I used to have drag queens as friends. Each time they played in my city, I would attend their shows to support them. I was even hired as an announcer for a public access cable tv show starring one half of the act. It was a wonderful time.

Okay, I know this isn't the comment to do it, but I need somewhere to rant about the 2014 Maleficent:
Basically what Maleficent tries to do for Maleficent is what Wicked tried to do for the Witch of The West/Elphaba. But even then the whole point of the movie becomes redundant. Because what Wicked tried to do is give the witch personality, and backstory, and make the audience feel something for her, the witch of the west in the movie and books was bland, without much personality other than wanting to ruin things. Maleficent was already a charming, cunning villain, who would do what she needed to do to get what she wanted. If it meant killing infants, or kidnapping princes. And Maleficent didn't just curse Aurora because she wasn't invited, she cursed Aurora because she wanted to bring hopelessness and despair to the kingdom, make them feel miserable. Maleficent cursing Aurora just because of a grudge with Stefan doesn't give off 'I am the mistress of all evil and I will make you suffer' vibe. It gives off crazy ex-girlfriend vibes. And making Maleficent care about Aurora?!? She's the EMBODIMENT OF EVIL AND SUFFERING, not a babysitter! I know it's an adaption and you can do what you want, but defacing a perfectly fine character to an Elphaba wannabe, just doesn't sit right with me. And I've met so many people who take Maleficent as canon to the Sleeping Beauty story, it infuriates me. And there's no changing my mind, but Maleficent turning into a dragon will always beat the dark angel aesthetic. I know she turned the bird-man into a dragon in the 2014 one, but why couldn't she just turn into a dragon herself?!?!?!?!?!?!? *_aaaaAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH_*

The fact the Maleficent is so recognizable that you can change her dress, her head piece, her staff, her color scheme, or her face shape/color and STILL know it's her immediately is truly a testament to how good her design is. Imagine throwing a brunette Cinderella into a completely different color and costume; you'd probably assume it's Belle. But Maleficient is genuinely iconic.
5:28 Forget cheap-seats, these horns could be seen from outer-freak'n space! Those horns have been known to pick up stray radio signals! One moment Maleficent will be monologuing then all of a sudden you hear John Denver playing out of her horns!

1:54 Fun Fact: Marc Davis was given Maleficent because, one he always wanted to do a villain, and two because he was basically their number one guy when it came to female characters, he drew Cinderella, Alice, Tinkerbell, Aurora, and Cruella De Vil, so he was given Maleficent because they wanted here to look more beautiful.

I've always loved Maleficent's character design! It's so perfect, elegant and iconic. While I"m not opposed to the occasional red in the costume, I still prefer the pinks or purples being there. I do LOVE that flame version of it from Disney's Once Upon a Dream parade and that Steampunk Maleficent dragon from Festival of Fantasy is amazing!

Sleeping Beauty is my favorite princess movie. Maleficent is my favorite villain. The background forests are some of my favorite animated sets of all time. Maleficent IS the ultimate Villain. Every word she said in the original is perfect. Thank you for going in as deep as you did with her character design. This was surely worth the wait.

Totally agree!! 😈That dungeon scene on repeat though!! When done right, It's one of the most flattering costumes/makeups of any female face characters. Like talk about hot! Also I think that film is what planted the seed of me being intrigued by the f**ish of hypnotism.

As a huge Maleficent fan, there has always been one thing that irritates me about her costumes. The spikes either side of her horns are actually supposed to be all the way around her head, similar to her dragon counterpart. I don't know if that is because of health and safety but they have NEVER done it right, there is even a clay sculpt that Marc Davis used which has the spikes on there so I know it definitely was used as reference for the film.

Wow Paris really does get the better character costume designs. Absolutely stunning work. Wish some of that integrity would spread back to the original parks once again as well. Kudos, Paris!

I think at this rate it might never reopen...it’s an extremely expensive show and with all the additions to DHS, I’m afraid that once entertainment gets back on track at the parks, the theater will be scrapped for a new ride/future expansion. It’s a pretty big area it sits on all alone, and is never utilized during the day. I’m praying for a refurb/Fantasmic 2.0 though.

It makes sense because for a show that far away they'd want someone really tall to play her
So, here's a fantasmic detail that I just spontaneously remembered. In the DisneyWorld version, Ariel is sitting on the bow of the river boat with her fins. However, there's a point where all the actors have to take shelter inside the boat because all the fireworks go off... everyone except for Ariel who can't move... because her fins. So what do they do? They throw a fire repellant blanket over her and call it good.
Edit: It's the Disney World version. And apparently her fins are attached the boat itself.

I always loved the villains, even when I was younger. I had so much Evil Queen stuff growing up, so I love that Disney is expanding the villains in the parks and not just making them a Halloween thing.

I went to Disney World in 2015 with my family and we walked in while Festival of Fantasy was happening. I got an amazing picture of the Maleficent float breathing fire. Its still my favorite picture I've taken at a Disney park.
I forgot what a gem the sing along songs were until you mentioned them. I haven't seen them since I was so young. Maleficent in that movie looks like she's sweaty rather than glittery lol.
