    Rachel. Really like and appreciate this Video. I know your focus is selling but do you think you could do more breeding videos of apisto's, Corey's, tetras, rainbows. Out of all your videos, these are always my favorite. Some old timers(not you) don't like to share. Please do more of these and let us see your success or some of your friends success. Oh is also a big question and if it is truly important or just clean water. Thanks again!

      I plan to! The videos are just more impressive when I either catch the spawning, the eggs, or newly released fry. I just haven't been on the ball enough to catch all the different parts of the cycle yet though I continue to keep accruing footage to make more of these type videos.

    Synodontis are probably my favorite catfish. I have been thinking about working with a few Plecos. Not sure which ones yet I'm still doing my research. Probably species no bigger than 6 inches. I use to have a crap load of tanks when I was younger and I have a feeling that's going to happen again lol. There's other species I want to work with as well. Mouth brooding Bettas, West African dwarf cichilds and Apistogrammas.

    Not to be a bugaboo Rachel, but have you had anytime to look through the pallet of manzanita wood as yet? What you send me really doesn't matter athstetically, as long as it's 6-10 inches in length and has enough room to attach a rhizome.

    I'm worried about my common pleco. My ex got him to help "keep the turtle tank clean" when he was a precious 3" kiddo. Long story short, 4 years later I'm the caretaker of all the animals (thank goodness). Dragon (the pleco) has been upgraded from a 20g long to a 40g breeder. I'm planning up upgrading that to a 75g in the next 6 months.
    Anyway, he's been seemingly doing great up until about 3 or 4 days ago. Now he seems more pale, and even though he's still quite active at night he seems more lethargic overall. My gut is saying that since he's sharing a tank with mollies and all their fry he's not getting enough to eat?
    I have a spare 29 gallon tank that I could put him in solo so there wouldn't be any competition for calories. Do you have any advice on how best to do this, if it's the right move? I have plenty of seasoned decorations/substrate/filter media to speed up the tank's maturation...
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    when they do successfully breed and you have 1-3 spawns in that tank , how often would you recommend to do water changes? I have 1 spawn group in a 20G tank and they poop SO much. Theres always this mulm or poop buildup nearly every day even after water changes. In fact I think they purposefully poop even more after I do the water changes ! But would it be healthy to do 60+ percent water changes daily?

Should I get any caves even tho I don't have any thoughts of breeding tho? Also, I have a snub nose L201that I got from a breeder with a promise not to breed. I think they are really cute. What do you think about snub nose plecos?

    • @RachelOLeary
      @RachelOLeary  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Snubbies can be cute. Its just from a defect in the shell. Remember, even if you don't INTEND to breed your plecos, if they can, they will so be cautious of hybridization :)

    I see 55g tanks being used as breeding tanks for small plecos (especially fancy plecos) a lot of the time. Do they really need that much room or would a 10g-20g be okay?

    • @RachelOLeary
      @RachelOLeary  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      33 long is even better, 40 breeder is best- but it really depends on if you are setting up a pair or trio or a whole colony. FOr a pair or trio- 20 long is fine (again, 33 long is better) but for a colony you would want a 40breeder. The males get VERY territorial over their caves and the biggest issue is the waste they produce- dilution is the solution to pollution, lol

    • @Supdoode
      @Supdoode 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve Miller you can’t have to many together, they like being alone when they hit a mature age but don’t mind being with other fish so they fight with other plecos and you still have to feed them in a tank cause it doesn’t produce enough algae for them to eat

      Not for ANY pleco species, as its a huge family of fish and various types utilize different breeding strategies- for instance, some species bury in the banks of rivers. This DOES apply to ancistrus, hypancistrus, panaqolus, and similar

      Thank you again so much for the response! I'll keep looking for something else. I'd like to eventually add a fun exotic pleco to a Central and South American community tank, but would like something that would be seen often. I have a bristlenose that isn't shy at all and is a beast when it comes to keeping algae simply gone. It's a warmer water tank, I keep my temperature around 83 degrees due to keeping German blue rams, with driftwood and low to medium light plants.
