So this quark/strong force dilemma reminds me of how the physical act of stretching an electric arc raises it's voltage potential/energy level. The idea that some have as an explanation for this effect in electric arcs in gases is that of "electron avalanche"- ionized electrons or photons smash into other molecules, releasing even more electrons, in a chain reaction (like the a bomb). Could this be the Casimir force of the "quantum foam" pushing back on the quark separation- until they reach a distance sizeable enough to allow the wave functions of local spacetime to "go around them", collide/interfere and produce the new pair of quark/antiquark?
My daughter’s undergrad degree is in physics. She had a life sized cardboard ‘paper doll’ of Einstein. She walked him around campus, including taking him to physics classes. Maybe he helped her - she completed all the undergrad physics courses by the end of her sophomore year, and started grad level physics her junior year. She said the best thing about physics was that she never had to leave kindergarten. It was playtime, with advanced math.
reality, physics... never mind them, because the things can be infinitely big and small, but our ability to see them are always limited. This is one of those videos that was put on to fill a space in the background then became interesting enough to focus on, watch and enjoy. I only heard of Axions a few weeks ago and they could have got lost in the sea of theories but now it seems they might be a more serious a contender for the next way forward. The universe is like a maze that we keep finding dead ends and so many openings which we don't yet know if they lead anywhere. But so far we haven't reached the end of every possibility. It could still have an overall solution, which is wild and exciting.

That statement "Space-time is a form of matter, too" found on what I believe I recall is page 178 of Nobel Laureate Frank Wilczek's book "Fundamentals: Ten Keys to Reality", is a turning point in the fundamentals of Physics. Inherent to the statement is that the definition of matter now incorporates a direct interchangeability with space, and offered as follows: The intent herein is to provide a new definition of matter and space consistent with the CIG Theory: That new definition of Matter is: That which has mass, consists of the curvature of space-time and has an element of motion. While the current definition of space in its simplest form customarily is: "a boundless three-dimensional extent in which objects and events occur and have relative position and direction" As can be seen, since we have redefined Matter in the context of the curvature of space-time, we must also redefine "Space" as well, herein and as best I can, as follows: Space is that three dimensional extent in which objects and their events occur, wherein those objects of Matter are they themselves curved space-time, wherein the aforementioned space consists of and emerges via the unfolding of that Matter into various volumes and densities of Space by way of opportunistic rates of motion of Matter. In it's simpler form, Space is unfolded Matter, emergent from rates of motion. That's it and if I come up with a better definition or if someone else would like a try in the context of CIG Theory, please have a go at it. In this manner, a particle can become spatial and go through both slits in the double slit experiment. So, the single statement in the book "Fundamentals: Ten Keys to Reality" can be so elaborated upon. I would love to see a discussion on that statement alone. These two are brilliant.
Dr. Greene, I'd like to suggest that you ask persons who's opinions you value whether moving your camera back about 10-30 percent of what it is currently set at? Thank you for your consideration.

How do I have to interpret your reference to “Hegelian dialectic”? Thank you. I think Hegel was a genius. When he died, also his scientific approach to philosophy was buried. And philosophy became a platform for the publication of individual believe systems rather than a scientific research for knowledge and truth. I think that our scientific progress is being hindered by people that think that their meanings and feelings about scientific topics is a benefit for science and increases human knowledge and truth. Science is based on skills, discussion, passion and unbiased analysis.
Four months, ago, Matt O'Dowd on PBS space time TH-cam channel explained the options for proving and studying supersymmetric particles: better colliders or high energy particle detection from space. The high energy particles from space are rare while billions are needed, so the colliders are the only viable option.
Well, the behavior of quarks creating a quark anti-quark pair does remind of the behavior of the magnetic force when a magnet is cut in half: both pieces of the magnet will still have a north and south pole.
Brian is pretty based for a lifelong academic. Far better understanding of human realities than most of his colleagues who speak and act like they live in a different universe.
The human mind of astronaut-scientist Jack Schmitt suddenly spotted the orange soil on the moon and it was the human that took over from the computer because astronaut-pilot Armstrong understood the rocky landing site was not sound. I'd agree with the cyborg hypothesis. As usual a unique brilliant presentation. Thank you Prof Greene

