- I'm checking in with my reading journal and recommending a fun book-related website. I'm deciding to let go of my Daily Snippets Journal, it's not working and I'm sharing about the Black Milk Project Mystery Box. While trying to decorate my weekly spread, I share what has occupied my mind, why I'm not stopping unboxing videos, and what I have learned from past hobbies to prevent burnout in a specific hobby. Of course, this applies to me, but maybe it applies to you too.
The book I read last week:
Amy Jo Burns - Mercury amzn.to/3UhAfxw
The books I DNFed last week:
Harrison Scott Key - How to Stay Married amzn.to/3UDxIOc
Brandon Sanderson - Tress of the Emerald Sea amzn.to/3UCnOMW
The book I'm currently reading:
Robert Jackson Bennett - The Tainted Cup amzn.to/44kXKt1

Other people’s opinions don’t matter- do what makes you happy. If people don’t like specific content they should skip it. I personally love your content! I have learned so much by watching your videos and feel like I’m with a friend when I listen to your chats. Please keep doing what you enjoy and know that there are MANY people who enjoy it too! 😊
Sorry you've had upsetting comments. I'm grateful for your sharing. I don't have people that share my (emerging) interest in pens and inks, so I get a lot from you and your community. Thank you for the parts of you that you share with us. It makes me feel like we can talk pens and inks and pretty stickers over coffee (or wine!) should we ever be in the same place ❤😊
Wow! I didn't even notice how long this video was! I loved everything you said about that comment. It made me very angry, but more in a dig my heels in way. I can't imagine how you felt after all the organising you did to make this wonderful thing happen. I am angrier now knowing how it affected you! I just think you are an amazing person!
I actively search out unboxings and swatchings because I WANT to know how a creative material looks and performs. I find them extremely helpful when making a decision to purchase and often watch as many perspectives as I can to make and informed decision. I also love the joy that comes along with these videos, it is often a mood lifter too😀. As a YT Creator myself, I will never understand why people leave non-constructive negative comments on TH-cam videos, you can just click away at anytime and watch another video that is more your liking, I will still love you 💜. A lot of us are on here to build a community, share creative finds and processes, and connect with other like-minded people - if our content does not resonate with you why take MORE time out of your precious day to bring us down 💜.
Thanks so much for your kind words, Jannah!
Thank you for the video. I'm grateful that you take the time to make these.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much, Ray!
Your #8penquestions is what got me to try recording videos again. I love your videos even if I do not comment on them. When new pens come out, I often look to see unboxing to decide if I want to save for one of them or not. The only pens I don’t need to see an unboxing video for are TWSBI pens. They are by far my favorite brand. Keep doing what you are doing.
I haven't been able to bring myself to record videos for a couple of years.. I will watch yours though, I would like to do them again but something stops me...I am glad you found the confidence/insporation to do it again!
This video was SO GOOD. I need to rewatch and take notes when I have the chance to sit down and really digest this information. As always, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us!
Now I'm curious what parts you enjoyed most.
I really love your content and I’m sorry somebody was so negative and ugly. I think that’s their problem! And as far as Mr. Brown, yeah he’s very controversial and I think he enjoys that. He likes poking and evoking emotions. So what’s his deal anyways please don’t stop what you’re doing. I love unboxing. I love seeing your new pens and ink And all the things. I love your chatty content. Like you said don’t let these people live rent free in your head. There are way too many of us that enjoy what you do. By the way, Mr. Brown is an influencer because people literally sent him free pens to review. What is that?
Tress is a stand alone. It's a good test drive to see if you're into that style. Almost everything else is thousands of pages long.
I think it isn't for me then. Thanks!
