This has happened to me a few times in similar situations. Best solution is to drop your tyre pressure. My 4x4 tyres are typically around 40psi. When towing off road or fields I drop them at first to about 18psi and go from there. This vastly increases your tyre footprint and offers much traction. Especially if you have 4wd.
You can lower them further if need be for example if your on soft soft sand but keep them above 7-10 psi to keep it safe. Lowering tyre pressures work better than any diff lock or mud terrain tyre I've had, It increases traction, prevents tyre damage and can really save the day. Next suggestion would be a max track board or waffle board etc under the rear wheels in you case.
Wasn’t the hand brake, the hitch got stuck back that activated the brakes and didn’t release when driven forward... still lack of maintenance on my part 😂

One very simple tip - never put your van in storage with the handbrake on

My 2penneth. Next time, slap a towrope on the caravan and keep the car on the roady bit until you get the caravan closer. Or fit a winch!
