball-relative reportage, but he often blogs about travelling, political issues and music. He has traveled to more than 60 countries for work or leisure. His first book, “Nick is Missing”, which is about his travels, was released in 2018 by “Key Books”. He collaborates with the website www.gazzetta.gr and the Documento newspaper. Born in 1966, he studied Classical Philology, without ever becoming a philologist. He lives in Athens and you’ll probably meet him at Bruce Springsteen concerts. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Papadogiannis is a skilful journalist, especially in relation to basketball matters, but he comes across as a ''die-hard'' Vasilakopoulos supporter, and that is damaging his public image, in my opinion. Vasilakopoulos is an 81 year old ''big wig'' within Greek basketball, he has been around for what feels like a million years and currently he is the president of the Greek Basketball Association. The standard of Greek Basketball has been declining steadily over a number of years, and that's largely down to poor leadership - the president appears to be completely out of touch with the current strategic, business and technological developments, so change is needed now more than ever. There is a number of journalists who never criticize Vasilakopoulos - or if they do it, it's rare, inconsistent and superficial. Journalists like Papadogiannis, need to push towards that change, not discourage it!