Anytime you share your feelings with the masses, you open yourself up to people sharing their feelings, even if they feel shallow. I've learned that when these perceptively rude comments or interactions get to me, it's just the manifestation of a larger issue that is really bothering me. I don't think that its they are necessarily living rent free in your head, but that maybe these thoughts, fears, etc are already in my head - the comments just become the vehicle for the negativity. I wholeheartedly agree that you shouldn't base what you do on your channel on what other people want/think. You said in an earlier video you make videos about the things that you do. I think that's a really great thing. Spaces like these are like visual/interactive journals. Unless you do what you want to do, it's going to end up a miserable experience. People are entitled to their opinions, but I am entitled not to care about theirs :)
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. This might be true. It just hit me at the right moment and completely rattled me. But luckily I'm feeling much better now (this was filmed two weeks ago now and shared with my Ko-Fi members first).
Kaweco Sport clips fit onto the Kakuno caps.
Thank you!
Hugs! Love you Simone!
I'd love to hear more about that Lamy gold nib - Safari is my favourite pen and I've been thinking I should just get a gold nib for it as my first gold nib pen instead of buying another pen.
The short summary is: in the future all new pens need to exceed this nib in order to be able to be added to my collection. I love them. I got all the sizes ... I talked about two of them in this video here: th-cam.com/video/xldaX2xi2I8/w-d-xo.html - start at 25:00 I'm sharing a writing sample of the medium nib there.
@@seemownay Thank you so much, I'll go watch that right away!
@@seemownay I'm currently watching that, and boy, now I just have the dilemma of EF or F... I have found the regular steel F quite broad to my liking, so I'd be inclined to buy an EF, but then again maybe the F would feel the best... Does the EF feel scratchy at all?
No, the EF does not feel scratchy, in fact the F I purchased feels a little finer and like it has misaligned tines and thus is a little scratchy.
Love how you think out loud...and you have some truly beautiful pens!!! How do we join your Discord?

Some folks have sad lives and find comfort in bringing down others. Those of us who watch on a consistent basis are interested in what you cover. People who don't understand should go some place else!!
Thank you so much, Pamela!
who ever left that not so nice comment was probably in their own pain bein a prior physician of 16 years I can say that sometimes people act out when their not feeling well and it probably had nothing to do with you or maybe they had a poor pen experiance or everything went wrong that day with them and sometimes you need to delete the comment and move on cause I dont know many people that go back to see how their old comments are doing I surely dont...and maybe that person just wasnt our people sometimes I get really mean hateful comments well not so much sense I figured out how to block certain words but I use to get really nasty mean comments and I was quite upset by them I have stopped making youtube videos many times in my youtube career and sometimes a pivit is good but stay on the path avoid the crazy cyclist but hit the gardrail and get back on the path
1. Jerk commenters are the first amongst many reasons that making youtube videos is quite taxing. Luckily us pen folks have relatively few. But it only takes one to ruin your day.
2. Dissenting opinion: thanks for explaining why you like the Monoc nib. I come at it at a different angle: someone came up with a new nib that costs way more than traditional nibs, but does nothing better or new. It does LOOK different, but I've never bought a pen for the way the nib looks, as it is such a small part of the pen's overall look. I am interested in every different-behaving nib, so as soon as it has a special behavior, and at a less extravagant price, I'll look at buying one. And I am glad you are happy with yours.
3. Does #2 above feel like an attack? Because it isn't meant to be one, just my non-judgmental opinion.
Ok. I personally find it really difficult to have "good" conversations on youtube. If I (or any youtuber) is sharing something they are excited about, then what does a dissenting opinion do for me? And also for the commenter? Ok - we don't agree in this case on what is to love about the nib. But the only thing it does to me is that I now know you don't like the nib. So now there is a little dung thrown at my precious nib. So no, your #2 does not feel like an attack, but it also doesn't add any value to my nib. I hope you don't feel attacked with my comment because I always appreciate you!
@@seemownay I wasn't speaking just to you, but also to everyone viewing the video. I think both of us have valid points to make, so all viewers now have two different points of view to consider. But as this came cross as dung-slinging, clearly I need to reign it way in. I apologize.
