    Y’all are excellent partners, I just love this! I grew up in coos bay, Oregon, and the BEST friends were always the ones willing to hit the abandoned logging roads or sand dunes!😁❤️

    yeah that sketched me out. haha im not used to that sorta thing. i had a good spotter and that helped but man that freaked me out. lol im happy to be on the other side of it now. my subsequent trips have been.. flatter. lol

      Haha, yeah that's fair. I know a lot of people who HATE shelf-roads and drop-offs like that (and avoid them at all costs)

    My wife and i took our 100 series through the washout years ago while doing the bdr, pictures definitely do not do it justice😮

    • @WheretoNextOverland
      @WheretoNextOverland  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, that's for sure! Plus, the washout was much gnarlier 4-5 years ago the first time I did it. Seems like it has been "built up" a little bit since.

    Small challenge is probably a better term to use. I followed one in our group in a JK 2-door stick shift pulling an Adventure Trailer loaded down for the week. He hit it with no problem.

    • @WheretoNextOverland
      @WheretoNextOverland  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I mean, it's not hard. Have done it like 4 times now (between motorcycles and trucks) .... but it still probably qualifies as the sketchiest part of the WABDR.
      We've done sketchier stuff, but the WABDR is pretty tame. (On a bike, babyhead hill is the REAL challenge on the WABDR)

    • @chublez
      @chublez 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yea I towed my M1101 behind a full size Silverado through no problem. All the videos of WABDR make this section out to be a big deal though as its basically the only thing more than fire road and bumpy/rocky road that you might need a chainsaw on. Also I think most people just don't have any real concept of just how far offroad a 4x4 is really capable of going, you're almost always going to run out of traction before anything flips over unless yer driving like a real hooligan.

    The spot you camped at on section 4 was a spot we stopped at a long time ago when doing this section, it was craaaazy windy, but just on the other side of the mountain we found a spot that was somehow way less windy. It was wild

    • @WheretoNextOverland
      @WheretoNextOverland  ปีที่แล้ว

      We almost camped on a ridge which, according to Gaia, was called 'Roaring Ridge'. We noped out. Have learned over time that spots get names like that FOR A REASON. Haha

    My wife and I did the whole Washington BDR in our Tundra last August. The washouts were a little scary! On the drop down to Lake Chellan, I did not see the by-pass and ended up on the ATV shelf road in a full size truck! That was a scary section!

    • @WheretoNextOverland
      @WheretoNextOverland  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ooooh. Yeah, the Jungle in a full size truck would be a bit sketchy haha. I bet you got some nice pinstripes from it too haha

  • @thedarkslide
    @thedarkslide 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    10:32 "not that bad" - And I would agree. It's not that bad. The only thing that makes it "sketchy" is the consequence of fucking it up with the cliff so close, but the technical difficulty of getting through it itself is not that bad with a BDR capable vehicle.

    • @WheretoNextOverland
      @WheretoNextOverland  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Totally. I still maintain it is the sketchiest thing on the WABDR .... but that's just because the WABDR is so time. On 2 wheels, baby head hill takes the cake though. (I've eaten shit there on a moto haha).

      @@WheretoNextOverland Probably the Northernmost section, is that five? Reason being partly nostalgia for my youth: I worked there for DNR in my first job out of college. Also I did it in the fall when the aspens and the larches were golden. Beautiful!

    I need to do section 4, I've only done section 2 and 3 so far but now that things are settling down I should be able to get out more for stuff in my state Washington. More times than not when I go somewhere it's out of state so I've done more dirt in each of these states Utah, Nevada, California, Arizona and Colorado than my own state. Going to have to do that soon if I'm going to do it this year, cold nasty weather is on it's way and while I don't mind snow it's the mud I hate. I guess that's a sign of getting old, in my youth I looked for mud but these days I dread cleaning up afterwards and I bring a dog with me now so sleeping with a muddy Husky is not a good plan.

    • @WheretoNextOverland
      @WheretoNextOverland  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahaha. Yeah .... muddy Husky is no Bueno! Keep an eye out for the next video (goes live this Thursday) because that one is all about Section 4 (which is an AWESOME section of the WABDR)

  • @slandshark

    Is that sketchy section of WABDR 3 part of the Alt route that sort of bypasses Wenatchee? We are likely doing Section 3 this year on the way to the Overland Expo, but wasn't sure how bad the Alt route is (we like a challenge...as long as it's safe). Thanks!

    • @WheretoNextOverland
      @WheretoNextOverland  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The washouts are south of the Wenatchee bypass, so there's not really an easy way to avoid them along Section 3. That said, they honestly aren't that bad these days. They can look a bit intimidating, but they aren't that bad.
      Maybe we'll see you at Expo!
