This is one of those songs when you were stuck in traffic and it came on the radio and you forgot all about your driving woes. It had the same chill vibes as "To Sir with Love" and "Downtown".
Nothing but good memories associated with this beautiful classic. How can you not listen to it and not feel good about the world .. the fact that it became such a big hit during one of the most tumultuous times in this country's recent history is a testament to its power. This song will always hold a special place in the hearts of boomers still clinging to the innocence and ideals of youth in a world that was giving them absolutely no right to do so. 🌅
Tommy James and the Shondells hit it out of the park with this one. It was a massive hit back in 1968 and this was all over the radio. So glad this was the type of great music we had then. Miss that. Thanks for the great reaction. 👏👏👏🥰
Great song! Tommy James & The Shondells are a great pop rock/psychedelic rock band from the 60's. They had a lot of great hits such as "Hanky Panky", "I Think We're Alone Now", "Mirage", "Mony Mony", "Sweet Cherry Wine", "Ball Of Fire", "Do Something To Me" etc. When Tommy went solo in the 70's he had a couple of hits "Draggin' The Line" & "Three Times In Love".
Thanks so much for another wonderful reaction. I have looked forward to your daily reactions as they bring back many wonderful memories. Music really is a Time Machine that can instantly take you back to special times and places with special people.
I appreciate the kind words, thank you. I have been very blessed to have some of the absolute best people tune in and spend some of their day with me. It has been rough to know if I should continue with the channel lately, but I will always be grateful for those who took pleasure in what I brought to TH-cam. Thank you, have a great weekend!
Ah, that 1960s hippie optimism about world peace. It's beautiful to think about, anyway. And this is a beautiful song. Love the very restrained use of the organ and the plucking on the acoustic guitar.
I was 13 years old in the summer of 1969 when this song Burst onto the music scene. What a great, soothing, and Love filled theme to this much needed song for that desperate and ugly time in History. Vietnam war was raging, race riots every night on the 6 O'clock news, it was a crazy time, but the music during that period was unmatched. Tommy was telling everyone to look up to God in Heaven. He was so right.
Me too ! I think I think more of 1969 than any other year. I enjoyed that year !! Great music everything was good back then ! This was one of my favorite songs back then listening to it at the beach .
Shawn, I grew up with this song, having the 45 record. For me, it represents the sunrise; like those cool, breezy ones in fall where the air is so crisp, the day breaks crystal blue on the horizon as night retreats. Dawn bringing the hope of a new day and driving a vibe of peace to all up early enough to greet it.
Tommy James & The Shondells is one of my all-time favorite Rock bands....This is my favorite song from them!!! Good reactions!!! "Mony Mony" By Tommy James & The Shondells is FIRE!!!!
Great song & reaction! 😀 They had a number of very good songs. You would enjoy any of their other songs! “Draggin’ the Line,” “Mirage” & “I think we’re alone now.” are a handful of their good songs. Thank you Shawn!
💦💎💦Love Crystal Blue Persuasion. "I Think We're Alone Now" by Tommy James & The Shondells is another different sound. Have you heard "It's a Beautiful Morning" by The Rascals? 🌴🌅🌴I appreciate that you take the time to listen to a variety of songs. I love singing along. Thanks again, Shawn. 😃
We thought we could flower power and love our way to save the world. All we can do is try to do this as a one on one endeavor. Love Tommy James starting with my high school days. Great reaction, Shawn. Blessings all.
You have reacted to “Crimson and Clover” (one of the outstanding psychedelic songs of the 60’s)… time to check out a few more epic psychedelic tunes from the same era, "Incense And Peppermints” (Strawberry Alarm Clock), "(We Ain't Got) Nothin’ Yet” (Blues MaGoos), and "You Keep Me Hanging On” (Vanilla Fudge)… just to name a few.
"Tommy James & the Shondells - Live! At the Bitter End " is a must-see live video recorded in a small club and is the most wonderful performance with excellent audio quality. Give it a look someday.
It was an anti-war song, in it's core. It was also a look toward Christ song too. His book, "Me, and the Mob, and the Music: One Hell Of A Ride" was a great book. Great insight to his persona, and the music industry of that time.
Great reaction, when i hear songs like this i feel like I'm 17 again in 1969 and what Iam doing at that time. It's a beautiful feeling when your 73 years old!
Try the Rascals. They are similar to tommy james and the shondells. Songs like Beautiful Morning, Groovin, Good Lovin, People got to be Free. All great songs and what range.
You are impressed by the different sounds with Tommy James then you’ve got to listen to Dragging The Line , that’s another different sound too from Tommy James!!
Here's a new artist to give a listen, if interested. "Dion Warwick - Deja Vu (Live at Rialto Theatre, 1983 (Remastered, 60fps)" (by the channel: apple cider) --Isaak Hayes (another iconic artist) had written the tune "Deja Vu" for Warwick while touring, but without lyrics, then Warwick would recall hearing Hayes play the tune-which he had titled "Deja vu" without writing the lyrics and as she and Barry Manilow began preparing for the 1979 recording sessions for the "Dionne" album Warwick solicited a tape of the song from Hayes to play Manilow, who recruited his own regular lyricist Adreienne Anderson to write the words. The song won Warwick a grammy award.
I love this song, one of my favorites by Tommy & The Shondells. Crimson & Clover is another great song from their catalog. They were so popular, starting in the 60’s.👍👏👏👏♥️🌹
Oh my goodness! I was 7 when this came out! Loved it then and love it now! Been on every playlist I’ve ever made! Used to sneak into my older sisters room and listen to all the good stuff! It created a huge love of music for me!
Yeah, as the actor who played Malcom X in the 2014 (I pretty sure it was Nigel Thatch) movie said when asked what he learned from doing the movie, "I learned 2 things ... 1. People who were protesting in those times weren't doing so to be negative ... they really knew what they were talking about ... and 2. They had some really kickass music !!!"
This song brings me back to a more innocent and groovy time. A veritable celebration of color. And I sense that we are entering into another similar renaissance as we speak, with a burst of new creativity in every field. A re-engroovenation, as I like to call it. And you are part of it, as is this song, which reminds us of our shared values, as opposed to our differences. In fact, now that I think about it, similar life-affirming and community-enhancing songs might be something worth focusing on, in order to counter-program the onslaught of negativity that can make people think life and the world are worse that it is, and give up. For a similarly inspiring song with an upbeat rhythm, you could do worse than "Revival" by the Allman Brothers. "People can you feel it, love is in the air. People can you feel it, love is everywhere." It really was a different time.
This is about a revelation or something he saw in the Bible. I always thought it was about drugs when I first heard this. One of my favorite songs. I t just makes me feel happy when I hear it.
Hi Shawn. Nice reaction. Last week, we lost two musicians that had hit songs. Greg Kihn of the Greg Kihn Band had hits with "The Breakup Song" and "Jeopardy", passed from Alzheimer's Disease. And Jack Russell, the original lead singer of Great White, passed from Lewy Body Dementia and multiple system atrophy. Would you please check out their music so that their music continues to live on? Thanks!
Shawn, good stuff. Suggest:...."Say I am" by Tommy James...."Lady willpower" by Gary Pucket...."Let's live for today" by Grass Roots....."Man who sold the world" by Lulu
Ezekiel 1:26 And above the firmament over their heads was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like a sapphire stone; on the likeness of the throne was a likeness with the appearance of a man high above it.
One of the best songs of all time.
Tommy James :
“DRAGGING THE LINE “
another great one!!!!!!!
"Draggin' the Line" is a hit song by American rock musician Tommy James, who went solo after the Shondells disbanded in 1970
Oh yes! One of my favorites.
I agree. This is his best song, imho.
If you don't sing along with that hook, there's something wrong with you.
This is one of those songs when you were stuck in traffic and it came on the radio and you forgot all about your driving woes. It had the same chill vibes as "To Sir with Love" and "Downtown".
My favourite song by them. I remember laying on the beach with my Philco transistor radio and listening to all these great songs.
An anthem of the era. Thanks.
Nothing but good memories associated with this beautiful classic. Each person has the ability to bring joy to the world. Just smile when you greet people and the love will flow.