I like this formulation. I like equating "meaning" to _mean_ - as in the arithmetic mean of a set of values. The mean of a probability distribution is also known as the _expected value._ The expected value is a measure of the predictability (along with standard deviation) of a distribution of possible events. What something "means" / the "meaning" of something is essentially what do you expect about its value.
@@NoActuallyGo-KCUF-Yourself yup. A handy mention for me to keep in mind while proselytizing, but I really mean you can extrapolate it to every question about meaning. Ive typed up quite a bit on it. BUT the emphasis is on the evaluation. You start with context and a set of conditions. You review. You experience.
IN the end what it comes down to is the integrity of the individuals ! "coudnt have said it better myself.... Problem is that, rather then calling bad peaple 'bad", i would call them dome. Becouse if the world is gonna be saved, where gonna need everyone, so indeed, it is the knolidge - of the mind - that must be cultivated by telling the truth, and that subject in itself is a hard one allready. But in an endless Universe, allthough the whole truth is allso a state of mind, it is the only thing that can trancend the humans in what they really are.. and that is, higher beyings, but only After their trancendence...

So love these streams !! Thanks so much for doing!
Wonderful conversation, thank you for this!
Great programing. Thank you for taking the time to explain different concepts. I so appreciate it. My mind doesn't function at the speed of light like yours and so many of your guests. Looking foward to your next projects. RMM
Your minds function at the same speed :) It's only that he's spent most of his life studying cosmology & physics, so he knows those fields well. I'm sure there are subjects you know far better than Brian
Excellent!!! Very inspiring. Thank you.
It is a maze that never stops giving ,one could only wonder of its limits ...orderly and beautiful ..imagination is short of it potential .
Giants of the mind. Utmost respect and gratitude!
Great conversation and great book (just finished it)...Thanks Brian and Frank!!!
If you like, try the book "I Have Become Space"
reality, physics... never mind them, because the things can be infinitely big and small, but our ability to see them are always limited. These guys (scientists) are only making a living telling stories but are never getting to the bottom of it. The bright side is that these guys are creating more and more funs for us, but always within the boundary of a sandbox.
Yes thanks again for the inspiring brainstorm. ♥
wonderful conversation, thanks
Thank you so much Brian Greene
I read Fundamentals. I liked reading it, the vast net it casts to place the different pieces together.
such a nice discussion...i wish i knew this kind of math
First of all, thank you for these. If I could make a small request, could we get timestamps for the topics in the video?
Blah blah blah juggling laundry soap
Blah blah blah
58:28 laundry soap FASCINATING!
1:0026 Spermion gets rejected (imagine that)
Can’t watch anymore of this drivel.
Good luck
@@melissaclaire8502 stick to a topic. If we get a focus it becomes much more understandable. No need for complex math but some helpful at times.
I’ve been into it 30 minutes and not much physics yet.
First of all, you're very welcome. Tx for watching. And, no, you may not make a request. Good day, sir. :D
@Đeath Vader General Tarkanian - I'm telling the Emperor you said that.
i second that request. por favor. muchas gracias.
Could some one explain for me the laugh and "thank goodness" to do with "strange" versus " curious" in a Gell-Mann paper? 1:00:40
cause it would be a bad marie curie pun OR maybe he laughs cause he is thinking that him being being curious about some things is not good and says "thank goodness" those things are strange, with a laugh, so In a sense he would be laughing to himself as a social way to move on from not bein asked asked what he does mean
This is what I though anyway
Love this channel
Thank you to all ,
My trustworthy ISP failed me right on 15th Jan :( I was looking forward to trying to attending the session.
For what it's worth, I would think Dr. Wilczek is to get second of those Nobel things for anyon. So, pardon my presumptuousness, Congratulations in advance Dr. Wilczek :)
I would love to see WSF team bring on kip throne in upcoming conversations with noble laureates.
By the way, The WSF is dong a great job by brining on such an amazing content.
"cast a wide net, don't try to understand everything before you understand anything, pay attention to the foundation, learn calculus soon as possible, be curious and have fun" 1:52:41. advice for the ages, ta Frank.
really fantastic conversation. Best wishes from Europe.
Great Video. Great Minds ! Thanks
Thanks guys. Super interesting
Good thought ,but ... a maze is built predicting a certain mindset ,it has to keep its designed target busy for a certain purpose ...and time .
Following you all the years in different ways. Thank you for educating us with understandable words. It’s not easy.
Ty for the discussion bys
I can't wait for the next wsf in nyc
I'm in need of around 50000 Indian rupees for the treatment of my wife she got injured in an accident and is critical please help me .
And do believe me I will repay it back to u by doing my job overtime but please help me today I have talked to my friends and relatives but no one is helping I anything happens to her I cannot forgive myself because we have done love marriage so everyone bis against us and nobody is helping us
Please more live sessions or start a Brian Greene podcast
What music is that? 2:02:33 I love it!
Always natural, awesome, open minded ...Brian, and his college Frank
"Space-time is a form of matter, too"
That statement "Space-time is a form of matter, too" found on what I believe I recall is page 178 of Nobel Laureate Frank Wilczek's book "Fundamentals: Ten Keys to Reality", is a turning point in the fundamentals of Physics. Inherent to the statement is that the definition of matter now incorporates a direct interchangeability with space, and offered as follows:
The intent herein is to provide a new definition of matter and space consistent with the CIG Theory:
That new definition of Matter is: That which has mass, consists of the curvature of space-time and has an element of motion.
While the current definition of space in its simplest form customarily is:
"a boundless three-dimensional extent in which objects and events occur and have relative position and direction"
As can be seen, since we have redefined Matter in the context of the curvature of space-time, we must also redefine "Space" as well, herein and as best I can, as follows:
Space is that three dimensional extent in which objects and their events occur, wherein those objects of Matter are they themselves curved space-time, wherein the aforementioned space consists of and emerges via the unfolding of that Matter into various volumes and densities of Space by way of opportunistic rates of motion of Matter.
Great conversation...
Dr. Greene, I'd like to suggest that you ask persons who's opinions you value whether moving your camera back about 10-30 percent of what it is currently set at? Thank you for your consideration.

