    There is no need for Tesla to boost the semi range. Replace the short haul semis with EVs first. By the time the short haul semis are mostly EVs the nationwide charging infrastructure for semis will be mostly in place. By that time, improved or new battery and motor designs will provide 30 to 50+% more range at the same weight. Fuel and maintenance savings alone will propel the switch.

    Cost, payload and axle load.
    The reason to move to Berlin probably has more to do with range of travel than to supplier/production capacity.
    In America we travel 1000 miles just to visit Grandma on a weekend and semis cross a continent weekly, plus in pretty much half this continent size country, during the winter the semis stay all night with engines on due to HVAC needs.
    You can do that on a Semi Ev if you are not concerned about paying to work but to have a profitable proposition with an EV truck, you need to go short distance and light on battery weight therefore Europe.

    The greatest thing on the fly switching from the truck battery to the solor powered trailor battery pack . You need a 120,000 GVWR capacity on both tractor and trailor , simply means addig a extra axel to the truck and trailer. When the nattery pack is getting low on the truck switch over to the battery pack on the trailer then it switches simultaneously to start charging the truck with the roof solor panels until you get to your destination and do you two hour charge on the truck / trailer

    One thing Tesla could do is make an axillary battery that could be carried in the trailer that could boost range.
    Thus one can trade range for freight payload and use some of the freight payload to carry the auxiliary battery to get greeter range, e.g. give up 20% payload to get significantly more range.

    This truck is pretty innovative and a technological marvel. But that's where it ends. I think most people that have favourable comments on it haven't driven semi for any appreciable length of time. This design may work well for certain dedicated routes. However, the average freight hauler will find the center seat configuration impractical. They need to interact with security gates at many terminals, warehouses, and distribution centers, providing ID and documentation. Climbing in and out of that cab is inconvenient and a time waster compared to rolling down the driver side window. Many gate houses are designed with high service windows for this reason. This may even force someone ro come out of the gatehouse to interact with the driver at ground level. Scales have the button pad at driver window height. Getting out of the truck will put the button pad out of reach, forcing the driver to walk all the way across the lot to go inside, thus delaying those behind the Tesla. They may have designed it "around the driver". But that's like saying a straight jacket is designed for a snug and close fit. There are so many other things that would annoy me to no end. Personally, I would refuse to drive one.

    If governments were really concerned with global warming, they would be making plans for things like rail build out and infrastructure build out. One train with lets say 100 cars could carry 200+ trailers. That would be two hundred EV trucks / diesel trucks off the road. This would be far better to move freight than using semis driving from state to state for long haul. There was a study done that its going to cost over $1T to make EV trucks work in the USA. EV's trucks aren't the answer, rail to move freight is. Or even container ships, that can haul 22,000 TEU's in a single voyage. That is a lot of trucks off the road at the expense of a single ship running on LNG. Need to think out side the trailer box here for real solutions to the problem. EV's aren't going to solve this issue.

    As a 36 year experienced driver (retired now), this is a fascinating idea. Based on this recent winters display of EV's batteries not holding a full charge or not charging at all and your "test bed" area being in southern Nevada (?), it is an idea that is not yet ready for full implementation. The one problem I see is that ALL EV's should be able to charge themselves as they are in motion, and so far, non do so. The other major problem is winter and the possible extreme cold temperatures. Unfortunately batteries and cold temps do not work well together. The idea is intriguing though... Interesting. Thank you.

    • @darwinboor1300
      @darwinboor1300 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Cold is an issue for both EVs and for ICE vehicles. With ICE vehicles you plug in a block warmer. With EVs you charge at the end of a run while the battery is still warm not after the battery has cooled down to ambient temperatures. Then you prewarm the battery before its next use. For the semi, the power for prewarming could come from a 110 VAC wall connection leaving a full battery for hauling. For cars the power for prewarming comes from your home charger or from your battery. Yes this takes forethaught but who really wants to stand in the cold and wind to fill your vehicle with flammable fluids. Plug in, go into the truckstop, take a shower, eat, and your truck is ready for the next leg. Unplug, pull up to an overnight spot, plug into 110, and get some sleep. If there is a line at the charger, get in line, do your things inside, then charge when your truck tells you the truck in front is moving.

    Semi Trucks in Europe have to be more powerful than in America. Because in Europe they are always going up and down mountain ranges wherever they go. Also they need shorter cabs due to a lot of tight turn older roads and twisty winding roads. Also the environment is colder and snowy in the north and hot and sultry in the south.
    So European standards are set for the conditions which exist in Europe, and height ( determined by tunnels) weight (determined by road strength) length ( determined by older cities and roads) power ( determined by road slope) are not going to change, for American standards based on flat wide interstates.
    Tesla will just have to meet the Engineering challenges as they exist.

    It makes no sense . The electric battery for big trucks takes up to much weight . You would need 3 EV trucks to haul the same cargo as one diesel truck because of weight limits for trucks on roads . 0-60 mph on a delivery vehicle does not matter . It is simply this the EV battery takes up 2 tons of weight that could be used for cargo . So now you have to buy
    Insure and upkeep and house more vehicles. Additional drivers…. All that companies will ask is what is the price per pound to deliver goods . With upkeep insurance maintenance all of it included. The minute EV Trucks cost 1 penny less to run than diesel the money will flood in .

