Hey Caleb, the Samsung 98” QN90D has been given a lot of solid feedback.. plenty of comparisons between the TCL QM8, Sony X90L, Hisense U8K, etc.. My question is why hasn’t there been any kind of comparison with the Hisense 98” UX? I am interested where is the sweetspot today when you take money, size and quality to consideration. I bet the sweetspot is around 65", but what kind of difference does it get above or below that?
I purchased the QN90D 77” I friggin luv it. The price came down to $1800.00 . I thought the 85” would be a little too big and not worth the added expense. I have to say the packaging was excellent and the space to add the center stand was brilliant. We laid it flat and I have to tell ya it was terrifying. That big screen actually flexed . That scared the dickens outta me. I’ll keep watching to see your settings. Want to see your gameplay setup. I have seen some juttering and weird grays but I think it’s my settings. As for the price of the big one I’m assuming the price reflects the build size .
Could you please do a comparison on Samsung tvs inbuilt calibration function on the tv which you use your phone camera to setup, compared to your pro calibration tools. I used this function with my old iPhone 11 on my 65” S95B when I first bought the tv in 2022 and think it looks good but wondering if it’s worth getting it professionally calibrated?
awesome looking TV. I know you have probably been asked but is the wood panel section on the wall a kit or custom? I'm looking to do something like that behind my TV. Thanks
Would you chose a 65" Samsung Neo QLED 8k instead of an LG or Samsung 65" OLED 4k if they were similar in price? I am struggling to find good arguments to make the best decision between Neo QLED 8k and OLED 4k.
Hi Caleb! Nice work you're doing. What's the brand of step-ladder and two-handle truck you use in your videos? I trust they're of excellent quality, and I'm interested in owning them. Thanks!
Great stuff, Caleb! A vicarious unboxing for me. Having two bodies to lift that beast is a plus. I guess I'd be curious to see a comparison between my ~2021 65" QN800A 8K and this 4K at 98"... seems like the "larger" pixel sizes would be an issue on a 4K 98" even from 10 feet away. I still love my 8K but someday I plan to graduate to a BIG screen for the big livingroom wall we have and it would probably need to be a 4K due to price alone. I'd be curious to know the Samsung manufacturing cost vs markup.... Like musical equipment, a 300% markup would not be surprising to me.
I have on of these in between two Hisense 65 inches in my theatre/games room. It's exceptional quality, I did both a picture comparison, energy usage and feature comparison of the TCL and Hisense 98's before purchase and there was clear differences. I managed to get it for 10K AUD, down from 18k at the time which made things easier, no regrets on the size or model
I got the TV last week from a large German electronics retailer. It was on offer and cost 9489 euros. I also got the Q990d soundbar for 1089 euros. The dealer had a promotion where the 19% VAT was refunded. As a result, I only paid a total of 8939 euros. Then there was a 6,000 euro Samsung cashback campaign. So I paid a total of 2939 euros for the television and soundbar. That's $3185 with the soundbar together.
This is why brands like TCL and Hisense are succesful, the difference to A brands is not as great as people think, and the price difference is another big factor.
@@jody024TCL and Hisense don’t do anything other can’t. They manufacture on velocity. Make it really fast and therefore cheap. The $5k difference is really a $3k difference in cost. So that $5k you saved becomes another $5k to spend in less times you should have to spend $5k.
4:49 Samsung actually does make an 8K version in the 98 inch size. It’s the QN98QN990c (they carried it over from ‘23 hence the C). It retails for an astronomical 40 THOUSAND…..
If I was in the markets for a mini-led, I would buy this over B9 85" for sure. More zones, bigger size, and the smart calibration app can make it quite close to the B9. Also, better in gaming at 144hz and same PQ as in other modes pretty much vs Sony's slightly diminished gaming modes.

I was thinking about taking it back and replacing with the QN90D 85 in or should I just get a replacement for the s90d or replace it with a QN90D. I am in the living room with light controlled environment. The only thing I will do is watch movies, TV shows, a little bit of news, no video games. Is the QN90d black levels almost the same as the s90d would I be disappointed with the QN90d.
i don't understand how we went from having budget LCD TV's in the 2000's that had perfect off angle viewing/no blooming to high end LED/LCD's of today that have horrible off angle viewing/ horrible blooming??? IMO the higher contrast is not worth such huge drawbacks.
