    too bad they didn't made the lens wider + mic jack with hotshoe + better image stabilization + ND filters = ultimate vlogging camera

    • @charbax

      That camera doesn't exist.

    • @banemitic

      Why don't ask Sony to shoot vlog instead of you? That would much better.

    • @charbax

      I just hope Sony includes everything I want in a6700. Sad though they purposefully remove mic jack, ibis in cameras like rx100 mark6.

  • @PhantomRides

    Why is Sony being the new Apple in limiting features? Hot shoe, ND Filters, External Mic Jack... boom... take my money!

    • @Pepepowah
      @Pepepowah 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Phantom Rides then its not a point and shoot. Might as well get a mirrorless

      i don't mind. I ordered a used RX100 III because i want to be able to whip it out and take photos, then shove it back in my pocket. I wouldn't be using a mic or hot shoe. I do agree with you on the ND filters though!

  • @charbax

    Why no mic jack? I don't understand. Adding a mic jack costs them less than $1. Camera for sale at $1200, comon Sony. Having to use an external sound recorder and post produce to match external audio with video means this camera (and any other camera without a mic jack) is mostly useless for TH-cam video-blogging.

    • @DayHowarth
      @DayHowarth 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's the point. They're not trying to save money, they're limiting the features to protect their products higher up the line.

    • @tams805
      @tams805 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Their other products don't really fit the bill though. Sure you can vlog with a micro 4/3s, but it's a big bulky mess.

    • @charbax
      @charbax 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Day Howarth how can they even remotely consider that someone spending $1200 for a point and shoot needs to be prevented from being able to video-blog with that camera? The thinking is insane. Protecting mic jack input for "higher end larger cameras" is just BS, Sony needs to stop to be like that. There are mic jacks on tiny Mp3 players the size of a nail so size I think is not an issue they could easily have fit a mic jack on this camera. Sony should feel ashamed marketing this camera as suitable for video-blogging.

    • @charbax
      @charbax 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mp3 player manufacturers fit a mini jack on tiny mp3 players the size of a fingernail, so really, there is ample space to include the mini jack. They cannot claim this camera is for video-blogging when it can only produce crappy audio.

    • @charbax
      @charbax 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does not have a full frame sensor. This is a 1" sensor only. People have audio jacks in tiny super thin smartphones, makes zero sense to release a camera without a mic input.

  • @max03tube
    @max03tube 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Thanks Lok for this great review. Now I know that this camera is not worth the price at all. Overheating is a deal breaker. The lens needs to be wider and no mic jack. The stabilization is shaky same as Mark 5. What the hell Sony is doing? The Action CAM Sony FDR-3000R seems a better deal than this.

    Aperture always always always matters, especially for tiny sensors. Why shoot on a tiny sensor if you can't even benefit from fast, compact glass? And it looks like Sony colors are still awful, but I really like the image stabilization and video quality. Even the built-in mic sounds pretty good, honestly.

    Love your video!! Missed your digitalrevtv videos with Kai, but your content is great, keep it up!! By the way, Panasonic Zs100 has a 10x zoom,25-250 mm equiv. Still larger than Sony. Also have 1 inch sensor and aperture of f2.8-f5.9

  • @JonInLondon
    @JonInLondon 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the lack of the ND is just so annoying. You can get add-on filter systems for the previous RX100s, although the LensMate one doesn't work with the VI (I assume one that does will be along though):
    lensmateonline.com/collections/sony-rx100-iii-rx100-ii-rx100-accessories/products/lensmate-rx100-iii-rx100-ii-rx100-quick-change-adapter-kit-52mm?variant=998641683
    But I haven't used them as my RX100V has the ND :-)
    I can't see how they could have fitted a microphone jack in, people must understand to add lots more stuff you get a larger camera. I think a companion wireless microphone would have been good. Although you can always record external audio and sync in the video editor.
    BTW I'm looking at what video profile to use at the moment on my V (which has the same sensor and stacked buffer chip as the VI and RX10IV). Previously I have shot Cine2 with colour mode ITU709 (not a default) but I wonder if there is a better alternative. Until I review the forest of test clips I've shot I wondered if you just use the standard colour mode?
    Oh and finally I assume Sony still don't do an advanced manual, just the basic one and an online HelpGuide where you can search for answers to the 80% of stuff the basic manual doesn't cover?
    helpguide.sony.net/dsc/1750/v1/en/index.html
    RX100VI book authors should send them a royalty...
    P.S. one final tip - people should remember that while most people call it the RX100VI Sony call it the RX100M6 so search for that on the Sony site.

    Don't know if this was mentioned before - here is adapter you can add onto the Mvi to hold all types of filters 52mm Magfilter Threaded Adapter Ring. I ordered the Mvi a couple of days ago. Its perceived limitations don't affect me. I look forward to having no excuse for not having a camera with me at all times - a sophisticated camera at that. Thank you for the excellent review!

