    These videos as a whole are incredible. This one in particular has opened me up to finally using MIDI properly. Whereas before I just felt lost and frustrated, thus only ever using audio, never MIDI. You have seriously opened up a whole new universe in this video, and I thank you Josh.

    I'm not sure if you cover this question in one of the tutorial videos but, if you have multiple USB MIDI keyboards and want to dedicate one of them to a software track and record midi on to that track (or, for that matter, dedicating separate controllers to dedicated software tracks and recording multiple tracks simultaneously), how does one accomplish this...I am used to doing this in Ableton Live where it is rather simple...not sure how you do it here.

  • @benjaminpham8100
    @benjaminpham8100 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm new to using music production softwares. I'm not sure if this is addressed in any of your videos because I can't seem to find it but I just got a MIDI controller and when I'm playing there's a delay that I can't seem to figure out how to fix. If tried changing the I/O buffer size and tried checking the MIDI delay settings in the advanced preference settings but no luck.

    Hi, thanks for you're lessons,they are great!
    i wonder if you can help me out,i want to customize drum kits in ultrabeat,drum kit designer and so one and play them with my v drums so is it possible to keep the midi notes nr for each pad but change the ones in logic so i can assigne the voices i want to the kit and quickly change between kits without changing midi notes on the drum module? Thanks Chris

    @MusicTechHelpGuy when i try to record a four bar midi sequence using a plugin, why does the sequencer choke when it loops back around? It cuts off the first midi note when recording but when the sequencer plays back I hear the first midi note. Its frustrating cause i just want to set up a four bar loop, record a midi track, then keep adding midi tracks to that, similar to how you sequence on an MPC drum machine.

    So, if my iMac is recognizing the interface, and so does Logic X, but I am still not getting sound, do you think I need to try 32 bit mode? I have Mavericks 10.9.4 and I am running a Yamaha YPT-220 through a Tascam iUR2 interface; it worked fine on my macbook 4.1 with Logic Pro 9.

    @wjlljamam 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello. Very good your tutorial, congratulations. But there is an
    important question that still can not dominate with Logic, something
    that is very easy on Cakewalk Sonar for example, which is the management
    of midi channels, with several VST and external midi and audio simultaneously to a
    live presentation. I appreciate if you can give a light about as often
    does not respond as specified channels, even activating "auto Demix" in
    recording. Many times only respond when selecting particular track, and
    if you selected another, even though all with active record, no response
    all channels. Thanks

    this is a very well made video. you sir are very well spoken. there is a specific "rhythm" or "beat" in some metal music that i was wondering what its called when you want to quantize to that rhythm. its not a basic 4/4 rhythm. if you could please help me out with that i would be forever thankful. its the rhythm to songs like "origin of escape by Monuments," "Lilith by The Royal" and "Monstro by Heart of a Coward." Thanks man I would really appreciate that

    I do have a question though: In ep. 25 you were showing how to copy an automation with the Automation Select Tool. I did that and it worked fine. But later I tried it again but forgot to pick the Tool and was still with the pointer tool. But the selecting and copying worked the same way! So now I'm wondering what the difference is between those two tools. Do you have any idea?

    • @MusicTechHelpGuy
      @MusicTechHelpGuy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it worked with the Pointer tool, it probably means that the automation your moved was already selected. Normally the pointer tool can be used to create new automation.

    Your videos are huge, game changer for me. I've been searching for a video that talks about Logic midi where I have sequences on my external keyboard I want to dump into logic. but I need Logic to control my board when I start recording. Another way to say that is I set my keyboard (korg triton) to external midi control, but I dont know how to make where I hit record in Logic and it starts my keyboard sequences so the timing is correct with all my sound sequences. Do you have a video about that?

  • @freeworld1875

    I have a silly question, maybe some one can help. I like to record without a click, say a midi drum part for example. Once that's down how do I adjust logic's tempo to perfectly fit the recorded drum part? With audio you can click on "detect tempo of region", but that doesn't work with midi (window doesn't pop up).

      If you start on Logic 9 like I did, there's no way to get those channel strip presets. However, Logic X has plenty of instrument presets in the Library window (which loads on the left).

      ***** Unless you sample the external instrument note by note and rebuild the instrument in a sampler in Logic, it's not possible. You can however, use an editor/librarian software to save patches on your computer; however, this doesn't transfer the sound patch, it just saves it as a program number.Usually when I'm working with external instruments, I use the external MIDI track, which will eventually be covered.

I have an audo interface that it's set up as the input and output audio for the whole system, as so to any DAW I use. The MIDI keyboard controller is connected directly to the Mac, through USB. Everything plays fine but no input audio on the screen recording app from any software instrument, only audio input from connected audio synths. What am I doing wrong?

      I have no clue, unless you saved the patch somewhere, and then deleted it.

    How do you record the drum machines? I open up a hip hot template and play the sound but I can't figure out how to actually record it.

      Arm the track (press R icon on the track) and press R on your keyboard to record. If you're using Ultrabeat, you can use the feature where you can drop the pattern down into the Arrange Window. You might want to start here: Logic Pro 9 - Step Sequencing in Ultrabeat

      I can record anything else. I've learned a lot from your tutorials but I can't record the drum machines. I've seen a lot of other people have the same problem. Fro example, I'm using the drum maching/Vox Box I can play but not record. Please do a tutorial on this. I've seen a lot of videos showing the drum machines off but none show how to record.

      You record it like any other MIDI instrument. Arm the track, press record, play. I'm sorry, I'm never seen/had this problem before.
