      ❤ Hello Rachel ❤
If you do end up deciding to redo the epoxy sculpt parts may I make a suggestion? I think the design would look more "complete" or "cohesive" if the wood headrest went down all the way to the seat instead of only floating on the headrest. Mind you I am thinking about the Pinterest examples you showed us while making this suggestion so I hope you do not mind my suggestion.
I really appreciate you doing this project and showing us how you did it because I plan to do my chair now using the pattern making idea you did. I have been struggling with ideas of how to redo my chair fabric and you have shown me a way that is easier/less expensive for me. Thank you again for your inspiration from a long time subscriber.

I actually thought she would combine the corduroy with the lighter flowery fabric.
But then again, the other corduroy also looks really nice.
I am just working on an underskirt where I had a similar problem (have been felling seams while watching this video): I've sewn a skirt out of a weirdly cut tunic style shirt that an elderly woman gave me, and decided it needed an underskirt for a variety of reasons.
Then I found a piece of linen-viscose mix in the bargain bin at the department store and it was the right weight and type of fabric to go well with the skirt. I thought it was just enough for an underskirt, so I bought it.
While cutting out the pieces I realized that it was just short of enough, and then I also made a stupid mistake and cut some pieces wrongly.
So I took another, coarser linen and made the back part of the underskirt out of that, but also cut that shorter and attached a wide band of the finer fabric to it. So, you will only see the good fabric peeking out from under the skirt and nobody will know it is a mix. ^ ^
I can even justify it by saying I made the part you're sitting on from a sturdier fabric and one that also doesn't yellow because it's already unbleached. Lol.
Anyway, I have to make a whole bunch more seams now because the back is all pieced together.

As someone who has worked professionally with 2-part epoxies, a word of advice on the bad cure situation: Try and lock it in a stuffy room with a lot of windows on a warm day, but not directly in the sun. Shut the vents, windows, and door and let it "cook" in there from dawn to dusk. I've had epoxies interact with the plastic in the mixing cup and mess up the curing process and have salvaged them with a chemistry oven set to 100F. *Gentle* ambient heat can sometimes encourage hardening just enough to push it into the acceptable range. I emphasize gentle ambient heat because things like a heat gun or direct sunlight can absolutely ruin your hard work by making the epoxy crack, discolor, or otherwise degrade. Your work is beautiful. I'd hate to see you having to scrape it off because you were just a tad too impatient with something as infuriatingly fussy as 2-part epoxy.
Edit: Another solution that comes to mind is coating the bad clay in something like spray-on bedliner, which will put a tough, hardened shell around the clay. It will still have a bit of squish, but shouldn't be sticky or prone to denting anymore.

Smol tip for the apoxie sculpt from someone who has been on the doll making battlefield with it, try mixing it in small batches! It'll be easier to knead and you will have an easier time seeing if all of it is mixed together enough. Also, get a kitchen scale and weigh out equal amounts of the two parts. Also also, if you have a rolling pin you can roll the epoxy thin, fold it in half and roll it thin again. Do this 15-20 times and your epoxy will be well mixed.

@@BrokenDarkFire have curage. sewing is not that hard. especially with an object cover where it absoutely does not matter what the inside looks like. tip for figuring it out: take paper (cheap package paper, the big roles. or paper for covering the floor when you paint a wall...) and put it on your chair. then you can, surface by surface, draw the shape of the chair's textile parts. pins help to keep things in place. painter's tape is a quick way to connect them and figure out closures. and when you have cut off just a bit too much of the piece of paper, painter's tape is a quick way to add that bit of surface again or connect paper. with velcro you need overlapping parts somewhere so the back can open... paper and painter's tape. then futz around and find out. I use this method frequently at work.

I use apoxie sculpt all the time for fossil restoration! It's pretty normal to not end up with evenly used tubs despite best efforts. If sculptures don't cure in eight hours or more (cold temps can slow it down) you should redo it. You can also gently microwave the a and b side separately and it makes mixing waaayy easier and speeds up curing time! Good luck!

Unfortunately, scales don't work. They want you to mix by volume for epoxy clays. One component is significantly heavier than the other and if you went by weight it would be off.
You can make equal sized balls like the instructions say, or I find equal sized discs easier. Just draw a disc on a sheet of wax paper and roll it out to the desired thickness. Cut it using a craft knife. Add a dab of acrylic black paint and smash the two discs together. You'll know they're fully mixed once you can't see anymore black paint swirls. The paint doesn't seem to affect the curing that I've found at any rate.

For the apoxie sculpt, (and if you did this but it just wasn't in the clips you used feel free to ignore me) it's a little easier to get even amounts and mix it more evenly if you roll out the two parts into logs first - i personally find it easier to judge the proportions that way, and then you can twist the logs around each other a bunch of times and get a head start on making sure both parts are evenly distributed (also I second the comment someone else made about adding a dab of pigment naking it easier to judge when everything's mixed)

I had to laugh when you were talking about the carved wooden details, but not, like on Victorian furniture. It's not usually wood on Victorian furniture either, so you're probably closer than you think! Those details are usually made out of a substance called compo/composite, and if you look for "composition ornaments" you can actually buy modern replicas for not too much. They're steamed for a short time, which makes them flexible, and activates the glue that helps form them, and put into place. Then they would be stained or gilded appropriately, and you'd never know they weren't actual wood. Useful stuff, if you have a need for fanciness but no sculpting skills!

I love that you say something silly, tell yourself not to say it, and then put it in the video anyway. impeccable energy.

You are an inspiration and a delight and I love how you just plan it out, jump in and create magic. Thank you so much for your videos.

You are an inspiation to me. Thanks to you, I realized that I am an adult that owns her own home and can do anything se wants within its walls (as long as my husband is semi on board, he has opinions too)

I'm someone who actually likes the generic gaming chair aesthetic, but as soon as you finished this & sat in it I was like "well, this chair is perfect." It really does totally match you, and I love the embroidery details.

I'm really just in awe that every single thing you do is something I've been like 'man I wish I could do something like ___' and then think 'nah, that's absurd. No one would ever upholster and embroider a gaming chair to make it look like it belongs in a Victorian mansion'. And then you just... have the same thought and DO IT?? Like ma'am??? Truly miraculous.

Omg this video perfectly encapsulates my feelings about so much modern design- in their efforts to appeal to more people, designers have made stuff that appeals to no one bc it has no character. Absolutely love the chair!

Some days ago I thought that gaming chairs are comfy, but at the same time they totally ruin any vibe of the room they're in. Et voila. You covered your chair and made it match your room. XD
