    Good video. I have the PRO-200 for light use. Love it overall, color results are outstanding, maintenance ink is minimal, and good B&W can be achieved with some trail and error. I have a calibrated screen. My favorite general purpose paper is the Canon Pro Semi-Gloss (SG-201)

    I've had my printer for a few years and it's worked great for me. Just one gripe; the buffer memory seems to be too small. It takes forever to process a larger print. Not talking about the printing time but the time it takes it to process it for printing. Is there a way to increase the internal memory?

    Hey Jon, thanks for the nice video. Does this printer require any particular maintenance? Does it auto-clean the print heads too often or waste too much ink in this process? I'm asking because I really do not intend to print so often, so it is likely the printer will be sitting still for a month or two between a "print frenzy".

      I'd probably try to find a pro 10 or 100 instead as the Inks can be more easily replaced as the chips can be reset easily. Otherwise you'd have to rely on 3rd party ink monitors.

The Epson Layout and print, when I size my pic to the right size, the margin are equal and it looks nice, but the Canon Pro 200 I can't seem to have control own the margin, Although I center it , chose Image slot position size, checked Mainting Slot aspect ratio but I still need to manually resize the slot zie using fill slots with image. I'm working with my 3rd Canon 200 in 8 years. t gets a lot of work. I only use it with a hard wite connection as I have machines lose connection mid print with wifi. The Dye based inks and Canon semi gloss give me salable prints and my own B&w architecture images are almost as good as the pigment based prints tha I made with my Epson at a fractin of the waste/cost. I used to talk to Kodak techs about C41 prints and the claim that they were "archival" (expected to last 100 years). The Techs assured me that I would be long dead before the prints faded. $600 though. I bought a Canon PRO 100 last year for $50 from a guy that had several PRO 1000 and the 100 wasn't being used. I bought a refill kit from Precision Colors and have been happily been printing at a much lower cost than buying Canon cartridges.

      For $50 for I assume a working PRO-100 is a good deal. For everyone else, used PRO-100s go for over $400 including shipping. Compared to a new PRO-200 at $600 that is not even close to worth it. I don't use non-OEM for my work. I am either giving it to customer or using it for longer term use, both situations where I won't use non-OEM ink. I know Precision Colors makes some good colors that match, but has questionable light fastness depending on the color used

    I have this printer. I absolutely hate it. It’s always something with this printer. You need to have just the right amount of paper in it or it says it’s out of paper. Too much or too little and you’re gonna get the out-of-paper notice. And it burns ink like it’s going out of style. The ink boxes are $105 a pack and the printer is constantly asking for them to be replaced. Also, if the printer says it’s low on ink, you better replace it or it’s gonna mess up your print job. If you’ve got a lot of free time and like playing with your printer more than you like to print, this is the printer for you.

    • @jonlow

      I have a different experience from what you are going through. I only load paper from the top feed 1 by 1. That's maybe because I am printing on these A3 photo papers, and I load them as I need them. I get really great print results from the printer. Last week, I've printed a graduation portrait, and the print was gorgous. The bulk of time was use to prepare the photo in lightroom. As I hit print, it came out flawlessly - 1st try. So, dunno. I had a different experience from where you are coming from.

    • @jonlow
      @jonlow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Angela, I am not printing for archival purposes. I don't suppose my prints will last as long as it would be in UV glasses, acid paper, and pigment ink. I would reasonably anticipate that a dye ink print on these canon paper would last me a last time when I am hanging these indoor in my house ;). Sometimes, when I think about the way I use my prints - I don't need to add those as I don't foresee these will be printed to last few life time. Maybe I would regret it - I don't know ;)

    First the bk, then the pm, then the y, this printer has been more time off than printing. And the worst part its that the cartridges are EXPENSIVE, VERY EXPENSIVE.

    One Canon cartridge last no more than 7 days compared with the Epson that last ONE MONTH!!
