Hey could do a video on Dreamcast games that haven't been ported or been remastered on other platforms? I'm thinking about getting a Dreamcast in future but I'd like to know what games are still exclusive to the platform as those are what I seek first if I'm buying a retro console I've never owned before.
Sega Lord X, I agree with you 100% when you stated that the "fighting genre" (my favorite genre btw) could easily dominate an entire top 10 list of DC games. With that said, do you think you can do a top 10 favorite DC FIGHTING games?? That would be so awesome.
Don't know if this is considered underrated anymore but the first Virtua Tennis is still to this day one of the best tennis games for gameplay. The graphics were amazing for '99 too! Perfect blend of arcade easiness and semi real physics.
Really love your list, buddy. Grandia 2 was the first RPG I have ever beaten and it quickly became one of my all time favorite games. I used to own most of these. I miss having my Dreamcast. Also, would love to see you review the Analogue Mega SG soon. Very curious to hear your thoughts.
@Chandan Bhatt I Was Impressed by the Sound, To This Day I Think That Game has Some of the Best Audio I’ve Ever Heard, I Think the DC has this Ambient Sound Chip that Only Works if You Hook it Up To The Right Kind of TV and “Throws” Sound at You.
Something that makes the Dreamcast outshine the others is the vibrant colours that the system displays. No other console from that era could produce them like the Dreamcast.
Not to mention was quite a compact system in comparison to a PS 1 or PS 2 or XBOX. It's quite light weight and durable. Weighs a tad more than a Game Cube but has a smaller height.
@@naclynerickii And luckily it had a good button layout for an era which was still high for fighting games though fps would really start to shine and dominate the console market the next generation with all the modern warfares and blaco ops always getting top sales figures.
Naclyn Erick II I don’t live in a mud hut so something being slightly bigger or smaller makes no difference - and I love the Dreamcast, I have four of them. But the reason I have four of them is because 3 of them broke. They’re not durable systems in the least - at least not the GD-Rom. The PS1 broke a lot, the original fat PS2 also broke a lot, the PS2 slim was durable and the XBOX and GameCube have been by far the most durable of the bunch.
When I saw Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast the first time, my head exploded. Unbeliveable how amazing the graphics where, especially the animations. Shen Mue topped as well again everything I have seen so far. A shame Sega could not succeed with this superb hardware.
K. M. I would just sit and watch the katas from Soul Caliber. They were so well done and they had them for all of the characters. Everything about the game was top notch. I couldn’t believe that was on a home system at the time. I completely get why it was rated best on Dreamcast.
It’s so good. I’m sad though... as much as I cherish it, I started a fresh playthrough with my wife so that she could experience it, she could not handle the grind and got too bored of the turn-based battles. We did our best, doing our own (sometimes silly) takes on the voice acting, taking turns playing, and I even would grind and level up after she went to bed so that when we played together we could breeze through fights... but sadly she never got invested in the characters or had the sense of wonder for the imaginative locations and scale of conflict. I’ve saved my childhood consoles with the hopes to share them with the next generation, but I fear the gameplay won’t hold up, especially RPGs seem to be fading because they’re too long form.
my top 5: 5. Jet Grind Radio 4. Power Stone 3. Crazy Taxi 2. Soul Caliber 1. Skies of Arcadia dreamcast was the first system I was all-in on on launch - was totally worth it. played it waaaaay more than the ps2 i eventually picked up (honorable mention: street fighter alpha 3)
It’s amazing. I bought the Dreamcast at launch and there’s games I never even heard of, lol. But I got mixed up with other systems and games also. N64, PlayStation and Xbox. There’s always been so many games, companies and competition!
Maybe the most "underrated" console ever! Ahead of its time too! Another great video from SLX, plz make more dc related videos :D Greetings from Greece!
By far my favorite console of all time! I remember the first time I saw NFL 2K, which was being demoed at a Software Etc. in a shopping mall. I was blown away by the graphics and presentation. I honestly thought it was an actual broadcast at the time, lol. As for the games, my top ten would probably contain games like MvC2, Project Justice, and Cannon Spike. I loved the arcade experiences the system was so capable of reproducing at home. Such a great console! And a wonderful video, Sega Lord X! Great work as usual.
My favorire games really had to be the awesome shooters on the Dreamcast.. -Last Hope -Chaos Field -Zero Gunner 2 -Border Down -Under Defeat -Ikaruga -Dux -Trizeal -Mars Matrix -Bangai-O Oh yeah and I absolutely loved Tokyo Extreme Racer 2..best in the series in my opinion..
Growing up on Sega, I miss Sega making consoles. I wonder how it would have been if Sega would of had more faith in the Dreamcast and gave it a chance to last.
I’m thinking of playing through Skies of Arcadia again now thanks to you. I gotta get through Grandia 2 again 1st. I also believe Soul Calibur was and is ahead of its time, I can’t believe how good it still looks on a CRT tv
Awesome video! Skies of Arcadia is one of my two favorite RPG's ever (the other being Chrono Trigger). Every two years or so i play this game from start to finish, indeed because of the amazing story and very good written characters. Even graphically it still is amazing! Sega should really bring this to modern consoles, maybe only changing the random encounters with invisible enemies (make them visible or something like that). The only game i missed in this top ten is Crazy Taxi, i still consider this game as a contender for BEST-GAME-EVER ! And on my list i would've listed Rez, simply because that game rocked! The Dreamcast is, just like all Sega's consoles, absolutely fantastic! Some people have one console as their favorite, but i could never choose between the holy trinity from Sega. So i have the Megadrive, Saturn and Dreamcast on my number one spot in my console top 10!