This was a great unboxing video. I loved that you went thru the setup for us. I'm glad that my 2017 samsung 65 inch curve qled 4k tv does not have any ads and no bixby on it at all. I wish there was an niche/optional curve tv models for the 4k mini led tvs since there are curve 4k mini led gaming monitors like the 3 inch 4k mini led samsung odyssey g8 neo with 240 hz 1ms response time. Basically a 65 inch curve qled 4k mini led tv version of the odyssey neo g8 with 4,000 nits instead of the 2,000 nits like the gaming monitor. I want the 4,000 nits because there are movies that are mastered with 4,000 nits with hdr from the 4k discs. Even though 4,000 nits is already bright, you can always decrease the brightness plus there will be no risk of burn in. I burn in oled displays like I burn in headphones.

Once you get in the 100 +/- sizes, it's crazy if you do not consider a medium or above quality 13.2 ch sound system rather than the really nuts (in a bad way) sound bar BS.
I have the QLED from last year - It’s 98 inches. Heavy as hell and I returned it twice for not working properly (cracked screen on delivery and the second one had a bad HDMI port). Then i had Samsung come out and replace the screen for a large grey spot in the middle. Not happy at all with the quality. Currently I have to tap on the screen to get it working. It’s not fading in and out and I’m sure I’ll need a new screen again. This has to be the end of physical screens this size with short throw and ultra short projectors getting better and better. No, this is not worth $15,000.
I love the Samsung centralized stand, and respect their dedication to it. $15k is not a smart move since the TCL and Hisense models are not far off in picture quality.
Mr. Caleb, I hope Samsung finally drops Dolby Vision in the 2025 Sets at Las Vegas CES show🤞🤞🤞🤞….im not sure how you feel about there HDR10+ formats & if you can see a difference between the two❓…..great video like always….
The fast tv almost had me in tears with my s90d 77", I tried everything I could to get it to shut off. I'm the kind of person who is immediately annoyed by reality tv and just could not get it to stop playing Hell's Kitchen. Once I had an HDMI connection it went away. I felt like smart calibration made everything too red, Dhalsim in SF6 was magenta.
Overpriced without Dolby Vision or DTS sound support. Most people will probably be more than satisfied with Sony's X90L at 98 inches especially when they're saving five thousand dollars.
Totally agree, as I did buy the 98” Sony for our home theater myself in July for $5K based on the review from Caleb and others. I’ve always been a Sony guy with an 83” A90J OLED in our family room. Great picture and the usual stellar Sony processing, and it’s a great alternative to a 4K projector like we had at our old house. The price, while not “cheap”, is low enough that if some wonder display comes out in a few years I won’t be so all-in with this one that it hurts much.
I’m trying to decide if I should just buy the 98” X90L now or wait until next year. Presumably So will come out with some kind of 98 inch upgrade since the X 90 L is already a year and a half old. How good is yours? Is there any room for improvement?
@@tedshep Maybe buy the X90L on Black Friday because Sony is likely to replace it next year with something substantially more expensive. Also, keep in mind that the X90L's support for Dolby Vision and DTS makes the most sense for people who watch a lot of physical media like DVDs and Blu-ray discs.
The fast add supposed tv thing doesn't start in Iceland like it did with this tv. In fact, there are NO ADDS that ever get slapped on tvs here. Like on my Samsung 75" Q80C I've been telling you about and sending you emails about to "you asked" that have still gone unanswered 😢
I have long wondered if there had been R&D into plasma TVs for the last 15 years, would the technology have kept up with OLED and other premium televisions, or would there be some inherent technological limitations that are impossible to overcome from a basic physics point of view
Those electricity costs I definitely misleading, it should always come down to watts since people are at a different price tears within the country. Additionally, I have found that the only time I’ve hit that suggested power consumption is if it’s only text on screen (white black) and no sound.

No possible way for the image to look $5000 better than comparable competitors' options.
Your paying for SIZE
I just got the 85 inch two days ago, and loving it! Wouldn’t pay street price, I got it for $1,490 through Samsung with multiple discounts.
I'd rather pay more and get less then pay less and get more- Wise saying
@@michael-4k4000 compared to what, oh wise one?
Could you please do a comparison on Samsung tvs inbuilt calibration function on the tv which you use your phone camera to setup, compared to your pro calibration tools. I used this function with my old iPhone 11 on my 65” S95B when I first bought the tv in 2022 and think it looks good but wondering if it’s worth getting it professionally calibrated?
How many dimming zones does this 98" model have?
There is a 98" 8K in the UK the Q990C it's 35k!
One of the few American reviewers who doesn't do reviews with theatrics and hyperbole.
awesome looking TV.
Thanks!
Will you be reviewing the TCL Qm8 98 inch also?
