  • Last year I was honoured to be invited for a factory tour at BAiley of Bristol caravans. I asked if I could fil and after some negotiation Bailey agreed and here is the result.
Bailey build their caravans and motorhomes in two facilities, this part shows the large panel plant on the outskirts of Bristol. On this particular day the production line was set up to build the Bailey Phoenix 640, and i followed one of the lines to see how the process works.

Love our Bailey Unicorn Barcelona and very proud to be part of the Bailey owners family. Having said that, I think it is very impressive how these modern caravans are made and regardless of the brand of UK Caravan you own...it is pure British engineering! Thanks from NZ.

Interesting video Dan, it's nice to see how they are built from the ground up so to speak. It would be great if Swift, Elddis, Coachman, Lunar etc would also allow you to film their production lines, just to see the different construction methods for each manufacturer.

I know Bailey have caravans out there with new floors they are testing out but you would have thought that they would have done it several years ago. I reckon the new 8ft unicorn will have some type of weatherproof floors this will put Bailey ahead of the market if the price is right. I’m looking forward to the next video Dan and thanks for sharing.

Great video, I didn’t realise the Australian panels are built in UK...in Australia there a big marketing push about the vans being built locally, I guess that means assembling only.

  • @MarkHartley78

We have a 2020 Unicorn Black Edition Cadiz . We are pleased with it EXCEPT for the absolutely awful poor quality seating ( which i see they are improving in every range for 2021 EXCEPT THE UNICORN RANGE which will still have the same Honeycore TOTALLY UNSUPPORTIVE FOAM.)
After only 2 weeks we HAD TO PAY to replace the foam in a brand new van as we found out from our dealer that by returning under warranty its only changed for absolutely identical low grade foam the same as it was before . ( Phoenix upholstery made by a different firm and I believe much firmer which would have been better )
We had very painful bad backs after only a week away in our lovely new caravan.
Our dealer has been great but their hands are tied as they can only offer like for like replacement or advise us to pay ourselves!
Bailey will not speak to me , if you ring you are told that Customer services do not allow incoming calls , when you email you get a generic reply with a few changes in an attempt to placate us.
I have now started a Facebook group for Bailey owners with the same issue and in 48 hours we had around 300 members .
Lots saying they just dont use their caravans as they know they will suffer back pain ! What a sad state of affairs.
When our local upholsterer ( with an excellent reputation) took out the original foam he was absolutely shocked , he saved a piece to show me . He confirmed it has zero support quality and is full of holes .
I wish i could add photos, you could literally screw up the original seats in your hand as they are so thin .
We need help Dan, any chance you can get in touch ?
Our FB group is Bailey Caravans Upholstery Fight .
    Thanks

Interesting how hi tech the process of making and cutting out the sides, it’s a shame they then fill them with poor quality locker doors etc that fall apart and leak !