LOVED Skies, only just now getting a chance to play Chrono Trigger for the first time (amazing music score, I’ve already listened through the soundtrack on a road trip). Crazy Taxi is a game I forgot I actually owned until I looked at my shelf just now. A very faithful arcade game with super smooth framerate, but for me the fun ran out after “a few quarters worth” of playtime. You can say I have bad taste, but I had more fun with couch multiplayer games like Rippin Riders, ReVolt, and San Francisco Rush 2047 - the latter of which had great arcade racing but also awesome stunt modes and battle modes! Some of my friends had Mario Kart, Golden Eye, and Super Smash Bros, but at my house we’d gang up and witness CRAAAAZY stunts with absurd high scores in Rush, Virtua Tennis Feuds, and played the crap out of my demo disc with PowerStone (because I wasn’t allowed to BUY fighting games, lol!). Championship Surfer was just a bad game, lol.
@@SegaLordX. I remember playing Grandia 2 on the Dreamcast. I also remember buying it for the PS2 and hating it. Something about the PS2 version just felt off about it.
I quite liked the Anime cutscenes, and I was amazed at how much voice acting there was! I wondered during my playthrough if Ryudo would prefer the priestess or the demon, which would “actually” end up being the evil or heroic one, and if we would have to choose which to save. I was satisfied with the ending.
One of my fondest memories of the dreamcast, was How amazingly crisp grandia 2 and Marvel vs capcom 2 looked when I got the VGA adapter for my dreamcast, and hooked it up to a VGA monitor. That was when I first got a peek into the future of what games were going to look like from then on.
@@SegaLordX. A lot of the games still stand up amazingly well even to this day. Two of the standouts that I had that I can remember most vividly are dead or alive 2, and soul caliber!
Great video, I just played my Dreamcast with a friend here on Friday! The games still hold up great today. It came out when I was high school and we really had a blast with it for a too-short couple of years
mmm top 10 is very difficult! but...: 1) Shenmue 1 & 2 2) Dead or Alive 2,Soul Calibur,Rival Shool 2 3) Metropolis Street Racer,F335 Challenge,Virtua Tennis 2,NBA 2K2,NHL 2k2,NFL2K2 4)Capcom vs SNK 2,Marvel vs Capcom 2,Street Fighter 3 Third Gen,Street Fighter Alpha 3,King of Fighters 98-99 (special edition for Dreamcast),Garou Mark of the Wolf 5) Resident Evil Code Veronica 6) Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 7) Skies of Arcadia,Grandia 2 8) Crazy Taxi 1 & 2 9) Jet Set Radio 10) Power Stone 1 & 2 much good game: Outriggers,Virtua Striker 2000,Zombie Revenge,Sega Rally 2,Virtua Fighter 3,The Spawn,Cannon Spike,Ikaruga,Trikstyle,HeadHunter,4 Wheel Thunder and much games conversion to pc and others console games.....
Of course a Dreamcast Top-10 list would feature 28 games 😂 I don’t disagree with any of your choices! However, I never played Virtua Tennis 2... played the first game for YEARS though! Great party game!
@@evshrug ok ^^ the best method to play it now and on android via emulators: Redream or Retroarch (slycast) .I use an original Dreamcast or a Smartphone (Xiaomi Redmi note 8). PC emulators work but are not optimized like Android ones, some games have several video artifacts.
Love this Channel. I'm also a 80s-90's guy and Also loved my Sega systems. I love all my systems but Sega has a special place in my heart for Arcade memories.
Dynamite Deka 2, Zombie Revenge, Power Stone, and Ikaruga. I just have to mention these games, because this video reminded me of why I love Sega's final bit of gaming hardware.
I just bought a Dreamcast like 2 weeks ago and I LOVE IT. I got MVC2 as my first game and it's gotten me hooked. I also got Frogger 2 Swampy's Revenge since since I used to have it on the PS1 when I was younger. Then I just got Spiderman 2000, I'm excited to get more games and the actual Dreamcast versions of the Sonic Adventure games since ai only have the Gamecube versions
That was one of the first games I didn’t beat. There was an interesting world but almost no plot or story like the Genesis games. I felt like it was made for multiplayer; picking a melee character in my first play through made the bosses really difficult, so I started over with a gun/ranger character who had a much easier time... but in a world of plasma swords and techno-magic, it was really boring to pew pew pew - waaaaait - pew pew pew.
I love my Dreamcast. The game I played the most on it was Shenmue. The first game I owned on it was Sonic Adventure. My favorite fighting game on there is Power Stone. I also love the arcade light gun action that House Of The Dead 2 had. So many games I've enjoyed on the Dreamcast, it is definitely my favorite Sega console.
