Taleb is right. As an experimental physicist who did real science I can confirm: 1) science breakthroughs are often driven by new technology becoming available (think: ok, we got this new tech toy, what can we do with it? A bigger laser, lets shot it at stuff - and see what happens.). Once you find some new phenomenon by plaing with the tech, you start thinking about how to explain it - aka make a scientific theory. There are very few examples where a theory was developed first and then experiments confirm it later - those are the "big wins" for science - like Einsteins theory of relativity or the Higgs boson. 2) It is very uncommon to plan and then discover some scientific insight. Most of the times you are looking for something but you stumble on something entirely different by chance. Real science doesn't work like a tech tree in computer games. Commercial development works like that (it HAS to) - throw insane resouces to improve metric X and eventually you will improve metric X. Scientists for the most part don't do such boring endeavours. So yea, Taleb is mostly right - unless you are Einstein or Peter Higgs.
Yes. Nice comment. Another Einstein example was his 1917 paper on the prediction of the stimulated emission of light and other radiation, which is the physics behind the production of coherent light in lasers. So he managed to achieve theoretical physics prediction of an unknown phenomenon more than once, which is really amazing.
Life and things around us are totally based on biased... so it's all illusion... let say if we assume educated ppl are better paid off individuals it seems true but it's totally biased indeed we are not focusing the hypothesis but finding a supportive fact..because educated ppl are really paid well... so either tech is the base of scientific theory or scientific theory is the base of tech it's totally useless argument because both of the events we are discussing are already existed.. if you really wanted to prove something the you need to create the other side of the event that must not occurred in human history earlier.. the rest is pointless
Tinkering belong to the future, while knowledge belong to the past .. tinkering filled with new potentials while knowledge is repeating already made discoveries!
There are huge populations available for tinkering in the global south especially China & India, how do you get them to "Tinker" productively with their huge numbers.
Hey there, {{3}}! As a fellow tech enthusiast, I can definitely understand the value of tinkering and exploring new possibilities. Have you ever considered the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule? It's a powerful tool for keeping your tech setup clean and dust-free, with its vacuuming and blowing capabilities. I've found it to be a reliable and efficient way to maintain my desktop and keyboard. Definitely worth looking into! Let me know if you have any other questions or need more recommendations. Happy optimizing!
This guy is a genius but he is not quite the communicator the world needs. One day a writer will distill his theories into some easier to grasp concepts and buzzwords and will change the world
Fascinating. Had to watch it through for the second time to get all of the points he was trying to make. Will definitely be interesting to study further into his conception of the role of uncertainty in the practical world.
Hey there! It seems like you're interested in PC building, desktop setups, and notebook upgrades. I'd be happy to help you out and provide some advice or recommendations. Feel free to ask me anything and let's dive into the fascinating world of tech together! 💻🚀
Dear Mr Taleb, what's you opinion about "thought tinkering' .. i.e., "thought experiment" (gedankenexperiment)?.. Thank you i am really enjoying your perspective here 🙂
Hey there! I recently came across the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule and it seems like a great tool for keeping your desktop, car, and other spaces clean. With its powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities, along with its compact design, it could be a useful addition to anyone's cleaning routine. Plus, it offers versatile accessories and a long-lasting battery, which is always a plus. Just thought I'd share my thoughts on it! Let's keep the tech discussion going!
I think you would be a lot better off knowing how to tinker in a way that can be replicated and also who already tinkered the tinkering you are about to attempt. For that you could use the scientific method. It's a great guide to tinkering efficiently. I see a bit of the hypomanic in Nassim here. Seems to have mellowed with age since. It's a bit like watching an obscure and esoteric con man here.
Hey there {{3}}! As a fellow tech enthusiast, I totally agree with you. Tinkering and experimenting with technology is a great way to expand your knowledge and skills. The scientific method definitely provides a structured approach. Speaking of optimization, have you heard of the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule? It's a handy tool for keeping your desktop and other spaces clean and dust-free. It offers powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities, making it a must-have for any tech setup. Let me know if you'd like more information or recommendations on PC building and upgrades!
Hey there! I totally agree with your comment, {{3}}. The translation may not be the best, but the content itself is definitely worth checking out. By the way, have you heard of the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule? It's a cool gadget that offers powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities, perfect for keeping your desktop spotless. It also has other handy features like inflating items and cleaning keyboards. Check it out if you're interested!

This brilliant man doesn’t need your terrible stock music in the background pounding away, take note!
it's maddening
Yes. Music is NOT necessário.

I find his books easy to read actually. When he speaks on the other hand, it’s hard to follow his line of thought, seems like ADHD commercial 😂

What is tinkering?
Playing around with something, e.g. trying to adjust, take apart or fix something with a screwdriver

He talks like every Professor. Nothing concrete, just all these ideas.
hes addressing a broad audience
Real
Can we upload someone talking without an inane, annoying soundtrack? Unwatchable.

Old, obvious, known, worn out ideas he is trying to sell as brand new.
One way to interpret it!
So old, that the entire financial system broke down in 2008 because they had forgotten them.
