John Meadows is an American professional bodybuilder and entrepreneur with an intriguing story. While John now boasts a successful career as an IFBB Pro bodybuilder and fitness company owner, his journey towards the top was extremely difficult.
Growing up, John never met his father, and his mother died at an extremely young age. This meant John only had his grandmother to take care of him. When his grandmother tragically passed away in 1999, John was left alone without his family to support him.
As the years went by, John continued to face new adversities in his life. During his early days in bodybuilding, John suffered from a rare colon disease. After fighting the disease for several months, his colon burst - almost resulting in his death. Luckily, John was quickly rushed to an emergency room where his life was saved. After several months of recovery, John was finally back on his feet.
Coming back into bodybuilding, John used the very obstacles that almost cost him his life as ‘fuel’ to grow stronger. Ever since he recovered from the colon surgery, John has gone on to become a successful bodybuilder, entrepreneur, and inspiration for many people all over the world.

Hey uncle john. I been hittin front and side delts on push day and rear and side delts on pull day. So front and rear are workin twice a week but side delts are workin 4 times a week. Thoughts?
love it!
how about 21 reasons why your legs aren't growing please. help
What you're opinion of pain and click during lateral raise? Thks
Just punished my rear delts yesterday and got a really good workout using your tips. My rear delts were screaming and I haven't felt that in a long time! Thanks for the tips.
Gah. I miss this guy, and I never met him. What a cool dude.
That is really sad news, I only just found this guy the other day on here and was already inspired by him to take my shoulder workout to the next level RIP John
Got the fortune of meeting him a few times, the best was when my wife and I were walking down the street at an outdoor mall and he was walking the same side of the street towards us and I was totally caught off guard because it's just not what you're expecting of course. Even later at night, with no one else around on the outskirts of Easton, he was the most friendly person you'd ever meet. As was his wife. The type of people we should all strive to be like.
Oh man sad news indeed 😞
I miss him to bro... : (
100%
RIP John. You may have passed away, but your legend never will!
What happened to him? :(
he passed away in his sleep from a pulmonary embolism
LOVE that John is both a monster but a dad who's encouraging his kids to nerd out.
Ferocity and intelligence make men.
Professor hulk
What a remarkable man! He truly embodied humility. None of his suggestions or advice ever came across as arrogant or carried an "I know better" attitude. I learned so much from him. I only wish I had the chance to meet him in person. Rest in peace to a humble and exemplary human being.
Video: alright hi everybody john meadows here.
My heart: *suddenly feels warm*
Facts. John is my favorite fitness youtuber for exactly that reason. Watchin him reminds of an uncle passing on his knowledge.
The nicest bodybuilder on TH-cam. Or maybe...ever
Nobody can say a bad thing about him. Such a good dude
For a second I thought this was a heart attack joke

I love how all trainers want to charge for Information, who have okay bodies. And with technology these days, we can learn for free from this pro body builder. Who would have thought one day that my personal trainer would be John Meadows!! Free knowledge.
I understand the spirit of what you're saying. When a trainer charges for information it's not a matter of gate keeping and profiting off of the access though, it's an energy exchange between their effort of organizing that information in a way that provides objective results and the work you put into making that extra money to exchange for their services. The information becomes THAT more valuable because you both had to invest a bit of yourself into giving it context and application. Not saying that somebody can't be self driven enough to figure everything out for free (TH-cam, free classes, books), but even the best trainers have paid mentors in the past or exchanged energy with them in some way to find value in that info. The amount of info that John and trainers like him share is amazing though, I'm stoked it's becoming the new normal to be educators rather than salesman! :)
@@AlexKing-md1be well explained
It's just a matter of how studious you are and how much time you have. Can you research, find the information you're looking for, filter out the good from the bad information, and apply it without external support? The average gym novice doesn't even know who John is, let alone what a barbell is for.
Best combination if you need it is a decent trainer in real time combined with information to give you more of a background. i self taught a lot of my training and had decent gains at times but there were gaps in knowledge that i had to fill by ongoing reading and watching and occasionally using a professional
@@Isaiah-ft5nx Definition of a barbell: A button you push on a doorway to gain entrance into a dive bar after hours.🍻🤣
RIP legend. We will forever watch your videos and enjoy your intros!
My god I am going to miss this man. His advice about form and injury prevention is priceless. Especially for us older guys.