Awesome video as always! I love the Dreamcast. I remember getting it at launch along with Soul Calibur and my jaw absolutely dropped when seeing that intro sequence and playing that game. I couldn't believe that little white box was producing that on my TV and was blown away to find out the intro sequence was done by the in game engine. Likewise House of the dead 2 blew me away as well. The game was absolutely gorgeous and a complete blast in multiplayer. Was great having the rumble packs in the light guns for pseudo recoil action. One of my most awesome memories was playing Outtrigger with the official broadband adapter, keyboard and mouse. Definitely the future of console gaming at the time. Edit: and VOOT with twinsticks is amazing (never got the DC ones but have the Saturn ones)
I get a new computer and what do I do? I play Dreamcast games on Steam because newer games are not that great. In my 40s and grew up with Atari 2600,NES,Genesis. Got into PC gaming and lost hope for console gaming until Dreamcast came out. I didn't care much for PS2,Game Cube,or XBOX. Still can't believe that Dreamcast was the one that didn't last. Brought us some of the most original, fun, underrated, and awesome collection of games of any console.
Great selection, I personally would have included Powerstone. I still believe sega should have fought harder because ps2 first 2 years software were pretty abismal compared to the dreamcast imo.
Sega was a company in financial turmoil by 2001. When they left the hardware business, it was because they quite literally couldn't afford it anymore. They were close to complete collapse.
Sega Lord X • I wonder what could have saved them? As quirky as some of the games were, many were just solid quality instant classics. I’ve heard some say the DC and Sega failed because it was possible to download games and burn discs, but I don’t think that was the broader issue. There was that one creep in my school who bragged about “uncapping” his internet speeds and pirating movies; he probably knew how to pirate games too (aaand he had no friends). However, most everyone else didn’t have broadband or even CD burners yet. I think there was just too much emotion about the 32-Bit generation that already had Sega set up for failure. I liked my Genesis and the Sega arcade games were among other great ones, but only one kid at my school got a Saturn (different kid, rich, though he was also kind of a superiority jerk in his own way) and plenty of people never even knew Sega made a 32-bit system, while Nintendo and Sony built up massively loyal fan bases with lots of hope for the future. The first two years of PS2 might’ve been abysmal, but people were always thinking the next Final Fantasy VII was right around the corner (plus, for parents, the PS2 made a great DVD player).
Also Skies of Arcadia's world is the single coolest one of any RPG I've seen. Something about the sky and sense of adventure just marry each other beautifully in this
Good to hear. Keep your head up, man. The power of positivity and staying focused on the things that make you happy, will help you get through whatever problems you're having.
First off, I really like your videos. The info and the games you select to showcase are usually top notch. This video is no different. My Dreamcast experience was less than stellar. I bought one not too long after launch and really had nothing but trouble from it. The memory card died on me within the first week, not the battery (guy at store made me buy their replacement cells) and still lost hours of progress several times. A new card was the same for me. I ended up returning it within 3 weeks and stuck to the Playstation line. I was sorely disappointed with the system as a whole. Years later, I found a NIB system for stupid cheap and bought it. Strangely enough, the memory card still had data on it. What's really weird is that a few months ago, I pulled it out of the closet and the system still functions (CD drive appeared to work as well), then checked the memory card after a couple of years of being in a box with the rest of the system and the data is still there. I just wish the first one I bought had that kind of reliability.
Great list and rankings! These are some of my Dreamcast favorites too. It is good to see Boarder Down on a top 10 list, as it is one of the most enjoyable and visually stunning shmups of the sixth generation.
Ita been so wonderful to see the Dreamcast continuing to get new releases every year. Would love to see Sega follow the trend and begin releasing games themselves again. Seems to be a strong market for DC still.
Got Skies Of Arcadia when it received the Legends Gamecube re-release. Thought it was worth trying but didn’t expect much from an older game being brought over to the ‘cube. Wow, was I wrong. The sense of adventure and exploration blew me away. Somewhere along the line I lost my copy but then dropped $170 to reacquire it so I could relive the game during the pandemic. Holds up perfectly, and was an utter joy to experience again after all this time. An unforgettable classic.
I've been on a big dreamcast kick this year as a personal project for the 20th anniversary so this is exactly the video I've been looking for on the channel! Hoping to play through as many classics on the system as I can, the list is always growing
@@SegaLordX It was only recently that we reached the point where Sega has officially been out of the hardware business longer than it was in it. I remember seeing that depressing milestone in a Sega bits news post.
The Dreamcast is possibly the hardest system for me to put together a top 10 for, mostly because moreso than any other console, my mood affects my choices, making it more fluid, as it has such distinct games. I don't know about order, but on average it probably contains: Blue Stinger Giga Wing Langrisser Millennium Capcom vs SNK Power Stone Guilty Gear X Border Down Bangai-O Crazy Taxi Tokyo Extreme Racer On another day, NFL 2K, Mars Matrix, Cosmic Smash, or Trigger Heart Excelica (or even something else) might jump in. It's just such a fun, memorable system to play. Even the "B-sides" like Armada, Industrial Spy, or Treasure Strike offer up a great time. I mean, I spent many a night with friends playing Fur Fighters, Toy Commander, and Chef's Luv Shack. Just too much awesome.
