Nice! I'm a part time stage set carpenter in the PHX metro area, I work at the resorts putting together rock-n-roll set ups in the ballrooms. Started in the high school theater productions like you. I like the non union AZ market. Now I do a little remodel work in the Prescott area for the summer months, staging in the concrete jungle of phx during the winter months and then if a hurricane makes land fall I hit the road and apply my construction skills as an independent catastrophe insurance adjuster! Dig your story, you feel like my wise old uncle!! Set carpenter jokes! Yep so true! I was in construction before, so I became a valuable asset for my pimp!!
Had woodshop 7-8th grade. Then 12th. Made so many things. Teacher always had me helping the girls. While he handled the guys that couldn’t follow instructions. 😊. Took Home Ec…. In 9th grade. Teacher hated me. Till she learned I could fix all the sewing machines. And could cook. 😂
I grew up on a farm, same shit! Except you ran from it, and found cool stuff! Then you realized who you are. I felt ashamed of being a farmer, because nobody else was as my friends. I watched my friends do all the things. I did stuff too, but I am still a farmer
Once again you may call these "RANTS" but this is how it goes in life. I love work rants. You have to have a prospective from others to learn how to get along with one another.
At least when you build something now it will last forever. I left television news in the eighties. I was pressured to join the Union and didn't want to. Plus there was an old producer who seemed nice one minute and then he'd yell at me the next for no reason. But George Putnam was super nice. A real professional and classy guy 100%.
I could not live in the city... I try to get along with neighbors but I get along by not really doing no more than waving and just knowing enough about them to know their pet's name and nothing more.
Great hearing this story brotha. I used to watch that brothers Garcia show when I was a kid. Too bad they didn’t wave the initiation fees when a show turned union. I was fortunate to be working on a show that flipped union and they waved the fees to get into the editors union.
Mike skills must be from your ancestors building that Trojan horse! What was the name of that English actress who lived with Glenn Ford, he was ian nteresting character. Cheers from England
Nice to hear your life experiences on your through your existence on planet earth. I can relate with a lot of what your talking about. The unions now-a-days are not what they use to be. They are a lot weaker in my opinion. Your life stories are addictive and it just wants me to hear more. Haha thanks for sharing 👍
Yup,similar experience. They don’t care. Your slave labor. The 40 hour work week is nothing to them. Life is a marathon, pace yourself it’s not a sprint.
I'm a member of IATSE 212 since 2013 up in Canada, and almost everything you said is true for the industry up here as well. Expect that there is an overwhelming amount of carps that are conservative ( Canadian equivalent of Republicans ) But the rest of the crew is typically hard leaning left libs. I rarely work in the industry now, although I get asked to jump on crews often. The cronyism and politicking make me sick to my stomach. And now, as if the industry wasn't already lacking qualified hard working skilled people who earn their spots, they've adopted that dei garbage. So it's likely to only get worse.
Well, wait a minute, dude, you grew up in Patterson New Jersey so did II went to school number 5 done Jasper street.I moved out of patterson when I was seven years old up to west wilford at seventy two
Her neighbors sound like Tweakers, for sure! How miserable it must be living next to nuts- so fortunate we have wonderful neighbors! Great work on that back yard!!

Your Buddy Sabo got mentioned on America's Untold Stories today by Mark Groubert.
I am definitely watching your channel for a bunch of different reasons. That's hilarious. I will keep watching.

Not surprised it's gotten worse...

You are the new Jonathan Goldsmith.

thanks again.
That's like the Armorer on the Rust movie set. Probably a liberal union hire based on DEI who didn't know jack shit about gun safety.
That's the one gig, if I could get it, that I'd go back into film for
Do you realize you are eventually going to require total knee replacement on the knee that you had arthroscopic surgery on?
@@CheesePuff-t2e It's been over 20 years and I'm still fine - My left knee needs to be looked at, though