Never got the chance to meet you but I watch your videos almost every night (I still do). Even though you’re on the other side, you’re still teaching us. I wish there were words to express the gratitude I have for you and the countless videos you and your team put up. No agenda - just trying to help the next generation of bodybuilders. I’m just so sorry you’re gone…Gonna blow out shoulders extra hard for you tomorrow. Thank you for everything John. Your teachings and wisdom still live on for all of us, EVERYDAY. You touched more lives than you’ll ever know. We all miss you brother. 🙏
The content john put out there is incredible. I'm just a regular weakling, no experience really. Some un-guided with no results. Now i know why. Every video has incredible low term results based help. Thank's to John.
Keep it u everyone, because some day you'll be on the other side too.
Why is buff Mark Hamil interrupting my 21 reasons you can't solve rubix cubes video?
😂
Wahhh 😆
You win the internet today
I couldn't stop laughing when I read this
u got me dying
John wil never die as long we watch hes videos and keep him in ouer hearts.. He was a real viking... And a man to learn from.. Humble, wise, real familyman.. My blessings to hes family... From sweden👍
This is my favorite TH-cam fitness series. Decades of knowledge packed into a short video. Excellent thanks John
I miss John. But he does do a good job of staying around through his videos. Thank you guys for keeping it going!
RIP to the most genuine guy I never met. You showed me that it’s possible to be kind, humble, and a beast at the same time. 🤙🏽
What a awesome video. No bull, no plugs, just a experienced and knowledgeable guy giving loads of helpful information, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
John is the bob ross of bodybuilding he talks smooth and intelligently and makes you want to work out just like bob makes me want to paint 🤙🏾
Anthony Rodriguez hahah so true
We'll put some shoulders here, and make them nice and round
Throwing a dumbell on the toes, and he would say "its a happy accident"
I can listen to John talk for hours on end. And the info is gold.
6:16 I totally agree with John, the number of reps is just a guide and our muscles can't count anyway, they only feel.
O man.. I’ve watched this probably 50 times …and still learning! Mountaindog, John … Thanks for sharing all this knowledge , all these years.. RIP 😢👊❤️💪 …
Your son's smile!! That smile from children when they succeed makes the day. That is what I loved when I was teaching(quit because of the teachers..;))
What a tragic loss. He seemed like such a genuinely humble guy who liked to help others gain success. Thank you for keeping this channel going.
That’s kids so talented I can tell he’s going to be successful when he’s older
We call it skill
his son is really skilled too
anything can happen in life
Just starting watching these vids, this guy is on another level...no ego, no BS, not cocky, not demeaning, not judgemental. He know his craft well enough that he has nothing to prove and lacks the typical BS ego you see in a lot of vids like this...
I've always had smaller shoulders, but I started using the heavy weight partials and the seated front raises about 2 months ago, and have definitely seen gains. Thank you!
What a fountain of knowledge this fella was.
Seemed like a real lovely fella too.
Thanks for the videos.
All the best to the family
John you are an absolute legend man, I’ve had shoulder injuries due to bad form since high school (self taught) everything you just said really explains why I sometimes have pain
RIP Big John
Dudes got a great grasp of how to keep the shoulders healthy without making it complicated; from a PT
thank you! if I mess anything up feel free to correct me!
You sir, generously provide the most honest, valuable and complete non-BS, non-blah-blah, to the point, specialized information than anyone else out there, you're miles ahead all of them! They just eat your dust! This is about the 3d video of yours I'm watching and you have won me over already! I feel grateful to you and I wish you all the luck in your life!
The fastest I ever solved a rubik's cube was 17 seconds.
I've commented in the past about this, and I just love that you are so proud of your son. He's very smart and talented. He would probably have an amazing musical brain as well.
Great job with your gains and career. But, even better job being a great father and showing off your kid. These are the little gems in your videos I look forward to 💪
Jeff Cavaliere's heart got warm at 10:07 - "I'm just not a fan of the behind the neck press"
@Mark Parks best for cracking up your shoulders
it also dropped at the side lateral raises
A third of the way into the video I had already learned more helpful shoulder advice than anybody gave me ever.
👍
Glad to help
Jon is honestly my go to when it comes to anything fitness related. He’s forgot more than people will ever know about fitness and makes everything easy to understand. Thank you so much for great content!!!
Happy with this little TH-cam find! It’s like stumbling across a pot of gold compared to most other workout videos. Cheers!
The first 5 minutes have more information than most of the fitness industry. Love your videos good man especially really enjoyed that commercial break with your kid solving the rubiks cube.
RIP John. Thank God you have so many videos online; its like you never left. You will be missed.
Yoyo and Cube. Doing great Alexander. Thanks for the series John...
you bet!
This is one of if not the best shoulder routine advice I've seen. John is obviously concerned about shoulder damage and how to effectively train them without long term negative impact. I can't imagine why anyone would give this vid a thumbdown but I try not to concern myself with negativity anyway. That's a polite way of saying that there are a lot of idiots watching youtube.