Great video! I'm torn between Skies of Arcadia and Soul Calibur myself for the top spot. I've never even heard of Border Down, will check it out, thanks!
My personal top 10 would be: Sonic Adventure Shenmue Resident Evil Code Veronica Blue Stinger (this one is widely ignored, its so underrated) Crazy Taxi Crazy Taxi 2 Jet Set Radio Future Ready 2 Rumble Boxing Metropolis Street Racer Tokyo Xtreme Racer
@@SlyBeast Yeah, it was one of those sleeper hits that never got much recognition because it wasn't a big name franchise so people slept on it, but it was definitely one of the best Resident Evil clones I ever played. It even came out on Dreamcast's launch day (9.9.99) so how it never got any recognition is beyond me.
I had a lot of fun with my Sega Dreamcast even the demos where fun to play my favorite games were Hydro Thunder toy Commander blue stinger Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2
The Dreamcast is a legendary console. Its library is so full of classics and hidden gems that I'm sure you struggled a lot to pick up just 10 games, SLX. Well Done.
My friend did as well. He was a staunch Sony convert after the first playstation and had "zero plans" to get a Dreamcast. When I showed him Soul Calibur at launch it got his attention. Then Code Veronica running on a VGA monitor sealed the deal for him.
Great video! Your list brings back so many good memories!! I really loved the Dreamcast back in the day! I would have to think hard about my top ten so many great games!!
The game that sold me on a DC was Sega Bass Fishing. For me, the DC had so many Arcade style games that worked smoothly it was basically a Neo Geo in that way.
Good callout on Garou. I love that game Also Power Stone 2 is hands down the most fun party game I have ever played. It's like Mario Party with all the item and stage randomness but then with the added skill of actually fighting. Also the smaller bonus stages always brought insane chaos. 1 was like a tiny waiting room and the other was simply 3 steel beams that you balance on while you fought. Fun times
Giant Gram 2000 - A wrestling game with fun chunky arcade gameplay along with the inclusion of excellent commentary, yet seemingly forever forgotten :(
Both Shenmue games were outstanding at the time, they were different than any other ordinary game ever released. "Get up! I allow to die like a warrior." ( goosebumps)
I can remember walking past an EB games and stopping to watch Crazy taxi and i couldn't believe my eyes. Then when i bought one i got test drive la mans - nhl 2k1 and Sword of the berserk guts rage. I was wowed. Skies of arcadia. Best jrp ever. Love the dreamcast
My number 1 game on the DC was easily Phantasy Star Online. I lived on that game for 2 years straight. I clocked over 3000 hours on it I was that hooked. At that time online play was like a whole new world to me and PSO was just so much fun to play. Made a lot of great friends on that game. I still have my character saves on my VMU's from almost 20 years ago. :)
Good list. Skies of Arcadia is also my favorite Dreamcast game, although I prefer to play the Gamecube version, as the battles are much quicker and has some extra content as well. I am torn whether this or Final Fantasy 3 (6) is my favorite RPG of all time. On a side note, the Dreamcast is the only Sega console I ever owned, and I do not regret my day 1 purchase of the system. Not a big Sega fan, but I really enjoy your channel.
You're one of few that give the proper love to sports games. I hate how they're ignored by the mainstream. The reason my friend bought a Dreamcast in early 2000 was because of the 2K line of games.
I absolutely love Skies of Arcadia! The thing I mostly love about it are the world and ship battles. Also I love how you discover the world in the game with a lot of similarities to the age of exploration but in a fantasy world, you think you've reached the edge of the world but there's much more beyond the horizon! Other favorites on the Dreamcast are Shenmue I & II, Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Crazy Taxi 1 & 2, Chu Chu Rocket, Dead or Alive 2, Tech Romancer, Power Stone, Project Justice, Fighting Vipers 2, Virtua Fighter 3TB and off course Jet Set Radio! It's honestly just baffling how many great games the Dreamcast got in it's short lifespan.
1. Phantasy Star Online 2. Soul Calibur 3. Capcom vs SNK 2 4. Marvel vs Capcom 2 5. Tony Hawk 2 6. Skies of Arcadia 7. San Francisco Rush 2049 8. NHL 2K 9. Power Stone 10. Gauntlet Legends
I remember the mystery surrounding the Dreamcast and how cool it was when it came out I believe I only played ready 2 rumble boxing on it at a friends but I thought it was cool as hell, and then suddenly you just didn’t see them anymore in fact I wouldn’t hear anything about them again until I saw a documentary on how it failed. But the mystery and allure of it for ‘91 born kid like me won’t be forgotten and even today I wish I would have gotten to play my survival horror faves and it and stuff. Cool ass console
Mine off the top of the head would be 1. Shenmue 1 & 2 (class them as one) 2. Soul Calibur 3. Sega Rally 2 4. Crazy Taxi. 5. Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 6. Capcom vs SNK 2 7. Jet Set Radio 8. Daytona USA 2001 9. Le Mans 24hr 10. Sonic Adventure Honorable mentions Fur Fighters, Headhunter, Garou MOTW, UEFA Dream Soccer, Rayman 2, Metropolis Street Racer, House Of The Dead 2, Rez & Dead Or Alive 2
Me and my friends played soul calibur and the house of the dead 2 so many times, but this games makes still so much fun. I still love carrier and blue stinger.
