Hi Andrew, this is a great video, illustrating how you methodically got a great improvement. On a newer Heckel bassoon I had a good match with CD and VCD german silver bocals, a CD goldbrass (not gold coated unfortunately) even better brought out the singing quality, but eventually a Leitzinger FZ bocal came out on top. Maybe your quest is not over yet!
Thanks for watching! Sounds like you had some fun trying quite a few bocals! I think my search for the moment is over, but you never know. If I suddenly start playing a lot more on my heckel in different contexts, then I might start another search.
Interesting. I spy fastenings for magic spoons. I guess you tried with and without them? I use a set between the long joint and the bell which I find makes a real difference depending on positioning, but between the wing and the crook it makes all of my crooks quite stiff. BTW, I play on #5821 which looks identical to your instrument!
Yes, exactly! I've found that they do help response in the high register and to help 'center' the sound in the tenor register, but they are such a pain to put on the bocal that I often go without them.
Thoughtful and well presented,Andrea. As always!
Grazie Mille, Cristoforo!
Yes! This video is a long wait but really informative and fun to watch. Thanks, Andrew!
Thanks for your patience!
Thank you For this a great video.Andrew Burn
