    You'r on the right track but if you want to get a better BTU transfer from the exhaust to the copper coil you need to get that insulation away from the copper coil so the exhaust can flow ALL over the surface of the copper. You can buy that ceramic blanket in a rigid board for the same money and cut it in one inch wide strips. Take three of those strips and place them at 120 degrees apart in the cylinder then slide in the coil. Shoot for a nice snug fit. Now you have a much better exhaust flow around the coil so you can transfer more heat rather than trying to pick up a few degrees here and there after the horse has left the barn. Dont forget to wrap the outside of the exhaust tank as now you have a real heat exchanger.

    Thanks for the great DIY video . Those bearing sea dudes insulated there hose going to there wet suit also. That might help retain water temp.

      It's tough to do that in a river that has a current. The insulation will float and drag the line to strongly. Also if you dive deep the insulation will make the air line be constantly pulled towards the surface making it severely uncomfortable. A thick rubber hose works the best considering.

    Bang-up Job Bryan! Sweeet! You packed a lot of great ideas in this DIY unit. For approx $100 bucks build, you can't get any better than that!

    I have built several of these set ups. Zip tie pipe insulation on your water hose going to your suit. just leave a short section to go in your suit. It floats keeping the hose out of the water and out of your way. Zip tie your air line to it and you will not have as many lines to deal with ( air line, blaster hose & heater hose ) Less hassle and safer . I wear a 2 piece suit and as a safety Precaution I put the hose between the layers. You can get burnt very bad and very quick with these set ups if your water to the heater stops or is to slow. Several have had 3rd degree burns in a mater of seconds. Be safe tune it in and enjoy free hot water.

      Thanks for the tips. I will give the insulation a try. Also I should zip tie all my cords together to keep organized, but I don't always need a blaster or hot water so I always neglect to do it, lol. Thanks for watching!

    Great tip on not putting the exhaust tube straight up!

    • @AmericanGoldProspectors
      @AmericanGoldProspectors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! I have been using this setup all summer. I notice a lot of condensation water coming out of the drain hole I put at the bottom. Thats water that would have went into the motor if it was straight up.

    I love this idea when I'm building my dredge which I'm about halfway through I'm going to use this very idea that you did and so I can keep myself warm and I can stay in there a little bit longer when I go to dredging up stuff where we're at up here in Idaho the water gets down around 30 even in the summer when it's nice and toasty outside water gets down around 30 may be colder than that I haven't really checked it yet but I'm going to copy your idea if that's okay

    What about putting another water hose "over" the existing heater hose ? That way, the cold water will be hitting the water hose and "not" the heater hose giving the hot water more time to hit your suit before cooling down and would at least give you around 85* to 90* going into your suit. Just a thought. 🤔 Let me know if you try it out. Great in depth details by the way. 👍👏👏

      Yes, I'm sure that would help to insulate it more. Or maybe they sell better insulated hose somewhere. I'm not really sure. I just used what I had laying around the garage. Thanks for watching!

    do you still use the mixing tank as a holding tank even though you say you don't need to mix the hot and cold?

    • @AmericanGoldProspectors
      @AmericanGoldProspectors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. I use it as a steam tank encase a problem happens in the system somewhere.

      I build one , video on my channel, after one day using it I removed the cold water mixing, it’s not needed , I kept small piece of pvc like a steam chamber in case , works great , I may add insulation when it get colder

  • @truckergare

    Do you need a mixing tank ? Eliminate the garden hose y, it will restrict water flow. Put a big shut off before it enters your wet suit.

    What do people generally connect too and use down the front of their wetsuit? How does the water escape through what type of apparatus? Does the apparatus create zero back pressure or unrestricted flow of hot water? Please explain.

      @@AmericanGoldProspectors but still an open end hose so the water still flows through, right? Would also punching holes throughout it help diverse the warm water? How long is the hose that goes down the front?
      I really appreciate the feedback.
      Thanks again guys and all the best out there

    • @AmericanGoldProspectors
      @AmericanGoldProspectors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JasonAlexzander1q47 I use an open end on the hose. About 20 feet. You can make holes it it if you want, but you would have to plug up the end to build some pressure, I would think.

      Miles Mitchell when scuba dive in the atlantic ocean, in Maine, we would fill gallon milk jugs full of boiling water and when we got around to getting in we would dump the comfortably hot water down into our suits. It took the shock of cold water flushing in first. It takes a while for the colder water to remove the hot water so it gave more time before hyperthermia got to the bones.
      Would use the warm water left over to dump down after to get warmed back up.
      I have never had the chance to dredge under water in fresh water so this is interesting to me also.