Played through SoA on a 60" FullHD Plasma TV with the Dreamcast connected to it via VGA to HDMI adapter and DolbyProLogic2 5.1 surround sound. Same with Shenmue 1+2. Awesome games!
Oh....the disgustingly overlooked Confidential Mission... For me the Dreamcast was ALL about my solidified love of 3D fighters... I remember, at least in my area, the demand for Dreamcasts was so high at launch that the only way Toys R’ Us would let you buy one was as a bundle with 3 games... Mine were the prerequisite Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur, and of course Virtua Fighter 3TB... As a result of my early ownership of it, as well as my already built in love for the series, I would say that despite the dearth of fantastic games for the console throughout it’s short life, and my countless overnight sessions of playing Quake 3 Arena, I would still have to say the most play time I put into any Dreamcast game was indeed VF3TB... Between the amazing Virtua Fighter, the without equal Soul Calibur, the breathtaking Dead or Alive 2, unique Powerstone, as well as it’s IMO inferior yet still incredibly fun sequel, and hell it even introduced me to Tekken 3, which I picked a copy of up the day it’s BLEEMCAST counterpart hit GameStop shelves, as I had briefly played the 2nd one at a friend’s house secretly loving it despite my absolute hatred of the PS. Out of all the Dreamcast I’ve played, spanning all genres, there was no other games like it’s amazing 3D fighters, at least for me. I mean of course Code Veronica and Shenmue were absolute revelations... I still remember as a Resident Evil 2 loving gamer (thanks to it’s heaven sent N64 port), the mesmerizing experience it was to boot up RE:CV and just being blown away by the experience set in front of me, DiCaprio be damned. I was absolutely enthralled by the story presented in that game, and perhaps that wouldn’t be so if I had booted up that game for the first time now, but that could just be all the negativity I’ve had to hear over the years about the “so over the top that it’s practically a comedy” performances. But for me I was just absolutely enthralled as a young teenager, finding it having the perfect balance of difficulty, it’s all 3D environments, and absolutely stunning setting, with it’s perfectly claustrophobic island in the middle of nowhere with it’s out of place long ago built, almost Victorian style mansion that was being absolutely overrun and destroyed along with the rest of the island that they did such a great job of making feel was well lived and operated before the disaster struck. Damn I love that game, so overlooked in terms of the rest of the main games in that series. I mean freaking remaking Resident Evil 3? That game was so clearly a cash grab just capitalizing on the immense popularity of the series and sales potential at the time of its original release, they literally threw that game together as fast as possible using RE2’s engine and many of its assets. Code Veronica felt like the actual next game in the series following 2, and I mean hell, it was. That’s why it was developed alongside RE3, they must have just been leery of the Dreamcast’s viability in the marketplace, and I suppose ultimately they were right, and as a result one of the hands down best games of the series was forever shoved into the background, and is still to this day probably the least played of the main line games, despite it’s “X” release on PS2 and GameCube. Don’t get me wrong, it’s lack of a number definitely hurt it in that sense as well, I bet you by now more people have even played Zero, which is really a questionable entry IMO... But that’s it for my rant, if you haven’t played Code Veronica, do yourself a huge favor and treat yourself, if that HD remaster that was download only is still an option then go that route for convenience, if not the GameCube version will suffice as X really does provide some cool extra content worth experiencing. And I mean yeah it’s on the PS2 as well but the visual fidelity of the PS2 pales in comparison to that of the GameCube, XBox, and even the Dreamcast delivers a cleaner picture through its VGA ability, besides, fuck the PS2 and it’s shit built original model consoles.
Great channel! Bro MvsC2 at # 10? That was the very first he I bought for the DC when I got mine back in 2001 and no power stone 2? 1. MvsC2 2. Skies of Arcadia 3. Street Fighter Alpha 3 4. Power Stone 2 5. Soul Caliber 6. Resident Evil: code Veronica 7. Sonic Adventure 8. Confidential Mission 9. Dead or Alive 2 10. Shenume
The Dreamcast must be my favorite console from Sega; I own two white and a black Sports edition, all boxed. Power Stone 1 and 2, Skies of Acadia, and Sonic 1 and 2 are my top games. The first time I hooked up the Nomi VGA box my retinas were fried upon exposure to Soul Calibur’s visuals. I’d love to a see a Dreamcast-mini, maybe? Awesome video, Lord Sega.
I don't know why, but your summary of Shenmue's plot really got a good laugh out of me xD I absolutely love the Dreamcast, even though my collection for the system still has some growing to do. Due to my limited time spent with the console, I don't have enough to fill out a list, but currently Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Shenmue are definitely favorites, and I have my eyes on adding Grandia 2 and Skies of Arcadia to my collection
There was so many great games that a top 10 is not enought lol I loved so many games that weren't mentioned, Ecco The Dolphin, Virtua On, Virtua Fighter 3, Fighting Vipers, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Virtua Tennis, 18 wheller, Phantasy Star Online, Sega Bass fisher, Tokyo Extreme Racer and on and on and on Best Console Ever!!!!!!