Samsung Q90D vs S90D which should i get
Nice riding that Samsungs 98 inch in the thumbnail 👍
Can you please do a test of what multi-screen view looks like using the ESPN app on the Apple TV? Thanks
I viewed this TV and the TCL QM8 in the same size side by side and I could not see the $5K difference and both TV's were calibrated!
This is why brands like TCL and Hisense are succesful, the difference to A brands is not as great as people think, and the price difference is another big factor.
@@stargazer3828 98” qm8 is 5k in the USA currently?
@@jody024TCL and Hisense don’t do anything other can’t. They manufacture on velocity. Make it really fast and therefore cheap. The $5k difference is really a $3k difference in cost. So that $5k you saved becomes another $5k to spend in less times you should have to spend $5k.
You are paying for the Samsung magic! Poof
What's the movie playing at 16:50?
Samsung is ditching tizen in TV? Can't find any other news source, can someone elaborate on that
shoutout to Zeke and Chris also 👍👍
Hi Caleb, What's the real difference between QN90D and QN91D? 🤔
4:49 Samsung actually does make an 8K version in the 98 inch size. It’s the QN98QN990c (they carried it over from ‘23 hence the C). It retails for an astronomical 40 THOUSAND…..
How far do you have to be in "meters " from this size TV
where is that fluted background from?
One UI is out on the Samsung QN90C in Canada!
Samsung dropping Tizen, what will it be replaced with and will only new TV’s receive the OS or previous TV’s as well.
Please do the cell phone calibration vs your calibration and let us know how it goes
Always kills me when Caleb uses the ladder to reach the stickers on the tv when he can literally stand there and pull them off with ease 😅😅
No wall mount points??
cant wait to hear the rest of your review. Im getting this tv next month. I bougth on sale in Denmark for 6000 dollars. YES. crazy offer i couldnt say no to. Im getting a home cinema so cant wait get it next month. Also in 98 inch by the way. And normalt price here is 15000 dollars.
Cant wait to hear more from you soon.

That is a beautiful speaker, what brand is it?
soooo, does that price come with a lifetime warranty?
That price is enough to give a mini heart attack 😂😂 immediately
I currently have the s90d 77-in. I heard that the QD-OLED screens are easy to scratch I just looked at mine with the screen off with the flashlight and I have two scratches.
I am a samsung fan boy for sure having my last four phones an ear buds bing samsung not to mention my last several m.2 and external hard drives. They make great products. I don't know about an extra five thousand dollars though, maybe two grand , but not five.
Such a huge price differential between the 98 inch and the 85 inch version. I sweet talked the chat person into an additional 10% off on top of military/first responder pricing from the Samsung website and ordered the 85 inch for $1656 before sales tax last night. Best price for the 85 inch QN90D anywhere. (shipping is free).
why is the price showing around 40k on the website??
It is a lot of fun to see these really big screens reviewed. In all honesty though, anything larger than 65" is *not* practical in my house 😅
😂😂😂 great lie. Hisense rep ?
I’m surprised they haven’t done a 98 inch version of the QN900D(8k) tv.
wow what a picture realistic crystal clear 😮
Can it be put on the wall?
I just bought an 85 inch TCL for US500 including bracket and installation, that’s why I love GZ, China.
The fact that the 98 in QN990C 8K is "sold out" at a price tag of $40k is wild. Hope the whole 5 people that bought them make reviews on them soon lol
I love the HDR but the motion blur was kinda distracting. Faster shutter speed please lol
Best Buy currently has this for $9k which is still an insane price jump from the $2300 for the 85" model.
Sonos arc ultra full home setup review please!
“My kitchen.” Caleb, do you actually live there? That’s dedication.
Right speaker must have been misbehaving.....was banished to the other room! 😂😂😂
Imagine how heavy and energuide cost a 98” plasma would have?
I have long wondered if there had been R&D into plasma TVs for the last 15 years, would the technology have kept up with OLED and other premium televisions, or would there be some inherent technological limitations that are impossible to overcome from a basic physics point of view
Stopped watching as soon as i heard pricing, not in my league im fine with an 85” thanks Caleb!
Those electricity costs I definitely misleading, it should always come down to watts since people are at a different price tears within the country. Additionally, I have found that the only time I’ve hit that suggested power consumption is if it’s only text on screen (white black) and no sound.
That ‘test’ video on TH-cam, which one is that?
Yeah, the Hisense-98" Class UX Series 4K Mini-LED ULED UHD Google TV (2024) is $5000 right now ($3000 off!). Samsung is a tough sell these days, and I have the Samsung 85" QN85B. To be clear, I am a huge Samsung fan, but Hisense is just killing it.
U8K is at $3299 at BB right now. It would have to be really good to be worth 3 of the Hisense.
