  • One advantage of having the same videos every month is that you know how to structure them for them to flow well. This isn't one of those videos. I'm still trying to figure out how to talk about these inks and pens in a cohesive, concise way. Today I tried to talk about the pens and ink combinations, and my overall findings, and then I needed to add my two cents to the current discussion of fountain pen burnout and the minimalist collection trend.
    Pens and Inks:

Nagasawa Gearske - Sailor Shikiori Hara hara
    Esterbrook Estie - BPC Aqueduct

    Lamy Safari - Wearingeul Sedna
Platinum 3776 - Pilot Iroshizuku Yama budo

For me, and probably others as well, what occurs to you as “clunky” works for us. So many of our lives are “clunky” and I would much rather watch you work out your thoughts as you talk through it, than just watch curated Currently Inked and unboxing videos. Please continue to do what works for your life without worrying so much about how the videos are formatted. It’s obviously working for those of us who never miss a video.

I love THIS video of yours so much. First, the way you’re approaching using your pens and inks. I love creating videos about my antics and the things I think about as I love my FP hobby life. I think we can all, at some point, get caught up in trying to play to something we think we should, following a prescribed way. I’m so glad you addressed this at the end. The bane of the game for me is FUN. That’s it. If nobody likes what I put out, that’s okay cause I sure enjoyed myself 😆 I’ve recently said “no thx for now” to someone who wanted to send samples and felt feel so, so bad saying that, but I have so many I really want to enjoy AND use the ones I have. She understood but still…..
I think you and a few others letting us know it’s okay to enjoy our journey in the hobby, however we walk it, is important to say. If we want to cull our collection, then so do but not because everyone is doing it but because it works for us. Thank you for voicing your thoughts.

Thank you for saying that we all enjoy the hobby in our own way. I’m only just starting out in journaling and in fountain pens and I’ve seen so many videos on both about cutting down and only having the bare minimum that I was starting to feel really bad about buying things to try. It’s fine if someone’s been in the hobby for years and has tried everything, if they want to pare it back, that’s good for them. But that’s not where I am. I don’t work in a stationery shop or a pen shop, so I don’t get to try things at work.
Thank you so much Simone, I feel better now.

I really like how you describe it: “I produce videos of the things that I am doing.” This has been on my mind a lot since my 30inks experience in April, and I’m trying to work out the details for how my content will change because of my experiences.

It's fluctuating because we change and adapting to that is key to keep it fun, interesting and doable for me.

Hello Simone, I ist like when you share your thoughts! It makes me thinking, too. Although I have no bad feelings with my pen collection, I have with my ink samples. Because I just don’t like most of the inks- and that’s why I’m so thankful for samples! Only if I really love the ink I’ll buy a bottle.
And I don’t want to use these sorted out sample inks anymore. Ever.
Oh no- so you have already the Lamy Gold nibs! And of course you convinced me with your writing samples.
For the style you made this video I have no critics, it’s a very good presentation of the inks and pens and you always have so many ink examples on different paper. I felt it was very well-structured

Appreciate the clunk, 1000% - I loved watching your process and thoughts around the project itself, nibs, and about fountain pen content creation. I'm still trying to figure that out as well; the monthly thing does make the most sense for me since I also like to change up my planner theme every month - that's where I do the most writing on a daily basis so I definitely want to compliment that, but I do want to explore having other "steady" pens inked as well. Not sure what that looks like for me just yet, but I'm so glad you brought that up in general.

Honestly, that is what I see - everyone being overwhelmed with inks than pens. I used to feel sad I have only 2 inks & one concoction I like. But, like you said, I need to appreciate it before going onto the next step. I def felt this during my stationery hobby now I have too many stickers and washi I dont use. I am def going to use that philosophy in all aspects of life. Enjoy the things I have. I do that with clothes, makeup and books but not with everything else :33

It's very hard to resist the temptation of buying pretty new inks. Many of us have learned the hard way to buy a sample before buying a bottle, every time. I have too many bottles of ink which my usage has evolved past.

Thanks for the intel on the Lamy gold nibs - I’ve been considering getting one and now definitely on the list.
I’ve been playing along with your inkdown, on a smaller scale (and no videos). It’s made me a realize - a 4ml sample is a TON of ink especially because I usually do half fills. I think I’m slowly moving toward “permanent pairings” of ink + pen. Anyway, these videos are great to watch.

As I said, I think it is an amazing gold nib and should get more attention than it does.

  • @ichirofakename

    1. Sounds like you found a winner in the Lamy gold nibs.
    2. A huge factor in how often I change my inks is how much I hate cleaning pens.
    3. I wonder if you kept samples in vials in a place that was super humid, would they evaporate/darken less. Perhaps a cigar humidor...
    4. Maybe there's another use for inks outside of pens, if you want to consume them. For example, I've taken to doing large watercolor paintings with ink. Though it doesn't use up ink as fast as I'd like, it's definitely faster than via pens.

    • @seemownay
      @seemownay  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      1. Yes, I did. I think I found what I was looking for.
      2. I don't mind cleaning pens.
      3. I wonder that too. Maybe it wouldn't matter that much because plastic vials are more porous than glass bottles ... maybe I'm on the wrong track completely because there are also full size ink bottles that are plastic, do they have the same problem?
      4. Yes, there are other uses but I don't have time to explore those avenues at the moment and I'd rather someone else uses them.

So glad you like the Syo-ro (at least enough to keep it!). I can tell from the handwriting that that sample was from me.😁 It's an ink I always have inked up, usually in my Lamy 2000. I prefer it over the very popular Kon-peki. That date washi tape with the characters is adorable -- they remind me of children's book illustrations.