Skies of Arcadia is my favorite JRPG and it is still the only one that really captured my interest since I wasn't really big on turn based RPGs, but this one definitely is a must own. Thankfully it got rereleased on Gamecube and I snatched it up on Day 1.
What was also special with Skies of Arcadia was that the gimmick style battles (Ship battles) were even more fun than the traditional battles, as usually gimmick style type of events are usually boring in games :)
As usual, more information in the description.
Man, playing the Dreamcast in 1999-2001 was something truly special to me and that feeling has yet to come back with future gaming consoles.
Giga Force truly a special and unique time to be a gamer. Dreamcast launch was unlike any other launch
I am currently playing DC and it’s still very impressive.
I cannot agree more with you still to this day i cant explain why it felt like that..
Totally agree, I wish that era of games was still alive today
You said it perfectly. To me it was one of a kind. Came at the perfect time in my life.
Something that makes the Dreamcast outshine the others is the vibrant colours that the system displays. No other console from that era could produce them like the Dreamcast.

They could, but didn't. GC and XB definitely at the least.
@@rodmunch69 hope there is an SD slot solution for the dreamcast - I've seen these sd slot replacements for the saturn and maybe one for the Xbox.
The Dreamcast was shortly lived, but its older brother, the Naomi board, was the king of the arcades for almost 10 years.
Saturn in Japan lived longer. People were making visual novels up the wazzoo for that system. I think they said 12 years?
the best game of sega is daytona usa
Probably because the arcades were also dying and it wasn't economically anymore to release that many new arcades.
What! I can't believe you left out _____! _________ is so underrated, and ________ which never came over from Japan is also easily top 10 if not top 5
Haha, there were so many great games on the dreamcast
You forgot to say you're going to UN-SUB
That's why Mortal Kombat on Sega had blood and yours didn't 😁
Yeah, I expected a number of these posts. I'd rather them just tell me why they liked whatever games they wanted to see.
Have a nice rest of your day!
I'm currently playing Skies of Arcadia for the very first time. It's so full of charm that I'm hooked.
I envy you. That adventure was truly special the first time through.
I played throught mosrt of the Cube version myself, can't remember if I finished it. Good game.
Enjoy !
chaospoet I need to check that out then.
I’ve saved my childhood consoles with the hopes to share them with the next generation, but I fear the gameplay won’t hold up, especially RPGs seem to be fading because they’re too long form.
my top 5:
5. Jet Grind Radio
4. Power Stone
3. Crazy Taxi
2. Soul Caliber
1. Skies of Arcadia
dreamcast was the first system I was all-in on on launch - was totally worth it. played it waaaaay more than the ps2 i eventually picked up
(honorable mention: street fighter alpha 3)
It’s amazing. I bought the Dreamcast at launch and there’s games I never even heard of, lol. But I got mixed up with other systems and games also. N64, PlayStation and Xbox. There’s always been so many games, companies and competition!
Soul Calibre on the DC is 20 years old and still stunning to play...this looks fantastic via the VGA output cable.
Soul Calibre ? French spotted ?
Yes it still looks really good for sure. I loved watching all the katas with the incredible animations.
Maybe the most "underrated" console ever! Ahead of its time too! Another great video from SLX, plz make more dc related videos :D Greetings from Greece!
Definitely more DC vids coming.
Χαχα μόλις Αγόρασα ένα Dreamcast
-Last Hope
-Chaos Field
-Zero Gunner 2
-Border Down
-Under Defeat
-Ikaruga
-Dux
-Trizeal
-Mars Matrix
-Bangai-O
Oh yeah and I absolutely loved Tokyo Extreme Racer 2..best in the series in my opinion..
Skies of Arcadia as your favorite Dreamcast game ? What a man of taste !!! YES 🍵
Growing up on Sega, I miss Sega making consoles. I wonder how it would have been if Sega would of had more faith in the Dreamcast and gave it a chance to last.
You ahoulda just did a top 20 we wouldnt have minded at all
I’m thinking of playing through Skies of Arcadia again now thanks to you.
Getting bored of ps4 time to get back into dreamcast 👍great vid
Grandia 2 on the DC got me into rpgs. I love that game.
Yeah, it's a good one. I really loved the characters.
Sega's Dreamcast was a short lived explosion of greatness!!
Hell man, I still am impressed with a DC on a VGA monitor. A freaking 1998 console at that...
@@SegaLordX. A lot of the games still stand up amazingly well even to this day. Two of the standouts that I had that I can remember most vividly are dead or alive 2, and soul caliber!
The dreamcast looks amazing now still going through a vga to hdmi adapter up scaler!
