Yamaha 2000 Series Audiophile Networking Receiver & Tower Speakers Overview

  • We were very honored to welcome Mr. Susumu Kumazawa (Product Manager for Yamaha Hi-Fi Japan) and Phil Shea (Content Development Manager), to ‪@Audioholics‬ so they could give us a technical overview and demo of Yamaha's new 2000 series of hi-fi components which include the R-N2000A Stereo Networking Receiver and NS-2000A high performance tower speakers. Yamaha says that the R-N2000A is made for “audiophiles with analog aspirations and digital desires" and we believe it. From its balanced floating amplifier design with massive torodial power supply and 4x capacitor bank, to the top ESS 9026 Pro DACs and quality phono stage, this receiver means business. Conservatively rated at 90 watts/ch 8-ohm and 150 watts/ch 4-ohm (both channels driven) this nearly 50lbs receiver is ready to play with their new NS-2000A speakers. The NS-2000A are a 4-driver, 3-way tower featuring Zylon fiber blend for all drivers and borrowed technologies from their NS-5000 flagship speakers.

I own a Yamaha R-N2000A. Very very good sound quality. Top notch. Built to last. But I have a couple of suggestions maybe for the next iteration:
    1. Color OLED screen. C'mon Yamaha, it is 2023. A color screen would have been really nice.
    2. Bigger VU Meters. I love them, but VU Meters a la AS-3200 would have been genius. And also faster VU meters, as these are a little slow.
    3. Interchangeable side panels. Why not allowing us to purchase different color/material ones if we choose so and change them as we see fit?
    4. Balanced inputs. I know that would have risen the overall cost, but maybe in a future R-N3000A series?
    5. Add search/sort function to Musicast app. To my shock, the app does not have a search function. So having like some hundreds of tracks in my playlist leaves you with endless scrolling trying to find out where your favorite track is.

This is so badass! I love everything about this receiver. The dynamic management of the equal loudness curves and a loudness knob! Awesome!
    The hdmi input.
    The classic styling.
    The toroid flanked by heatsinks.
    An oled display.
    This thing is fantastic!
90 watts is interesting, I see allot of “130w” advertised receivers are actually 90w when you read the fine print.
When i lookup the specs of various second hand gear I see 90 watts is very common and I wonder why that is, maybe this is an engineering target related to synergy with Japanese architectural norms and their housing environments, or perhaps the physics of output transistors just favor 90 watts as a threshold for clean output.
Loved seeing the pics of Yamahas tuning technologies on the speakers, just like KEF’s meta backwave resonators, although Yamaha has been working with these ideas long before kef ever brought them out. I would really like to see Yamaha’s ACP-2 panels come back around, those were so cool!

    • @Audioholics

This receiver will easily do 100wpc and the thing about it that separates it from most wimpy AV receivers is it's ability to drive low impedance loads. I have found amps that can handle low impedance tend to sound larger than they are even when driving 8 ohm speakers. more on this later.

what I don't understand was they have USB but they decided to go with the very antiquated and outdated USB type-B connector which though it's been "somewhat" of a "standard" type of rear I/O on these dac equipped integrated amps/receivers (McIntosh has been using those for years and I think still uses them), I'd think that using the much newer and higher bandwidth USB Type-C connector and make the USB port a high speed USB 3.1 or even 3.2 would have been a much better choice.

Why do these OEM's continue to use the old as hell USB 2.0 B connectors instead of USB C? It's not just Yamaha. Grrrrr.

Haaa. The 5th foot, LOL. The 5th foot on my Yamaha CX-A 5200 doesn't even touch where it sits like the other normal 4 corner feet. I can slide a note card under it with no friction. We audiophiles really, really want to believe all sorts of fiction. LOL.

I think the 5th foot is there because the transformer sits in the chassis like a rock, and instead of having it suspended like a hammock on 4 corners, they put a foot directly underneath it. Which helps prevent bowing and sagging of the chassis. Maybe it’s a little shorter by design. Or maybe your surface has some bowing to it. My wooden tv stand has a bit of sag.

      @waynert3548 ปีที่แล้ว

@@SwirlingDragonMist it's on a perfectly flat surface. The xformer in this particular AV processor is small & light. At least in this model's case, it's audiophony non-sense. But hey, anyone can believe what ever they want, right? I miss those Gene and Hugo myth debunking videos.

@@waynert3548 well you can blame any number of reasons why the foot doesn’t touch, but you can’t blame the foot ha ha