'complimentarity' - word of the year. A bit of validation for lateral theorists.
I can't help thinking Dr Wilczek has ensnared himself in a perfectly self consistent Hegelian dialectic
Wonderful geniuses 👍
Heroes! Frank is fantastic. Read the book. Great. In talks he is also great and very funny from time to time.
Brian is pretty based for a lifelong academic. Far better understanding of human realities than most of his colleagues who speak and act like they live in a different universe.
"Dark Matter, is like being able to see a vast beach of sand, but not able to see each grain."
Who said that? One of these two guys said that? I don't like that analogy at all, sorry. Just mho.
(at about 2:20) you are confusing the concept of Mind (Pure Awareness) with the activity of Thinking. Btw what is Matter? Please define.
Great conversation. Thank you
Thanks Dr Green
You spoke of ingredients to start the universe .
Any idea how many must be present ?
Thanks Dr Green Is it if our universe started as a result all of the information devoured by a black hole in the neighbouring universe and squirted out as the hot plasma beginning our universe .
Is that a possibility?

Doesn’t seem unusual that the devoured planets and galaxies devoured by a blackhole in one universe . Would hold the ingredients necessary to spawn the new universe in the next universe !

What would the world we live in today be like if people of this caliber were the leaders of our world?
It would be like the politics at the departments of our universities... hell on Earth. ;-)
Please get Lee Smolin or Peter Woit in the interview too!
Suggestions: I would really enjoy a session with Michio Kaku.
Or Edward Witten.
Or Abhay Akshetar.
Or Kip Throne
Make a Patreon account plz, as it's a great resource to use. Science always needs 💰 and knowledge is priceless
That would be dumb.
Excellent content! Just make sure to laugh with him and bask in his humor when he jokes rather than ignoring the joke and rushing to the next topic. That would make it feel more organic convo rather than an interview, I know you have a lot of topics you want to get thru, just a viewer perspective
Meaning is the evaluation of the predictability of a scenario.
Thats it. You can derive all arguments about meaning.
I like this formulation. I like equating "meaning" to _mean_ - as in the arithmetic mean of a set of values.
The mean of a probability distribution is also known as the _expected value._
The expected value is a measure of the predictability (along with standard deviation) of a distribution of possible events.
Becouse if the world is gonna be saved, where gonna need everyone,
so indeed, it is the knolidge - of the mind - that must be cultivated by telling the truth, and that subject in itself is a hard one allready.
But in an endless Universe, allthough the whole truth is allso a state of mind, it is the only thing that can trancend the humans in what they really are..
and that is, higher beyings, but only After their trancendence...
I listened to these geeks for five minutes last night………haven’t gone to sleep so fast in years……..
Love you, Frank