Great video, I just played my Dreamcast with a friend here on Friday! The games still hold up great today. It came out when I was high school and we really had a blast with it for a too-short couple of years
This video was actually due out earlier this week, but I kept playing the games instead of editing the videos. Says a lot about how good they are.
mmm top 10 is very difficult! but...:
1) Shenmue 1 & 2
2) Dead or Alive 2,Soul Calibur,Rival Shool 2
3) Metropolis Street Racer,F335 Challenge,Virtua Tennis 2,NBA 2K2,NHL 2k2,NFL2K2
4)Capcom vs SNK 2,Marvel vs Capcom 2,Street Fighter 3 Third Gen,Street Fighter Alpha 3,King of Fighters 98-99 (special edition for Dreamcast),Garou Mark of the Wolf
5) Resident Evil Code Veronica
6) Sonic Adventure 1 & 2
7) Skies of Arcadia,Grandia 2
8) Crazy Taxi 1 & 2
9) Jet Set Radio
10) Power Stone 1 & 2
much good game: Outriggers,Virtua Striker 2000,Zombie Revenge,Sega Rally 2,Virtua Fighter 3,The Spawn,Cannon Spike,Ikaruga,Trikstyle,HeadHunter,4 Wheel Thunder and much games conversion to pc and others console games.....
Of course a Dreamcast Top-10 list would feature 28 games 😂
I don’t disagree with any of your choices! However, I never played Virtua Tennis 2... played the first game for YEARS though! Great party game!
@@evshrug ok ^^
the best method to play it now and on android via emulators: Redream or Retroarch (slycast) .I use an original Dreamcast or a Smartphone (Xiaomi Redmi note 8). PC emulators work but are not optimized like Android ones, some games have several video artifacts.
Just seeing Skies of Arcadia has the feels rushing back, absolutely adored that game.
Love this Channel. I'm also a 80s-90's guy and Also loved my Sega systems. I love all my systems but Sega has a special place in my heart for Arcade memories.
Can you imagine if they remake Lunar series for Dreamcast...so much potential machine back in the day...
Give them Dragon Diamonds for it. :-)
It's awesome to see Border Down on one of these lists. It would certainly be on mine. Excellent list for a system with a lifetimes worth of charms.
Great vid mate! Makes me a bit sorry I missed Dreamcast. You should definitely do part 2 of this with the other 10!
Thank you for making these videos of all things Sega so many good memories.
Dynamite Deka 2, Zombie Revenge, Power Stone, and Ikaruga. I just have to mention these games, because this video reminded me of why I love Sega's final bit of gaming hardware.
Tokyo highway challenge 2 and Metropolis street racer are definitely in my top 5.
Seriously SEGA....Remaster SKIES OF ARCADIA! Man I completely forgot about that Stellar RPG!! Great video man I miss those DC DAYS!
Not a remaster. but there was 'Skies of Arcadia Lebend' for the Cube...basically the same game with some extras, IIRC.
Oh man no ♥ for Phantasy Star Online Vers. 2...? :(
That was one of the first games I didn’t beat.
I was in love with this system. I played Tony Hawks Pro Skater for 6 hours a day, everyday. It was fucking radical man.
It's hard not to love that DC library. So many good games in the span of like 2 years. It was epic.
The first two years of PS2 might’ve been abysmal, but people were always thinking the next Final Fantasy VII was right around the corner (plus, for parents, the PS2 made a great DVD player).
ps2s had DVD compatibility, and yes, that was a huge plus.
yeah powerstone missing too
I actually had a lot more fun playing the Sega Dreamcast than I did with the PlayStation 2, and I still think so to this very day.
The Dreamcast is the best "failure" ever, I really love it, I wish to see a Dreamcast Mini Edition... pleeeease SEGA!
Also Skies of Arcadia's world is the single coolest one of any RPG I've seen. Something about the sky and sense of adventure just marry each other beautifully in this
I love the selection of shmups so its no surprise my list would include mars matrix, giga wing 2, gunbird 2 and zero gunner 2
Hey sega lord x i have been going thru hard times and depressions lately but ur voice and videos are helping me get thru the dark cloud im in thanks
Good to hear. Keep your head up, man. The power of positivity and staying focused on the things that make you happy, will help you get through whatever problems you're having.
I am so happy that you put Skies of Arcadia 1st on this list.
Its my fav JRPJ of all time.
I cannot describe how happy the intro to your videos makes me. Seeeeeeeegaaaaaaa 😁
Skies of Arcadia number 1! Agree 💯
You nailed all the great ones! Good job!
My top 5 would be...
5. Sega Bass Fishing
4. Phantasy Star Online
3. NFL 2K
2. Samba de Amigo
1. Crazy Taxi
Great list and rankings! These are some of my Dreamcast favorites too. It is good to see Boarder Down on a top 10 list, as it is one of the most enjoyable and visually stunning shmups of the sixth generation.
Border Down shows up in shoot'em up vids often, but rarely in "best of" vids. It really deserves more praise.
Ita been so wonderful to see the Dreamcast continuing to get new releases every year. Would love to see Sega follow the trend and begin releasing games themselves again. Seems to be a strong market for DC still.
Thank you for introducing me to Border Down. I can't believe I've never heard of it before.
Having marvel vs capcom at home to play was incredible for me. They should have called it the capcom home arcade with all these amazing ports
I've been on a big dreamcast kick this year as a personal project for the 20th anniversary so this is exactly the video I've been looking for on the channel! Hoping to play through as many classics on the system as I can, the list is always growing
My 20th was last year, but it's still hard to believe. 20 years since Sega's last console...
