In my 30s (40 years ago) I moved from a crowded-but-large studio apartment into a 24-foot travel trailer. It took me a year to dispose of the excess. Those were the best 2-1/2 years of my life! Recently, Fumio Sasaki's book Goodbye, Things re-inspired me. I re-read it often; and I watch your videos and others. Enjoy that trip!
I found that when I cleaned house, I would move the same things from place to place. If things don’t have a regular, permanent, and sensible place, then they aren’t needed. In the past 5 years, my spouse and I have discarded so much, and the house seems so much bigger.
1. Owning less doesn't mean you are less 2. Be aware of unhealthy thinking patterns 3. Ask yourself 6 questions before buying anything 4. Address judgement and criticism 5.Prioritize experiences over things 6. Consume minimalist content 7.Re-evaluate
I was born this way. I have always preferred a simple minimalist life. A word to the wise: If you are like me, beware of choosing a partner who values impressing others (often their friends and family members). Breaking off these relationships in order to live a life that is meaningful to you can be heartbreaking and stressful. Don’t ask me how I know.
“Experience over things” is a common trope that gets said in the minimalist community but it’s absolutely dependent on individual personality. I just don’t want people who are introverted to think they need to travel the globe in order to have a good life. You have to know thyself and tailor your life to your brain/personality if you’re trying to maximize your happiness. Don’t let a bunch of people who have drastically different personalities than you tell you what’s best. I’m not saying you need to collect a bunch of things. But let’s not pretend that having a bunch of different “experiences” is the key either. At some point you can only remember so many vacations so let’s not pretend that having one more is gonna give your life meaning, anymore than having one more object in your house will.
100%, find what brings meaning and purpose in your life and go toward that! I aim to say in my videos that these are just my views and opinions, not one size fits all answers to life. Self-awareness is the key 🌿
Visit my country Sri Lanka, many people just live a minimalist life, not by choice but because of circumstances in our country. It's very valuable to see different parts of the world to understand gratitude.Thank you for sharing your experience, always stay blessed!🙏
This video came at the exact time it was needed most. Without this content, I would be lost in life. I wish I had the time and energy to read books on this topic, but I don't. Thank you so much for this video. It is truly helping people who need it the most. When everybody is caught up in this horrible excuse of a culture of consumerism and greed, we can finally have good reason to walk away from all of it.
I love the 6. consume minimalist content.... because that´s so true - and it's more approachable than the advice "hang around with likeminded ppl" ...unfortunately I don´t have likeminded people around me, so as you say...it really helps me to consume that content, to stay inspired and motivated. Thank you so much for bringing this up:) much love 🧡
So cool this, #6 is my biggest challenge to find a minimalist like minded like me….. ( I live on a small island) I do read, watch and comment a lot but ow I dream to someday meet someone I can sit and talk with. That would be so satisfying.
Yeah, I used to struggle with that a lot. By just reaching out to people and searching for opportunities now I am surrounded by like minded people. Hope you could meet some at least online 🤗
Thank you, great video! The points you make really resonated with me. Expecially the first 'owning less doesnt mean you are less' and the final 're-evaluate often'. I agree its so important to reflect regularly. I also love the question...'would the best version of me buy this'. Its something I'll use not just in relation to buying, but also doing! Thanks 😊
I love the content shared in this video. What you have shared aligns with my lifestyle. However, it is difficult having individuals who are heavy consumers around me.
I can understand that! Hope you'll be able to find some like minded people or at least stay inspired to live aligned with your own values. Thank you! 🌿
Great talk ; its so valuable. I fully know its true but I easily slip out of it, but that's ok ; the beauty of a minimalist mindset is that its its always there for you, waiting with open arms. Yearning for acceptance and releasing, and that is very relieving.
- I think the mindset behind the consumism , is the impulse to reach another level . But , develop habillities , do it better. Ironicaly, pratíciing well those habilities, can also promote financial wealth . This is the hard decicion! How to balance that!
I love to live with less, when i get some more money, i pass it to music and literature and charities. But i still have a tendency to buy books and invest in them. I don't lend them, but prefer to give away money.
I want to know more ab how you deal with educational investment. Like when I cannot affort some courses right now, do I wait to save up enough money or can I use credit card to study first? 😢😢
🎉 thanks for video. Your content gave me a spark in my hard life. I am just started thinking in different way. Regards from Poland😊 U should visit my country as well.
No, traveling is not a necessity for life. It's an expense that one can live fine without. Its entertainment. So I would not include it in a minimalistic life. Any costs that are not absolutely necessary for life, can be trash canned. If you are a minimalist then be so in every sphere of your life, with no exceptions.
@@Books_and_olfactory Simple Living by Necessity Growing up in a modest household, I learned to carefully consider my wants and needs. This frugality became ingrained in me. Minimalism resonates deeply with my lifestyle and outlook on life. I'm not driven to acquire possessions for show, only for practical use - mainly food. Despite the Pakistani heat and humidity, I manage without a refrigerator, air conditioning, car (though I have a motorcycle), property, or even use a fan in summer. Winters are heater-free as well. Previous Years total expenses = approximately 849.67 USD Previous Year's average monthly expenses = approximately 70.81 USD Thanks for your interest! Have a wonderful day!
Yeah I get your point of view. At least for me minimalism is not about living with only the absolute necessary items to survive life but intentionally have things in my life that bring true value. I live in the country that was found the happiest country 7th time in a row - Finland. You can imagine how much I'd know about "real" life without travelling and seeing other cultures, their lifestyles, life circumstances and countries. The gratitude and life lessons I get from these trips are of course not necessary for me to stay alive but still they bring an immense amount of value to me which I can share to people in my social circle and here on TH-cam. If we are talking about the usual 7-day beach holiday trips to the Bahamas with 5-star all-inclusive hotels, those are not my thing either 😄
What inspired you to start living with less? 🌿

Life is beautiful. We overcomplicate it so much. Stay Uncommon!

The tale of the two monks brought me to tears. “Why are you still carrying her”……. Never had such a significant realization.
Yeah it's so powerful! 🌱🙏

I basically never bought anything I couldn't afford. But this is my way of doing things, you have to see the pros and cons
Dont use credit card. Trust me its not worth it
If the answer to can I afford it is no, then the answer is don't buy it.