    Thank you for testing and showing us this camera. For personal video and vlogging, it does not tick off enough boxes for the $1200 price tag imo. I'll stick with the version 3. However, It does have some nice dynamic range and good picture quality.

    5k sampling down to 4k producing better video than other cameras in it's class, plus 24 fps stills, plus 200mm zoom, plus it has zeiss optics, plus flip screen for selfie, plus it fits in the pocket, plus one-action pop up high-res EVF, plus it has a 1" sensor, plus slow-motion video at 250 fps, plus excellent low light capabilities? I'm totally sold! I don't need a girlfriend, I need a Sony RX100 VI.

    Im really looking for a camera that will capture better photos than my smartphone.
    - I travel A LOT and take lots of pictures of landscapes / buildings.
    - I would like to take it on a hike and take photos of wildlife / mountain ranges.
    - I also want to create stop motion animation.
    (I wont be creating too many videos...)
    Would this camera be worth my money? Or should i just stick with my Samsung Galaxy S8?

    Good review Lok, thanks. Personally i'm never going smaller than APS-C for my compact-camera needs. But i can definitely see that this is for the market of people that want a "do-it-all" travel camera with reliable and fast AF and a long zoom-range. My parents are retiring from their respective jobs in a year from now. And they will be travelling for half a year around the world. I'd probably recommend this to them. And not to mention in a year from now it's probably discounted from the current going price.

      Well it’s still depends on what you wanna shoot. Not so much for most street photography, but max shutter speed is just 1/3200s even with electronic shutter. And it’s a must for video if you wanna keep 180 shutter angle.

    Thanks for your great video. I think this camera is amazing especially for shooting landscape while hiking in HK hills due to its lightweight and focal length. However, I am not sure whether 1' CMOS sensor could be competitive in landscape shooting compared with APS-C. Also the price is too high and I am waiting for the big sale in HK at the end of this year.

    The price is pretty high now.
    The much longer zoom seems nice. I often want more on my V. As is the new viewfinder, even if the old one wasn't to much of a hassle with practice.
    The smaller aperture isn't really much of a problem. The lack of an ND filter though is annoying. It's nice to not have to attach an external filter, and an internal one can be used with an external one to make a pseudo variable ND filter. UHS really would have been nice, as would USB C with USB 3.1.
    What really bugs me though, is that Sony are pushing this to vloggers, but got rid of the ND filter and still haven't added a microphone jack (or bluetooth audio syncing). Yet they've released a vlogging grip...

    • @slinkytrips
      @slinkytrips 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You still need the Sony Multiconnect port for accessories so they can't fit a USB C on there as well. Having said that the audio out pins on that aren't used on Sony stills cameras so they could always use that as a mic input.
      The grip is actually a repackaged Sony GP-VPT1 that came out a few years ago, but I think you are right - it's not really for vloggers. My guess is they went for more zoom as that is something smart phones struggle with.
      Along with removing the ND filter they have also reduced the resolution of the rear screen as well.

    Agree that the RX100 V is still a good option if the VI focal length and aperture range is not a good fit for your style of shooting. Good job hitting most of the technical features. Price point will likely keep more traditional P&S consumers (any that still exist) looking at cheaper alternatives. Those want the best performance and need that small size, regardless of price might consider the RX100 line. Pretty sure your average viewer, like yourself is prepared to lug more substantial kits. That said, I think the Sony marketeers believe the tiny niche they are carving out at the high end of the P&S segment, in the long run will be less vulnerable than the cheaper alternatives, from the smartphone onslaught.

    • @tams805
      @tams805 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be fair, if the market hasn't been taken over by smartphones yet, then it's probably safe for a while. Some new technology might come along and change that, but everything must obey the laws of physics.
      With smartphones still striving to be as thin as possible, the threat might even have decreased.

    Impossible as the ultimate vlog camera. Headphone jack and mic jacks have an amplifier and preamplifier there too and that means size and heat challenges. Also the 1 inch BSI sensor only goes so far in low light. Size of the sensor and a fast lens matter. F 2.8 to 4.5 is okay. As expensive as this is, that is allot of camera with you. I think the RX-100 is great. Just won't get my money. How is the low light performance? I hate small sensors and poor shallow depth of field. It is a candid quicky camera that you pay too much for.

    Still love your videos Lok. Just not this camera. I'll take a RX-10 IV instead if I have to pick a bridge/point and shoot.

    Also remember as the camera gets smaller, heat is harder to manage on video processing in 4K. Heat sinking a small camera is a huge challenge. You need another quantum leap in low voltage low current processors that do the work cooler, and codecs that are more efficient.