My trainer has me use 5lbs and a LOT of time under tension & my shoulders are popping. Shoulder pain prevents heavy lifting but it's amazing what you can achieve with light weights. She knows what she's doing 💪
Humble, intelligent, grainy and full of great information 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Next one: 21 reasons your quads won't grow. I need that quad sweep John
X2
Need it too!! 💪🏻
Asap!
Just point your feet outwards on leg press, squats and hacks and wait 1-2 years
I find it best to put my feet close together, I feel it burn and pump the outside wayyyy more
Man.. these 21 Reasons videos are absolute gold mines of information!! I agree with his comment about training shoulders first before chest. I usually do a light, high rep set of Arnold presses before bench just to get the engagement as my shoulder joints and anterior delts have always been (working on it) the weakest eccentric point of my bench press.
R.I.P. to an absolute legend. Thanks for passing on powerful knowledge!
It's crazy how talented is your son man! Just like his old man! Thank you for the knowledge I've been training for 10 years and I see younger people doing the same things I did ten years ago, I wish I had advise like yours in the past, it would have saved me many lesions and years of progress.
I appreciate that!
The moment I have learnt that you are no more,I became speechless...you are amazing...you are so gentle and you know you talk about ...you give one the impression that you are the one who knows the body building things inside out...great expertise you bring with with everytime you speak....May you rest in peace...
How to boulder your shoulders with John "Mr. Rogers" Meadows!
Thanks John for all your insights into training! Great ambassador to the fitness community!
RIP big man. For awhile avoided the videos because was hard to watch.. but you'd want everyone to continue learning. Thanks again
The partials on rear and side delts have been a staple of shoulder days since I first saw you do them. The burn is awesome!
I like how he explains it, doesn’t make u feel like a dork when you’re doing it wrong. 👏
Wow, I solve rubrics cube by peeling and resticking the stickers lol
Me too!🤣
An easier way to do that would be to just take it apart and put it back together solved
Or repaint colors lol
Just don't miss it up .. and it's always solved
@Beaujangles McJiggle vitamix or ninja?
As a dad I love the way this man spotlighted his son in his videos. So awesome. Miss you man
Thank you for the knowledge. Legends never die, still learning from you after death.
John im 45 yrs ol.108kg only started liftn st 36.. bn watchn you 4 6months .. you are thr Best bro.. kind regards from new zealand
I finally got my fingers untangled after attempting Alex's last yo-yo trick just in time for shoulder day. I'm looking forward to trying out these delt tips tonight. 👍
:)
I never stop learning from this great dude! God bless his family and give them strength for his loss.
Rip John … you are missed and loved ..
I needed these videos, they've been an incredible addition to my education. They've also helped me to be more confident in my lifting choices. Rest well, John.
I’m a 25 year weight/ bodybuilding/powerlifting guy.. Arnold’s Encyclopedia was my first bible. As a 50 year old retired police officer I’m always looking for tips. I do Highland Games Strongman events during the summer months so I still do a fair amount of heavy training. I really learned a few things watching your posts. Just wanted to say thank you. Take care. :)
He seems like he was such a nice humble guy. So refreshing in the fitness industry. I'm sorry I didn't find his videos until after he'd passed.
DUDE!!! Your son’s rubic’s cube skills are on point! That was so impressive! And thanks for the shoulder tips!
John, I follow several channels for advices on training but you are definitely the BEST, for technical value and for the elegant presentation. Thanks
Man I just started lifting a year ago and all o have done is your exercises. I’ve gone and made routines off of your exercise index videos and I couldn’t be happier!!
Mountain dog, I read your articles on t nation 8 years ago and they changed how I trained. Stoked I stumbled across your TH-cam channel ✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼
Incredible advice. I did shoulders today believe or not after the workout I couldn’t even lift my arms to drink my shake 🤕and I did 60 reps!... Thank you so much John🤜🤛
This guy has the best TH-cam channel for weightlifting training that I have ever seen .... what an amazing teacher 💕
I definitely agree that the shoulders are misunderstood, and that they have the potential to benefit from a limited range of motion. I've incorporated some of these techniques, and have seen gains. Furthermore, that Rubik's Cube segment straight up blew my mind. Your son is a Wiz! As always, thanks for the quality content John.
you betcha!
Proof that you can have a better body than 99.9% of the population and still be a good guy, a helpful and thorough guide to a very challenging sport, and a successful social media personality. If you listen to his voice, he's as authentic as he can be. I know this is a shoulder video, but those biceps. Damn.
thank you!
