One thing to keep in mind for photographers looking to get into printing your photos, your computer screen is back lit so the photo file viewed on your computer will be lighter than your prints, because prints are not back lit but reflect light.

Dear Jon, Thank you so much for the comparison! the colors and details are absolutely amazing!! Recently I have also bought the same model of printer and printed on the pro-luster, although i have used the reccomended ICC profile, the colors still seem a little off from the screen. Do you have any tips on how to edit the photos before printing? After color editing the raw file on lightroom, would you export them as Jpeg and then saved as CMYK file on photoshop and print with the recommended ICC or do you simply just hit print (as RGB) after the color editing on lightroom? It'll be so grateful to have your thoughts and share on it!! Thank you so much!
I prefer the Canon Pro Semi-Gloss (SG-201) over the Pro Luster (LU-101). The two are very similar but I prefer the more neutral texture on the Semi-Gloss. PRO Platinum is so glossy, but too many OBAs for my taste in general, but it certainly has it place if you want super gloss. The Canon Pro Semi-Gloss (SG-201) is my go to for many tasks, and with the right settings works well for B&W as well. Getting a sampler pack from Canon or others (Red River has many) is a good way for new user to find out what they like.

I gotta say that these printer do consume ink quite a bit - not out of my expectations. The short 7 to 8 months that I am using the printer, I have change the cartridges once, full set, with about half tank left for most of the ink. You are not missing much from the naked eye if you print with the pro-100 ;) . The user interface on the pro 200 is better. We know what the printer is up to with the LCD display
On my Canon 200 I use Canon photo paper when it on sale, luster is my favorite for the reasons you stated, for the most part I use photo paper from Redriver photo paper, they have a wide variety of paper in many different sizes.

Interesting, but the only way to truly compare is to print the SAME picture on all formats to show how one image reacts to each paper. Printing different pictures on different formats is not a comparison. Also, would suggest you arrange your lights so that the images are flat on the floor without lights directly above reflecting back into the camera. Thanks
Hey Jon just bought this printer and was wonder what two programs you are using for this and where can I get them. I noticed you're using a apple laptop but I use windows on a PC I built.
The softwares come with the Canon Pixma Pro 200, and they are available to download at their official website: www.usa.canon.com/support/p/pixma-pro-200#idReference%3Dsoftware-drivers . I am using the Professional Print & Layout tool that canon provides.

I think they are shortage of it. The paper is a ball and I love them. I don’t think it is discontinued. There are other cotton base paper alternative also

I am more of a cotton base paper kinda person. I like that the print gives textures and contrast. To each their own actually. I can understand landscape photographer printing granite rock mountain with a sunset backing with a nice smooth glossy paper ;)

No I have not heard about Crystal Grace paper. Ahhhhh ;) hrmmmm.... now you got me curious. And some papers from canon are rebatch from other products - Like the Museum etch are actually Hanemulle's so - not surprise it's actually fuji crystal chrome
When I first saw the color images from a pigment ink Canon printer I can not tell you how disappointed I was and am. You can't beat dye based ink that is ironically is not considered professional? (yes I know why but........)

I admit I stopped watching when I saw you were printing different pictures but mentioning the archival properties of each would have been useful (you didn't mention it for the first one so I assume you didn't for the rest).

I had problem finding the paper. I've just configure to use the Premium Fine Art Rough as it was the closest.

I’ve just convert my photo to black and white and didn’t change the icc profile tho. Not sure if that’s the right thing to do but it works for me

Looks like the Canon software you can have as a stand alone app or as a plug-in for Lightroom or Photoshop.Also had that same question.
Whats the difference between fine art smooth and fine art rough?
The surface texture is rougher on the rough, where else fine art smooth has almost no bump
