      Retro can't be beaten sometimes, pure fun was put into these games, not the cold cash cows most games have become today.

    Capcom might have had the best run on Dreamcast. Sega's first party efforts were brilliant but Cacpom was right there with it. For me what would put Capcom over the top is my favorite Dreamcast game Resident Evil: Code Veronica.

      Yup. May only have been on the market about 2 years but it was an awesome 2 years. Reminded me of the Genesis glory days in terms of the quality games that were put out on a very consistent basis.

    The dreamcast is a system that I have bought over and over due to me burning it out from playing with my friends. My favorite fighting games that we played were:
    1. Rival Schools 2: Project Justice
    2. Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New age of heroes
    3. Dead or Alive 2
    4. SoulCalibur
    5. Capcom vs snk 2
    These videos have reminded me I need to invest in a new dreamcast lol.

    Man the Capcom Sega marriage on the Dreamcast was the best thing ever for this fanboy of both companies. I only wish Shinobi and Devil may cry were released on the Dreamcast.

    • @user-tz4yj2bz8w

    • @kefkahkefkah

      Why? i mean why would you those were released on the dreamcast, when they were developed for the ps2. Nes fan boys wish that link to the past was released for the nes instead? that would be a whole diffrent game.
      Idk why fanboys care so much about that but not to enjoy the game themself.
      I wish Gta5 was released for psx because i love that console, T_T

      @@kefkahkefkah Because unlike your examples the Dreamcast and the PlayStation 2 were contemporaries with similar hardware capabilities. The OP even named very early PlayStation 2 titles that overlapped with the Dreamcast's late lifespan. They could have been released in near-identical form across both platforms just like Rez, Space Channel 5: Part 2, Puyo Puyo Fever... even Kidou Senshi Gundam: Renpou vs. Zeon & DX from this very video.
      You're sitting here making fun of the OP, but what they said is nothing like thinking Starfox should have been on NES or Final Fantasy XV should have been on the Saturn or whatever. I agree that at this point it's all just spilled milk and nothing to stay upset over, but these games would have been near-identical on the Dreamcast, and it was only market conditions that kept it from happening.

    • @eddytowers
      @eddytowers 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      OriginalName90 one word: Naomi

    • @OriginalName90
      @OriginalName90 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eddytowers For the Gundam game, sure, but El Dorado Gate wasn't a Naomi conversion and that series was seeing releases on Dreamcast after Devil May Cry was released for PlayStation 2. As for Sega games, high-profile releases like Rez, Space Channel 5: Part 2, and Sakura Taisen 4 weren't Naomi conversions either.
      I'm not saying it's unbelievable they didn't make it to the Dreamcast, I'm just saying that thinking it would have been nice if they had like the OP was saying isn't nearly as ridiculous as that one response made it out to be. No crazier than Capcom putting Street Fighter Zero 3, Dungeons & Dragons Collection, and Final Fight Revenge out on Saturn way after the Dreamcast had been released.

    Oh, man! Project Justice was one of my absolute favourites on the Dreamcast. Probably my favourite 3D fighter ever, now that I think about it (if Powerstone 2 is more of an...arena fighter?).
    Speaking of which...it's super under-appreciated! I've always wanted to see it get more acknowledgement, and I think the only Capcom crossover fighter that had any characters from Rival Schools or Project Justice was Capcom vs. SNK 2!

    Thank you SO MUCH for this wonderful retrospective on the amazing Capcom library for the DC.
    What a time it was to be a gamer during the DC era. It cemented a legacy in a mere two years that the competition could only hope to aside to in double the time.

    Great video, but it made me sad to remember when I found out Capcom vs Snk 2 wasn't coming to the Dreamcast in the US and at the time I don't think the PS2 version was a lock. I want to say I found out around same time I learned Shenmue 2 wasn't coming here as well. I got the Euro copy of Shenmue 2 for DC, ended up begrudgingly getting CVS 2 for PS2, it still hurts ........🥺

    Mobile Gundam: Federation vs Zeon DX got a slightly improved US release on PS2. The only real "upgrade" is slightly (and I mean slightly) improved graphics on some stages over the original PS2 and Dreamcast JP release.
    I had no idea the DC version got PS2 crossplay. That's just awesome!
    It also has a "campaign" mode on the Western PS2 release that I totally forgot about, although it doesn't really add much.

    • @alritedave
      @alritedave 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @arbereshe The USA PS2 version? If you mean that then yeah, it plays and runs fine. However, some of the new Western voice samples are bloody awful lol. I prefer it on the Dreamcast tbh.

    • @newtypepunk9967
      @newtypepunk9967 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @arbereshe far from it, I have a ton of Gundam games and yes there are some awful ones, but theirs some real gems for fans with most of the games. The Gundam vs series is probably one the best long running Gundam series of games. If anything only the PS4 Gundam game was a bit of miss for me, all the rest are awesome, I'd also recommend Gundam vs Zeta Gundam for the PS2, it has everything Fed vs Zeon had and so much more.

    • @christopherpope961
      @christopherpope961 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The ps2 version also got allowed you to play as some mobile armors and had a campaign mode that was missing from the DC version, so it's a fair upgrade in my opinion. That said, the dreamcast version is still awesome.

    • @alritedave
      @alritedave 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alritedave Yeah it's not much, but it's a nice extra. Plus, the DC version's graphics look much nicer than the ps2's if you have VGA, so unless somebody's dead-set on piloting a big zam or something then I'd say the DC version is probably better.