I don't know about order, but on average it probably contains:
Blue Stinger
Giga Wing
Langrisser Millennium
Capcom vs SNK
Power Stone
Guilty Gear X
Border Down
Bangai-O
Crazy Taxi
Tokyo Extreme Racer
On another day, NFL 2K, Mars Matrix, Cosmic Smash, or Trigger Heart Excelica (or even something else) might jump in.
Skies of Arcadia easily for me
My personal top 10 would be:
Sonic Adventure
Shenmue
Resident Evil Code Veronica
Blue Stinger (this one is widely ignored, its so underrated)
Crazy Taxi
Crazy Taxi 2
Jet Set Radio Future
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing
Metropolis Street Racer
Tokyo Xtreme Racer
Blue Stinger! Preach on!
Blue stinger I totally forgot about that gem what a game and yes so underrated
I had a lot of fun with my Sega Dreamcast even the demos where fun to play my favorite games were Hydro Thunder toy Commander blue stinger Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2
I played the absolute crap out of my “Generator” and Official Dreamcast Magazine demo discs!
The Dreamcast is a legendary console. Its library is so full of classics and hidden gems that I'm sure you struggled a lot to pick up just 10 games, SLX. Well Done.
It truly was difficult. This really was almost a top 25 because of it.
Confidential Mission with a light gun is soooo sooo gooooood, kids used to come far and wide to play that on my DC
You put Skies of Arcadia on the list
Up until the top 2 it was as if you were reading from my own Dreamcast collection! Great list! Border Down is an immensely underrated classic!
Starting my collection now. Glad I found your channel.
I bought a Dreamcast for code Veronica. I bought the black sega sports model. I miss those days.
I had every system back in the day. And only last year did i get a dreamcast. Now my ps4 and xbox are just gathering dust. Such a great system
Always am a fan of record of lodoss war and still own it. And PSO, which I still have for GC and on my PC
Good callout on Garou. I love that game
Also Power Stone 2 is hands down the most fun party game I have ever played.
Great video, took me back I really loved the Dreamcast. Was one of my favourite consoles that I have owned.
Phantasy star online was memorable but skies was great too good choice.
Sports games were a big part of my Sega love. To ignore their quality is a disservice to the era.
Perfect! My bf and I got a Dreamcast recently and I wanted to know what's really the best to play. This helps a lot coming from you
Good to hear. I think the games in this video are definitely worth looking into.
Just bought a Dreamcast, totally going to buy some of these games!
1. Phantasy Star Online
2. Soul Calibur
3. Capcom vs SNK 2
4. Marvel vs Capcom 2
5. Tony Hawk 2
6. Skies of Arcadia
7. San Francisco Rush 2049
8. NHL 2K
9. Power Stone
10. Gauntlet Legends
NHL 2K was a great game, II agree.
Midway and Capcom were a force to be reckoned on the DC. Rush 2049 looked beautiful on DC.
Mine off the top of the head would be
1. Shenmue 1 & 2 (class them as one)
2. Soul Calibur
3. Sega Rally 2
4. Crazy Taxi.
5. Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2
6. Capcom vs SNK 2
7. Jet Set Radio
8. Daytona USA 2001
9. Le Mans 24hr
10. Sonic Adventure
Honorable mentions
Fur Fighters, Headhunter, Garou MOTW, UEFA Dream Soccer, Rayman 2, Metropolis Street Racer, House Of The Dead 2, Rez & Dead Or Alive 2
Great list! Especially Skies of Arcadia. That's on of my most beloved games I've ever played. And I'm a gamer since Intellivision days!
You, my friend, have great taste. Especially Soul Reaver and Grandia 2 are incredible.
Wow, Mark of the Wolves getting the first honorable mention, respect👍
1. MvsC2
2. Skies of Arcadia
3. Street Fighter Alpha 3
4. Power Stone 2
5. Soul Caliber
6. Resident Evil: code Veronica
7. Sonic Adventure
8. Confidential Mission
9. Dead or Alive 2
10. Shenume
Now that's a good list.
I don't know why, but your summary of Shenmue's plot really got a good laugh out of me xD
I absolutely love the Dreamcast, even though my collection for the system still has some growing to do. Due to my limited time spent with the console, I don't have enough to fill out a list, but currently Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Shenmue are definitely favorites, and I have my eyes on adding Grandia 2 and Skies of Arcadia to my collection
My top 5 In no order
Crazy taxi
Soul calibre
Virtua tennis
Powestone 2
Shenmue
Oh God, I loved most of this list!!! Such amazing lineup.
There was so many great games that a top 10 is not enought lol
I loved so many games that weren't mentioned, Ecco The Dolphin, Virtua On, Virtua Fighter 3, Fighting Vipers, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Virtua Tennis, 18 wheller, Phantasy Star Online, Sega Bass fisher, Tokyo Extreme Racer and on and on and on
Best Console Ever!!!!!!
Skies of Arcadia is my favorite JRPG and it is still the only one that really captured my interest since I wasn't really big on turn based RPGs, but this one definitely is a must own. Thankfully it got rereleased on Gamecube and I snatched it up on Day 1.
Dragon riders one of the great game i been playing in this platform, and Sonic ofcourse
What was also special with Skies of Arcadia was that the gimmick style battles (Ship battles) were even more fun than the traditional battles, as usually gimmick style type of events are usually boring in games :)