Tommy worked in a record store in my home town when I was a kid. I bought a record and a couple of black light posters from him.
Crimson and Clover is a superb album front to back 👌
Brings back memories of my high school days....love this song 🎵 ❤
I love the Hammond B-3 organ and Leslie speaker in this one.🤗
They had a ton of great songs from the mid to late 60's.
This song has been on my playlist FOREVER … I just love it . Thank you for the reaction .
Crystal Blue Persuasion was the theme for my Pennsylvania high school prom in 1971!
Also my prom song. Pennsylvania.❤
Ah, that 1960s hippie optimism about world peace. It's beautiful to think about, anyway. And this is a beautiful song. Love the very restrained use of the organ and the plucking on the acoustic guitar.

Peace and Love from Canada ❤
Tommy James also put out solo hits like; DRAGGIN THE LINE (1971). My sister-in-law went to high school with Tommy, and the original Shondells.
TJ totally understood what it took to make a perfect pop song. Total hit maker.
I forget about these laid-back gems from my youth. Great tune.
Thanks!
Thank you sooo much! ❤️
❤❤❤❤❤ In my top 5 songs of all time. Thank you, Shawn!

One of my fave songs EVER!
Tommy does a radio show called Gettin' Together with Tommy James. It's a 60s hits show on Sirius XM Radio channel 73

On my playlist. Beautiful song imo🔥👍🏻👏🏻
You should have been young in the 60's and 70's. It was a blast.
I've seen a video of this from much more recent - he still had his voice!
Did you know that Tommy James & The Shondells were the ones that first came out with Mony Omny.
Such a positive song! 🎶 the lyrics and melody match up well in this hit, so peaceful and uplifting.
Yeah, as the actor who played Malcom X in the 2014 (I pretty sure it was Nigel Thatch) movie said when asked what he learned from doing the movie,