    I totally agree with you. Capcom released a lot of games on the Dreamcast in such a short time. They were all hits in their own rights, too. Some bigger than others, and no real misses in the library. Some of those arcade ports were better on the Dreamcast than their original CPS2/ CPS3 hardware. The Dreamcast was perfect for arcade style gaming, 2D or 3D. Kind of like a 6th generation version of the PCE when compared to the PS2, Xbox and GameCube.
    I have a suggestion for Midway on the Dreamcast. They actually released a lot of arcade styled games too for the system.

    Thanks for reminding me of Bounty Hunter Sarah's existence that has been consigned to the deepest memory trove of my childhood. I didn't even own that game nor did I ever mean to do so, I just skimmed an ad/article on the title in one of the several Dreamcast magazines still thriving back in the day (well, at least in Japan). And even as an impressionable tween I smirked at how absolutely cheesy it was. But after 20 years it looks strangely endearing.

    It really blows my mind how Capcom kept so many stellar releases coming one after another despite the Dreamcast's tragically short life.

    I can't emphasize how much I love Project Justice. I got it day one with saved up money after school and have fond memories of staying up late in the summertime and beyond playing it by myself and with friends. I have little hope that Capcom would make a new Rival Schools game but I do wish they ported it officially to Steam to play it again. Maybe someday since SF6 is selling great since they put out that Capcom Fighting Collection with arcade classics...... I mostly just miss playing it.

    Hah I sorta called it in a previous video, and here it is; Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo really plays great on the DC and turbo 0 really makes it feel silky smooth. Too bad it has the same unfair AI that most ports of this game do in Arcade mode (if you go through some hoops to set 2P as the CPU using a secret menu and play versus mode instead, you get a fair difficulty though).
    Also worth noting is that from what I can tell, the Saturn port of Super Turbo doesn't have a cheating AI; it plays similarly to the AI in Super Street Fighter.

    Federation vs Zeon along with Gundam 0079: Rise from the Ashes really scratched my itch for good mech games on the Dreamcast. Despite its short life span, it really was a system that had something for all tastes. The Dreamcast was also a great system for people who wanted to dip their toes into imports, without breaking the bank. Thanks to whoever came up with the boot disc, all you needed to try out a $80+S&H game was a blank CD-R and some patience.

    When Capcom Vs SNK finally hit our shore's it practically lived in our Dreamcast. So awesome to see those iconic characters from so many great games going head to head. Love that building site stage, how it gradually falls to pieces as the rounds transpire! Still makes me laugh seeing the foreman go mad as the beams come tumbling down! Haha

    Gun/cannon spike is a great game, I think that Psikyo were devleoping their own style on the saturn/ps1 era and during the dreamcast era they finally had their own unique style for shoot em ups. Pity they went out of buisness, they're one of my favourite developers and I've got a lot of great memories with their games, especially saturn ones.
    4 player for gigawing 2 is amazing, it's the best part of the game to me. It's a lot easier but still very fun. Only shoot em up I know that's for 2+ players.

The music feels kind of cheesy at first, but after a while you really feel like you're in the One Year War! I got it on PS2 too so I could play the story mode. It's cheap on PS2, but I do think it's smoother and more colorful on the Dreamcast. 2019 marked Gundam's 40th anniversary making it a great time to play it.

    I got the same Virtual On vibe from Heavy Metal, specifically when the one character starts using that laser sword. It was a second or two before you said the same thing, so it's a strong resemblance, it seems.
    I don't recall Capcom's Gundam game, and it looks like the kind of game I'd like. I had the other Gundam game that was more of a Mechwarrior style mech sim. Cannon Spike might have also interested me at the time, but I don't recall hearing or seeing much about it.
    I'm surprised to hear how much praise you have for the backgrounds in Capcom vs. SNK 2. Not that I assumed we'd have the same opinion. And I don't have any problem with your take -- it's just opinions. It's just that we're on the opposite ends of the spectrum here. I really disliked Capcom's 3D stages in general. I always found they incorporated too much motion and many gimmicks that took away from the action. That desert rally stage is one of my least favorite backgrounds in any fighting game. But that's just me, and my opinion is no more valid than yours on that. We also agree on many other things. I definitely prefer 2D backgrounds in general.
    Regardless, this was an interesting series and I learned about some games that slipped by me. And excellent work as usual.

    Because of this video I’m going to play Super Puzzle 🧩 Fighter X again because I have the Japanese version and I was unaware of their different modes especially the Y mode. I thought they were all the same.

    Man I played Project Justice for the first time about 2 weeks ago and it instantly cracked my top 10. I just love the characters and presentation, and it's backed up with really excellent mechanics. Now if only I weren't a total FG scrub lol

    Cannon Spike = $100+ on aftermarket glad I have my original copy for the Dreamcast.

    Another great video, Capcom really put out all the stops for the Dreamcast! I have the Japanese version of Project Justice, good fighter! I finally managed to get the Japanese version of Cannon Spike, good game though I would love an updated version with twin stick controls! I know the Dreamcast port of Super Street Fighter 2X s considered the best but the price is hard to swallow but maybe eventually! Really like Gigawing 2 and getting a 1CC will take some practice but it's not that difficult and really like the music! Is Code: Veronica X fully in english! I should get Capcom VS SNK Pro! I should give the super puzzle fighter series a try! Heavy Metal Geomatrix looks fun! I need to get Capcom VS SNK 2! Mobile Suit Gundam looks like fun!

      It was Capcom that did all the work there. Sega just allowed them to do it.

    Capcom vs snk 2 not coming to north America was a real a shame. i never understood why they had skip the ntsc version for the dc when it was going to be released on ps2 without the matching services anyway. Like MVSC 2, it would have helped to sell a little bit more dreamcast in my opinion.
    Ho, and I must admit that this ufc game was for real waaaay ahead of its time, a real ufc simulator ahead of its time with amazing graphic and fighting system, for real it was amazing!