Thank you, John! My shoulders have been lagging behind the rest of my body, and it's because I typically feel a lot of pain in the front of my shoulder near the Acromion process. I tried your deltoid tips today, and I slayed my deltoids - all three heads. They still feel tired hours later. And no pain in my shoulder!!! Thanks for sharing.
yes sir!
I miss this gentle giant..
Followed him for years, his advice/tips helps me a lot..
I remember reading Johns Mountain Dogg training on T nation like 7 years ago. Ever since then I have been in Man love. Thank you john, you are appreciated. Also the father of my baby delts.
I learned all the shoulder "safety" stuff the hard way. But this guy explained everything i learnt and i just wish i watched this guys vids before i got injured. I really appreciate this guy ❤️
The kid can solve the cube too?!? John, you created a legend !!! 😭💪🏽
Learning so much from this man even though I’ve been working out for many many years so sad he passed away such great videos so many great little tips just amazing . Rest In Peace
John..This series is the absolute dog's bollocks! Thank you man, been waiting on this one. Looking forward to the next
im literally gonna cry, we miss you
These are fantastic tips, I’ve been trying to grow my shoulders for awhile... I’m adding all these in now!! Thank you so much for putting this knowledge out for us from years of your experience, the best teacher!! Love your straightforward approach to the sport.
You were one of a kind John. Thank you and thank who everyone is running this channel.
Mountain, my shoulders are burnin like fire.
I' m 50 and haven't had a pump like this in a real good while.
STRETCH THE SHOULDERS
There are tons of people explaining how to do the exercises. But you! You also explain why. I really appreciate these videos. Thanks a lot.
Loving the clips of Alexander! What a smart young man! Great job, Mountain Dad!
I did a complete shoulder workout using all of the exercises and tips in this vid. I couldn't raise my arms for a week. Best tips ever.
I just found this guy and I love him. I love that he talks about different ways to do things. I love that he talks about what the retractors will say. I love that he talks science. I love that he talks natural enhanced. So much good information.
John , so your son has incredible brain , eye hand coordination ... the next great Topgun fighter pilot 👏👏👏👏
Brother, i tried EVERYTHING except injecting cooking oil into my shoulders and nothing worked until i tried your half sets with heavy weights. If i lift a pencil they're about to pop like baloons, THANK YOU for this video and keep up the good work. Subscribed!
The "partial lat raise" you demonstrated is BEAST!!! I forgot where I learned that oe from, but this one idiot, I mean dude at the gym, tried "correcting" me & I looked at his build & laughed. It actually helped to get my regular lateral raises stronger.
Good tips like always.
You're an exceptional teacher with insights that I believe that you impart because you truly care about helping people. Bravo
Thanks John. Your advice on shoulder training has been really useful to me. I have some unpleasant shoulder issues and the heavy low-partials and light high-partials for side delts, is working wonders. :)
John, Jeff Nippard, and Ryan Humiston, are the genuinely smartest guys on TH-cam fitness that give very awesome, sound advice. Thank you for all you do John. God Bless!!
This series is fire! I have already learned so much! Thanks John!
you're a great father John, it's always good to see your son smashing out tricks, rubix cube is hard i use to try when i was younger but gave up haha i was rooting for him to finish before the buzzer!
and as always, really enjoy your content, genuine, informative and full of tricks.
thanks John
you bet!
My God this high-quality content!!! Just when I think I know it all, this channel how little I do actually know... I tried your shoulder press variation just now and it made a massive difference in my shoulder joint pain. I thought it was because I was weak in the lift, but I'd never questioned the assumption and I'm not weak at anything. I was doing full range of motion, and pressing vertically with a behind the head alignment with dumbells... No wonder it was painful!. Thank you for this.
you bet!
Wow. I started my Rubik's cube back in 1987 and i still haven't finished it. Impressive kiddo.
me neither
Life is friggin' too short man!🤦🏿♂️ Such an amazing humang being! One year ago you were here, and you're not here anymore. I always enjoyed your content like a podcast, I learnt a lot with you. 2 months later after your death, I can't get over it.
R.I.P Legend🕊
You’re the man, John. Great video.
RIP sir you were truly a treasure for us all
Miss you, John
You're, the best. I use resistance bands because they're cheap, light weight and mobile. Also keeps me from a gym membership and taking up space in my house. But I take the information and workouts you provide and apply the same range of motion using bands. Thank you very much.
I swear the commercials create more suspense in the video lol 😆
Thx mountain dog 🐕 I’m using this tomorrow
these videos are quality. great combination of practicality, experience and theory. all makes a lot of sense and picked up a few new things from each one
I consistently watch this video before my shoulder workouts to remind me not to go back to old habits. After 30 years of training I’m still learning. Thank you John for sharing these tips.