Hopefully I'll get a chance to try one some day.
I haven't thought about the comments section of a video as a resource for other viewers, but looking at it from that angle I can see where you are coming from. Thank you for sharing that perspective!
Hey @seemownay - would love to watch the unboxing video, but the link leads to the book "tainted cup". Would love if you've added the link sometime later
Sorry, I just fixed it. Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/s3Wqa_VCFfs/w-d-xo.html
For what it’s worth I no longer watch SBRE Brown videos. The last one I watched was the one where he yelled at everyone for 20 minutes about the dark lilac controversy. He seems like a pompous jerk and it doesn’t seem like he likes this community or even likes making videos. I don’t know why he does. I really enjoy your videos and I wish we were friends in real life. I love that you encourage participation in the community and I love your chatty videos and listening to your thoughts and opinions. It makes me feel like I’m listening to a friend. As the kids say, keep doing you. I’m here for it. ❤
Thank you so much for your kind words! Definitely needed to hear this!
One of the best science fiction novels I recently read is Project Hail Mary, by Andy Weir. But warning -- it takes new and unexpected directions multiple times.
I have heard about this book before. Isn't Andy Weir the one who wrote The Martian? I think I was close to putting it on my list twice and then not because I'm not sure I would like it. But I can always try, right?
@@seemownay Yes. He wrote the Martian.
I don’t understand people who write mean things in comments sections on the internet. You don’t like something? Move on quietly-a shitty complaint literally does nothing productive or informative, and now, congrats, you’ll see more content like what you just claimed to hate. ….???? The internet is such a strange place sometimes. 😅 I say wish the haters better therapy sessions in future and move on. Your hard work is appreciated by many.
I used to comment when something wasn't "for me" but I've stopped even doing that. The other person is happy they don't need to know that I wouldn't want it. Now the only thing I need to watch out for is "didn't ask for advice but I'm telling you anyway" comments. I'm always here for you even if you don't want me.
I liken your experience to being criticized by a colleague. I would be bothered too if a colleague, someone in the same industry, or even a client, made an unhelpful comment about my work product. At the end of the day, it’s your work product and their comment did not add value. If they don’t agree, if they think they can add to it, then they should contribute to the positive. It would be helpful if they offer what would be a helpful addition. Be specific and respectful. Don’t dismiss another person’s hard work. When I’ve had a similar experience, I remind myself that I’m on the right track and that the un constructive person is trying to resolve some personal issue that has nothing to do with me.
I’m sorry you experienced that discomfort. Also, I don’t get mad at myself for getting mad. It’s good that I’m not callous and that i bristle when someone is unkind.
Thanks so much, I need to remind myself of that last sentence. It's good to feel something, this makes me human.
@@seemownay you are welcome. It’s my honor to share from experience as you so generously do with your viewers.
hmmmm i wonder if the whole hate towards ""those so called penfluencers" is to do with people feeling ? kind of morally superior? ah its a little hard to explain but i do see a difference between people who just find joy in their collections and aesthetics and their experiences, and then people who want things to be mmm Just Functional ? i dont know if i'm expressing myself well sorry ;;
but also that might be why it hits so hard for you, because they're criticising you just for feeling joy, and it hurts when someone places themselves as enjoying something in a morally superior way to you?
This is a great thought - this person definitely felt superior and it help to talk about it and get it out. Thank you for sharing!
Tress & the Emerald Sea is Brandon Sanderson's attempt at being funny. He's much better in his more serious work. If you ever get curious, Mistborn, Warbreaker, or even the Stormlight Archive, are all very creative entries in the fantasy genre and showcase his work much better. I also found Tress insufferable, but I like a lot of his other work. Tress is also a standalone, it's just one of 4 "Secret Projects" he released last year.
Also is your discord open? I would love to join.
Thank you so much for the recommendations! I had never heard of Brandon Sanderson before, so this is helpful. Also here is an invite to the server: discord.gg/B77sPKjT