    • @miguellopez3392
      @miguellopez3392 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It makes no sense because you have poor comprehension. Tesla semi truck can move 21tons at a full legal load, has is that 1/3 that of a regular semi truck???
      0-60 matters when entering a highway ramp, passing traffick, or going uphill, going uphill at 55mph saves you a lot of time compared to 35mph.
      90% of trucks don't haul full weight loads on a average day.
      Cost of maintenance and service on the tesla semi truck is about half of that as a diesel, and you save 300% on fuel, the reasons companies don't buy them right now is because they would first have to build multi million doller charging systems at their delivery sites, basically, EV semi trucks already demolish diesel on running cost but not initial investment cost, companies are much less prone to long term strategies so tesla has to prove the tech through using themselves, they already being used for logistic runs between Nevada and California.

    We are at 0.041% atmospheric co2 just double the level at which plant life dies 0.02%.

    The Tesla Semi has a great design of cabin. Don't change it to suit some Euro bureaucrat's antagonistic whim !

    • @garytulie8567
      @garytulie8567 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's not the reason. All European trucks have a different shape to US versions as they are "cab over engine" rather than "cab behind engine" to optimise length - shorter legal limits so the US version would substantially reduce load volume.

    Well sure... but what will governments do once they lose all the tax money from gasoline and diesel?? The roads still need maintaining, so I guess the yearly taxes on OWNING a car will skyrocket..... no??
    Or charging prices will triple once diesel is no longer legally an option?? Same for gasoline cars, once they become illegal, will electric charging double triple, for taxes??

      That's 1 major reason I'll never give up my truck. Which is not to say I'm not going to own a Tesla. I'll be one of the first in line for the Model 2 in fact I'm looking forward to it, I'm just saying I'll always maintain mi ICE truck until the day I die. Then my kids can fight for it. Have a great day everyone!

      In thirty some American states, like mine, EV owners are charged a special annual fee, to make up for the fact that they don't pay gasoline tax, on top of all other vehicle registration fees. (My state even charges this for PHEVs.)

      That's right... with gasoline cars you pay THAT tax bc the amount go gasoline you buy is a good indicator of how much you use the roads you need for daily life or travel.
      But with EVs they don't know, so I IMAGINE they have to hit you hard ANYWHERE you charge.
      My best guess for savings on charging would be to have solar panels, and charge at home, if one charge give you at least 300 miles, most people don't drive over 50 miles daily. and top it off daily with solar... but if solar panels are in much demand, their prices will....

    The Semi-truck driver is visually too vulnerable or too exposed in relation to the projectile wind, the driver is placed as a target element or weakens his reaction speed in the face of possible danger...(NIGHT TORCH?).
    The place in the center is anti-friendly or dedicated as if the driver could be crowded there, in spite of himself...
    Revolutionary for the large fleet of trucks of this type of ultra-economical concept.
    The concept of great interior transparency, seen from the outside, lowers the modularity/interior customization ratio possible for many buyers from all walks of life.
    With such low ground clearance because of the wheels.
    The driver's cabin risks too many shocks and repairs because of the size of the windshields which are much too wide, dipping too low, like a giant cart without anti-gravel protection perched at 2m-2.5m, minimum height.
    Apart from that, the heavy truck of this brand performs well in terms of consumption efficiency and above all maintenance with its unbeatable price in addition. So congratulations to the new concept of the brand, and its future variants.

    According to EU Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 truck drivers should lake a break of 45min every 4.5 hours and not drive for longer then 9 hours. This means a range of just 350miles will more then cover. Other modification for Europe will be the scrapping of those enormous mirrors to be replaced by cameras.

    Sorry Tesla Fans, the Tesla Semi isn’t the future. This prototype hybrid diesel/electric truck is made for the real world, especially for off road use like logging. Edison Motors built their prototype in one year using off the shelf components and their design philosophy includes the right to repair.
    The very first load moved by this prototype was over 100,000 lbs something the Tesla Semi isn’t designed to do.
    Edison is also working on a retrofit kit for older pickups that will be for trucks that are used for hauling and work unlike the Cybertruck

      Lol Edison motors can't compete with the tesla semi trucks scalability, retrofitting things into EVs cost more than just using it as fossils or straight EV, but saves massive on needing custom manufacturing equipment... equipment that would be useful for mass manufacturing.
      Full EV drive trains are better for offroading and high loads than hybrid systems, the tesla model X once towed a 260,000lb passenger plane. The tesla semi uses plaid motors which are even better for trucking than any other RV motor made as they spin up to higher RPMs and maintain far more torque at higher RPMs, makes it a real torque monster.
      Tesla cybetruck is a truck I would use in light duty work, and I would like it since I don't have to wory about dents or scratched paint, might haul loads with it for jobs inside the state but not out.
